  1. Hankering after a midnight sandwich, I will never again fry off the half dozen egg yokes found in the fridge after a boozy night out to discover that I'd been sautéing 6 peach halves.
  2. Wow!!!! That's quite a sandwich!!! ← .......... and very healthy Just to clarify, it ain't a sandwich, however in some countries it probably could be. I suppose if I include the balsamic glaze and sea salt on the tomatoes, I eat that every day as well.
  3. Baby corn. The true abomination on mankind.
  4. Dolcelette or Roquefort
  5. I'll believe you if you believe me! Interesting how everyone but Mike has chosen a liquid. It says to me that in this day and age with so much variety available it is not necessary to eat the same thing everyday. Of course, in many asian cultures rice would be the first choice I'll bet. ← Turning this thing on it's head, what food do you consume on a daily basis and you know you shouldn't but can't stop yourself ?
  6. EVERY day? ← Yep, oh and I forgot, a litre of Smirnoff
  7. Over-ripe bananas, tomatoes and multi seeded bread.
  8. ← Checked with my good lady and she confirms that I was not under the influence and it was indeed calves brains with pasta. Could be wrong about the name though
  9. Believe me I've tried making it about 5 times with varying degrees of success OK I found it an interesting experience but not rewarding. I know a guy who is in the middle of making it with calvados !!
  10. Why would you want to make it at all ? Far too much work for a dodgy end product no matter how skilled you are. Just buy some Can I give a positive tip, don't invite any Spaniards round and put cherry syrup in their sangria.
  11. Had a pasta dish in Malta a while back, 'timpani' I think. Delicious......until I discovered the meat was calves brains. Got over it and had more. Nice texture, I recall.
  12. Tried this a long time ago but it was nothing to do with cooking I put a warm chocolate/cream mixture in a reusable aerosol. Worked OK considering and I would imagine that it would give reasonable coverage if used within the limits of the mixture solidifying.
  13. We have a similar problem in the UK where the demand for strawberries is greater than what the domestic growers can produce in a relatively short season. The result is that the supermarkets import large pale hard fruit mainly from Spain which are not really fit for human consumption. Strangely enough I go to Spain quite a lot and have never really seen fruit of such low quality on sale there so it's down to a huge supermarket conspiracy I'm afraid who buy fruit for it's durability not taste.

    Fish and Seafood

For some reason it only seems to be perishable in the States though. ← Yeah, that's what I'm thinking Absolutely no reason whatsoever. By the way Adam, thanks for the previous images, especially the Smokies. We used to eat these hot straight out the smoke house. I now get them posted to me by the same smoker, phone your order and it's posted together with an invoice to return at your leisure !!!! Old school service.

I still don't understand. It's a bit like getting a plate of food presented to you and the server saying "enjoy your meal, oh and by the way, we've discarded the best bits" Sorry if I'm appearing obtuse - Contamination of what exactly ?

Question - Why are scallop corals generally discarded in the US ? It's a bit like ordering T-Bone with half of it missing !! Yours, bewildered.
  18. Deep Fried Whole Turkey then having the temerity to design a fryer big enough to accommodate one.
  19. How then do you even know you were there? Or is this one of those dodgy 'recovered' memories? Perhaps the partners are going round hypnotising people into believing they went to Waitrose and it was like Aladdin's cave!As for Stepford wives thing, what my sister most likes about the Waitrose that's her nearest food shop is that they have a self-scanning facility for registered users which hardly anybody else seems to use, so she never has to wait at the check out. And they are so incredibly classy they even disdain the obvious slogan, 'No waiting at Waitrose'. ← Sorry, that should have read 'sublime'. Grammer/Spellcheck crash and burn scenario I'm afraid.
  20. You will love Waitrose when it opens. I recently visited one in Lichfield and it was truely a subliminal experience. Top quality goods, knowledgable staff who were mostly over the age of 25 and could string together a reasonable sentence. The layout of the store was spacious and pristine white, OK, it's a bit 'Stepford Wives' but hey is that a bad thing ? Enjoy.
  21. In the ever increasing world of contemporary dining, are there any 'old school' Balti houses left in the Pakistani/India culinary domain ? Especially in the famous/infamous ? 'Balti Triangle' in Birmingham. Planning a visit soon and would like to sample the same delights of previous visits.
