As did I. Is it still at Kyoto in Florham Park?
-
Will anyone be attending the Taste of The Towns at Snuffy's in Scotch Plains on October 21. They are having samplings from over 30 restaurants mostly from Union County. I went to this event two years ago and it was pretty well done.

by the way...what is up with that sushi lunch anyway?
-
Lets see...dinner, booze and women in g-strings(refering to the bar down the road of course and not Rosie ). These are a few of my favorite things. Count me in!

I have visited both City Hall and Cub Room frequently and must say that I have been very satisfied with both. Cub Room's main dining room is extremely cozy and chef Craig Samuel offers some wonderful choices. The cafe and lounge can easily be a setting for a Sex and the City episode so if that is not what you have in mind avoid them especially on weekends. As for City Hall I think it is a must to start with some type of seafood (I personnaly prefer the raw Chrysler/Empire towers). All of the fish is well prepared and obviously very fresh. I have had several of the steaks and burgers as well as the lunch turkey burger and been impressed by all. It is possible that you can simply catch a bad cut of meat or just a bad night when dealing with steaks. As for the ambiance - I could not disagree more with the statement that City Hall isnt New York - the place has a downstairs room that's ceiling is a NYC street!!! They have done a wonderful job creating an atmosphere of New York and I believe that in both appearance and food quality this place is top notch.

Park and Orchard is also a very good choice. Top of the line wine list and very interesting dinner choices. Not much in terms of atmosphere but still a good experiance.

I was wondering about a few places mentioned in these threads that I havent yet been to as to whether they are BYO. One should always know in advance whether he should be carrying his sake around! Thanks. -Ajian, Watchung -Sono, Millburn -Nagano, Morristown -Midori, Morris Plains

I have been to Basilico and thought it was very good. Thanks for the reminder Rosie.

Any thoughts on Sinclaire's in Millburn? Zagat has it rated considerably well.

I am looking for a few suggestions in or near the West Orange area that has a good selection of seafood. It does not necessarily need to be a seafood restaurant but I do want a good amount of choices. I am making plans for a group of 10 and heading to Rascals for a show after dinner so something within 10/15 minutes of there would be ideal. I first thought of Nero's Grill in Livingston although I havent been there in some time. We will be coming from the Scotch Plains area so anything en route to W.O. will also work. Thanks.

Randi - Two suggestions for you - one from each area that you mentioned. Try out Theresa's on Elm Street in Westfield(just off North Ave.). Excellent Italian BYO - usually packed on the weekends - so dining on a weeknight should be easier. In Metuchen is absolutely my favorite NJ restaurant - Cafe Abbraci on Durham Road. I have had everything on their menu and one item is better than the next. Their appetizers are superb - particullairly the duck crepe and the mushroom strudel - try both! Cafe Abbraci is also a BYO and also usually very crowded on weekends but more manageable during the week. Have a great time!

I literally became dizzy reading through all of this after being away since Friday! I believe that we currently stand at deciding between Kyoto and Nikko as well as whether we should pre-order. I will vote for Kyoto for the simple reason that I have never been there and conversely have probably visited Nikko 10 times this year alone. I would also think that given this is lunch and time may be an issue to some, that pre-ordering(tasting) would be best.

Count me in for an October Thursday lunch - Florham Park.

I am having dinner at Nobu next week. This will be my first endeavor there after obviously hearing and reading so much about it. I love sushi and am wondering if I should stick just to it or venture into other items on the menu - If so which ones? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Poots - Actually I am an alumni of SHU. Graduated from the business school in 1994. Florham Park is relatively close to my office so perhaps we will be ordering a spicy tuna roll at the same time during lunch at some point because I do plan to visit Kyoto soon.

First choice is definately Nikko in Whippany. I also enjoy a small BYO in Metuchen called Mr Pi. Is Kyoto in Florham Park a BYO as well? I have been meaning to try it.

Tommy - if you are looking for a truly terrific cheesesteak you must visit Franklin Steakhouse in Nutley. Outstanding sandwiches made with grade A steak done just right in several varieties - no processed cheese here. My top choice is the Italian Steak Sandwich - it is topped with mozzarella and onions on a garlic soaked roll - to die for. Don't pass up the french onion soup to start here either - one of the very best I have ever had. Great selection of beers as well. Of course being from Jersey I cant let a topic of cheesesteaks go by without at least mentioning the Seaside Boardwalk but I will leave this to a North Jersey thread per your request. Enjoy.

Has anyone been to or heard anything about a small hole in the wall named Pecos Grill? It is located on North Avenue close to the border of Cranford and Westfield(not sure which town it is actually in). I am often in the neiborhood but have not ventured in as of yet. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Definately a few very good ones that will have to settle for # 11 through 15 but after some deep anylyzing here goes... 10) 28 - Montclair 9) The Grand Cafe - Morristown 8) Jeffrey's - Toms River 7) The Ebbitt Room - Cape May 6) Cafe Abbraci - Metuchen 5) Nikko - Whippany 4) Stage House Inn - Scotch Plains 3) Le Petite Chateau - Bernardsville 2) Scalini Fedeli - Chatham 1) The Ryland Inn - White House

A few friends in the City have also recommended Cite' Grill which is adjacent to Cite' Restaurant as well as Cosi Sandwich Shop. Any thoughts on either of these?
-
I have heard that JUdson is very good. However, I am looking for something a bit less up-scale.
-
I'd like to stay within a 5/10 minute walk if possible. As for cuisine...I would say American/Italian would be our first choices.
-
Steve I believe the Ryland Inn to certainly be one of the best restaurants in the entire Tri-State area. Immaginative, superbly prepared meals, with each and every detail perfected in both preparation and service. It has been about a year since I have been there but the meal that I had was one of the top 2 or 3 that I have ever experianced. I also concur with Rosie about Craig Shelton's use of the home-grown herbs - a distinguishable touch to the dishes. In lieu of a few credit cards however, considering a second mortgage may be more appropriate - but in all honesty, if anywhere is worth the price - this place is it!

Making my annual tree-viewing trip in from NJ this week and I am seeking a place to stop in. Preferably someplace not too fancy, not commercial and that serves food until late. Any suggestions?
