  1. wasn't it woo lae oak that committed the cardinal sin of making patrons pay for banchan? or am i making that up? if true, it should be closed, razed to the ground and the earth plowed with salt.

Actually, isn't the K-town branch closed for remodeling?

  2. In terms of geography, all the places mentioned have been in Venice and Santa Monica, which are between the getty and the airport. If you can avoid wanting to go back to the hotel before dinner, you'll save a lot of time and cab fare.

Have fun--and please let us know what you pick!

This raises the question of how you are getting to the Getty which is some distance from the hotel you mentioned without a rented car. Some sort of bus tour? I don't think you can practically use public transportation to get to the Getty, but maybe I'm overlooking something obvious. If not, why not rent a car given what you'll be paying for cabs, etc.?

  3. From Hollywood & Highland, it'll take you about 30 minutes just to get to the closest beach.

Yeah at 1:00 a.m.! Give yourself an hour, seriously..

Depending on the beach you are heading to, you are probably looking at more than an hour commute.

The locals can do it a half hour, but there is fore-knowledge of back roads for that scenario.

If I can just get off of that L.A. freeway

    Without getting killed or caught

Down that road in a cloud of smoke

For some land that I ain't bought bought bought

If I can just get off of that L.A. freeway

  4. I will definitely try to hit Yuca's.

It looks like my kind of place.

Haven't got a chance to eat there yet.

    Thanks,

    Curt

Carne asada tacos and tamales wrapped in banana leaves--Yuca is short for Yucatan. Hell, some folks even eat burgers there.

  5. I thought I could get Traveller's Cheques in Euro, though.  If that was the case, you would think that it would be accepted like cash, just like they are in the U.S., no?

That is my understanding, but I have not used them in many years.

Me either. The only thing I remember about traveller's checks is that you get a slightly better exchange rate on them--at least in an office of the issuing company. Is it worth running across town for the difference? No.

  6. Well it was bound to happen sooner or later, but disaster has stuck.

I woke up yesterday to find my new digicam in a pool of water on the table next to a knocked over vase. The cats were looking at me as if they never even set foot on the table. I thought it was ok at the time though since I could power the camera on and take a picture. I let it dry out all day.

When I came home, the camera would not turn on and continues to be stubborn and not play nice. It looks as if I am going to have to replace it in the next couple days.

    Ben

Far better to have had this happen at home than in the middle of your trip. BTW, on the subject of cameras, you might want to pack some extra batteries--they seem to die in the most inconvenient places. I seem to recall unsuccessfully scouring San Gimignano for a battery for a dead camera.
