  1. AAG=An American Grill. Sorry for the confusion.
  2. Here's Tony:
  3. More where that came from including a good picture of Tony (RockADS21) which I'll post if he gives his permission.
  4. I still don't know why this works today and didn't work yesterday but here goes. Lunch started here Then moved on to the ceviche: Then to a half dozen flower oysters like these which I had the next night: Then we had the steak sandwich you can see in the other AAG post. I don't know what was for desert because I had to go back to work, argh! Here's a picture of Tommy doing his best "Charlie" from Charlie's Angel's impersonation:
  5. Here, I hope.
  6. Rachel, I will try ofoto this evening. Thanks for the idea. I did email a picture to Tommy, maybe he'll have better luck than I have.
  7. I recently had dinner at Makeda in New Brunswick. They serve Ethiopian food and I was very tentative about it before going. However, the food was very good, good enough that I'd gladly go back, and the sound level in room was great for people wanting to talk without yelling at one another.
  8. Now if I could just get the pictures to post. I have tried everything short of setting up my own home page and paying for web hosting. I think that part of the problem is that I took the pictures with a regular camera and had the photos burned on a cd. Egullet doesn't seem to like the image format, neither does image station. Snapfish, which I have used to upload pictures in the past, did take these pictures but egullet won't accept the img link. Anyone with any suggestions please pm me. I have gone to a lot of effort here but these pictures are definately worth it. Worst case senario I will post a link to my snapfish account and people can follow that to see the pictures.
  9. There's a mix called Sting Ray from a company in Maryland that I liked when I could find it. It was on the expensive side, about $7 for a quart. Lots of horseradish and pretty spicy. I'd cut it down sometimes with regular tomato juice for people who didn't want it quite so hot. As for homemade I like some hot sauce, some horseradish, some fresh ground pepper and a good squeeze of lemon juice. Add that celery stalk and you've got a meal in a glass.
  10. Pictures to be posted on Monday night. I have to concur that the chevice was amazing and I think it was a mix of shrimp and ahai (sp?) tuna. All I know is that it was a flavor explotion in the mouth, first lime juice then the fish with the cilantro bring up the rear. 5 Stars. Only outdone by the "flower" oysters with the mix at the table minionette and a steak sandwich that would make a vegetarian weep. Hats off to you Lou: you are the man.
  11. Damn I'm hungry after reading that menu! See you all tomorrow.
  12. Thanks for the review. This is the same place that used to be 40 Main, right? Sounds like I won't be going either.
  13. Bake one please and I'll make sure it doesn't go to waste
  14. Not to be a wet blanket but I'm reading through the menu and it just occured to me to mention that I'm allergic to tree nuts (not peanuts) and to poppy seeds. I'm sure other people coming have certain food allergies also. If anyone is making anything with the above ingredients which is not immediately obvious (I know not to eat pecan pie-for instance) could they please label their food accordingly? Fortunately, I can eat all the pig I can hold.
  15. Glad to see the food ban was lifted. Now Eagle fans can choke on hoagies instead of cheering when Giant players are carted off the field. Seriously, I know this is a food bb but the cheering when Ike Hilliard was injured last year was among the most classless acts I have witnessed in sports.
  16. BTW Lou, this in no way changes my plans to come on Aug. 9th for dinner.
  17. August 8, 1PM. I'm there. Wanted, unwanted, with or without you.
  18. Forget Newark, take a cab into Elizabeth. Most of Newark Airport is actually in Elizabeth. Go to the Madrid for traditional Spanish food or Manolo's for Spanish food with an updated flavor. If you're low on oil go to Tommy's for an Italian Sausage sandwich or Jerry's next door for a hot dog (Jerry's made it on to Hot Dog John's top ten). Afterwards take a cab to the Jersey Gardens outlet mall and kill some time wandering around there. None of this is more than 10 minutes from the airport by car, the mall is maybe 5 minutes. Enjoy and travel safely. Madrid Restaurant: 645 New Point Rd. (908)289-6767 Manolo Restaurant: 91 Elizabeth Ave. (908)353-7674 Tommy's Italian Sausage: 900 2nd Ave. (908)351-9831 Jersey Gardens Mall: 651 Kaplowski Rd (908)354-5900
  19. Even hot dogs get the blues! BTW, Andy didn't UltraVoxx have a song called "Vienna" as in Vienna Beef hot dogs made famous in the Chicago style dog?
  20. I can bring a sweet potato casserole, a la Thanksgiving minus the marshmellow topping. I think that would go well with a pig. Will also bring some garbage bags if Tommy brings the paper goods. Who is bringing the ice?
  21. Thanks for the input. I have to agree with KimWB about Frog and the Peach. We just couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. I'm leaning towards the Turish place but I'd appreciate any more suggestions.
  22. As I posted in the thread about Makeda we are going out on Sunday night with someone who thinks of herself as an adventurous eater. Any thoughts about where to go in New Brunswick or that immediate area? Thanks.
  23. Phaelon56, thanks. Great description and recipe. I'm going out on Sunday night with a woman who likes to be "adventurous" (her term). Any other suggestions in the New Brunswick area? I offered up the 7 Hills of Istanbul. The fact that there's live music on the weekend is a big turnoff for me at Makeda.
  24. Congrats to Lou, well deserved and overdue.
  25. I'm reviving this thread to ask two questions: first, what exactly is Ethiopian food? Second, has anyone been to this restaurant on a weekend when they have music? How loud is the music and how hard is it to have a conversation while the music is being played?
