My (embarrassing) mistake; I really am a complete novice on wine, so go easy on me. After talking with Berry bros the general feeling is that the price per case will most likely be 3000 sterling upwards.. Anyway, these are my choices Ch Belair Ch Valandraud Lafleur Petrus (if i can find any at good price v.popular) Magdelaine Premium La Mondotte Bellevue Mondotte(rare and top marks) White Doisy Vedrines
Plantation 1990 Guyana old reserve is good but not great. Was I expecting too much? This is only my opinion tho; Smells decent/fragrant, initial taste is nice and smoky but the v.bitter finish ruins it-needs to be sipped on ice or diluted with a little cold water.
How to go about bulk buying? As I am in uk , is it possible to buy direct? The wine i am thinking of investing in is Chateau Magdalaine 2005; what say you?
Just tried Pyrat XO.. what an odd taste; very pungent. Did'nt realise it was spiced with orange. Don't laugh but it reminds me of smelly socks/yacht varnish!!
Just came back from Milan; They love their Rum. Rum bars everywhere with good selections. I tried a pampero rum(46% i think) one night but i don't really remember too much else..
This is exactly the kind of bottle i like. I especially like raised letters, and if i were to design my own bottle it would feature that Is the pink bottle square or round?
Yes, definately the rum market is getting interesting; Cruzan is now part of the Absolut group, so we are seeing a trend towards accessable quality rums.
I have seen some sites with a few bottles from the 18th and 19th century in ceramic and glass. Does anyone have any interesting facts or pictures on old rum bottles? Yes I am a bit of a geek to ask this question..
Ok, the one i had was probably not 10 yrs old. I tried to find it on Peter's Rum Pages just now but I did'nt realise how many distilleries there are on Guadeloupe(or it could be Martinique)
This may have been the one i had in Japan. I was in a small salaryman's bar and i saw it on the shelf. It had a light brown label. Taste was pleasant but plain, from what i remember!
I bought a bottle of Plantation Guyana 1990. Whilst good, I found it had a slightly bitter taste. Is this a Demerera rum? It did'nt state this on the bottle
Admin: Threads merged. I'm interested in why cachaça is the drink of the moment(in the uk at least), while Agricole rums languish. Is it down to the vodka drinkers looking for a different buzz? I guess cachaça is more neutral tasting so this would make sense to me. Or maybe its just down to the image of cachaça. How is 10 cane doing in the states?
Vodka drinkers are more likely to try Cachasa-based cocktails than rum. Cachasa has a better image than rum(younger/'trendy') hence the massive growth seen in bars over in the UK(vodka drinkers are likely to be style/image concious)
