  1. wasn't jamie a bit of a 'child' star when he started his first cooking show? i remember him jaunting off to the market on a moped, gathering a host of unwashed friends to join in the proceeding, etc. i just watched this mornings episode and he has grown up. still hasn't taken a bath or changed his clothes, though. i think the show will be a hit here in the usa. he has a simple honesty combined with a little adult attention deficency, which comes across as likeable. he is still the homegrown light of the sun in england. as he should be!
  2. i phobe out in public places (grocery carts, the terlit handle, etc.) but, i also see something that is very allowed in most all restaurants (and look for this to diminish in the future)and that is wedding rings. actually, any sort of jewelry, including earings are sometimes left on ALL of the time, while bathing, sleeping and changing a diaper before going to work. when i see paula deen mashing potatoes with her hands and that gargantuan self bought quartz ring set full of butter and yesterdays bread crumbs i have to fight back a little bit of throw up. dozens have eaten her food though and lived to tell about it.
  3. i am just reading, and haven't seen said 'show'. but, i have to agree. people cook, and people have hair and skin. wearing 'gloves' when cooking is mainstream in restaurants now, most places, but that isn't the key. handwashing is. if the glove is dirty, you might be safer with a washed naked hand. no one lives in a sterile environment. and no one eats food that has not passed by some mouth breather at some point. if you would sit down and enjoy a meal with any native culture other than your own, these guys can't be so bad. they licked your spoon, so what, come on. at some point your mother picked your bottle up off the floor, wiped it off on her sleeve and stuck it back into your screaming mouth. ta dah! a 'cook' friend of mine once said 'if you find a hair in the food, don't say anything, everybody will want one'.
  4. i just caught the last few minutes of the Cleveland episode. and i wanted so bad to see it all! (waiting on a re-run, already!) ruhlmans 'House' looks just like he described it in the book. (if you haven't read his book 'House'...get it! he is a wonderful writer. he gets into some historical elements that are quite surprizing. very good read!) and to see michael and tony sitting on that porch in the ending segment had to be a true toast to Cleveland.
  5. Yes. I enjoyed it, too. Typical AB, ha! (for those who missed the production, it is on 'now'. and no doubt will be re-played for some time, maybe till the next time. FN does re-peats of re-peats.
  6. oddly enough she is in a new movie to be released in july...NO RESERVATIONS...apparently, they couldn't find an original title for the film. http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/noreservations/trailer1/
  7. what is the deal on this movie? couldn't they find another name for it? http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/noreservations/trailer1/
  8. really! thanks for the link. this looked to be a very interesting operation. some nice folks, indeed.
  9. It's Presidents Day and Tone is on the TC all day long starting at 9am. (Watch episodes back to back and get caught up if you haven't already seen them.)
  10. I'm anxious to see the new season of shows. It will be a great test of Tony and the production staff not to strain the premise and try topping some of last year's great episodes, but to just let the show be itself. (kind of like a tv example of the sophmore jinx) SB *** knocking on wood *** ← tc is showing some of the new episodes right now. and i don't think anyone is going to be disapointed. they are better than ever.
  11. Dammit, I wish I'd seen this before now. Of course, I've been doing well to stay upright at all the past few days (due to illness, not alcohol, alas!) but I'd have managed somehow. ← i just flipped on tc and they are airing the indonesia episode tonight. (now). keep an eye open for them, they come on earlier than the regular series.
  12. Am watching the Beruit episode right now. This is huge! Very well done! Both entertaining and very tense. I hope everyone is seeing this one!
  13. It looks like the 21st You'll get a double feature that night with the Beruit episode.Thanks. Looks like a dandy night for me. ← they are doing a twofer on the 21st? that tex/mex espiode is great! i will tell everyone i know to watch both of them. (and ya'll do the same!)
  14. What Bourdain is showing is respect for the culture and hosts he's visiting. The guest of honor is offered these "delicacies", and it would be the highest insult to the host to turn it down. That's like receiving a gift and telling the giver, what a piece of crap, dropping it on the floor, and asking who gave him that awful haircut. In Saudi Arabia back in the 70s, we visited a Bedouin tent and they offered my father and me the testicles of a goat. Had to do it. Easy for Dad, he'll eat anything and follow up with a story about the depression if you make a face. So, beating heart of a cobra, seal eyeballs, various organs, beverages fermented with spit, or even wolf nipple chips (actually that's from Life Of Brian)... Props to Bourdain for sacking up, bracing himself, and respecting the gestures everywhere he goes. Salad is not food. Salad is what food eats. ← i'm thinking ab seeks out the different. happening onto being invited to a meal of beating cobra hearts would be very rare. he is respectful, indeed! but, i think he wants out of the bun type of foods. and looks for them. i like your dad's philosophy. and i love old depression stories. they lived on starvation two meals out of the day because they couldn't afford three meals.
  15. Well looks like it is August 21st after ad in tonight's rerun of Puerto Rico episode..."Ah the pig a noble and magical creature"... After reading posts on Barnes and Noble, Travel Channel and here by Tony, it should be a very heartfelt and enlightening show. .....And hope he is planting those size 12s in tropical sand at this very moment and taking some well deserved and restorative time off! Patience can be just as much a virtue as curiosity at times...... ← It will be interesting to see how Beruit was ... just a few weeks ago. And I think that NR has the exclusive. Bourdain should have some interesting insight on his experience.
