What should the youth cook?

We cook once a month with our local school and have had great success with felafel and dips, apple turnovers and sausage rolls! Its only a small school but we cook a small portion for everyone at school- about 80 and cook with 6 children each time in the staff room! Other things we have done is have the childrens bring in spare produce from the garden, and we also are fortunate enough to be able to use loads of eggs from the chickens the kids keep at school too!! -
You would be amazed how many places have done this (go under and reopen next day debt free ) without anybody beeing any the wiser . Its just the small suppliers that will be able to give you the lists!!

I went to the opening party of the Granary when it was meant to be an exclusive club with gary holihead cooking- wasn't surprised to see it end up on the kitchen nightmares, but it's a shame if its gone as it really is a beautiful site. I wonder who they upset so much?

Well, we are booked in for duomo in Ragusa on Saturday lunch, we are really looking forward to it. Waiting for a reply from Locanda Don Serafino, hoping my Italian was not too bad to be understood!

We are flying out to Sicily on Friday, stayig just outside of Syracuse- has any one eat at Duomo, as we think we would like to go- if so any recommendations for what to eat., ditto Locando Don Serafino and la Madia? Also heard very mixed reports about retaurants in Syracuse itself, are any worth eating at, or should we be hopping in the car around the island? Many thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I had Dartington on my wedding list, and they didn't survive at all. In the restaurant now we have all Riedel, in about 6 different shapes, and everyone loves them. We also have the Riedel 0 series in our flat- they are the strange looking ones with no stem- great for us as we are always kicking glasses over or falling asleep and dropping them !The 0 series appear to be impervious to attempts to smash them! We also put our glasses through the machine without any ill effects!

Ducasse to open at the Dorchester
erica graham replied to a topic in United Kingdom & Ireland: Dining
Happened to me at Ducasse Paris 10 years ago!! Could only afford a half bottle of white to go with our lunch- MY GOD they were the smallest sips of wine I've ever taken stretched over 3 1/2 hours!!!! Edited to say: Forgot to say I had the Rum Baba 10 years ago- fantastic, especially as they wheeled over a trolley of vintage Rums to choose from!!!!! -
My daughter's primary school has a very good uptake on the school meal front. The price is £1.60 per day, and the months menu is sent home at the begining of each month. The kids also get fruit every day, and grow and cook their own vegetables, and keep chickens for eggs!. They also cook in groups of 8 every Friday often with my hubbie, when they are following "The Year of Food and Farming" When they cook, they cook enough for everyone in the school to try, and the kids are given no option, they have to try it! Last time I cooked with them I cooked Felafel with Yoghurt dip, other times we use whatever is available in other parents gardens. I have to say it is a small church funded primary school in the countryside, so the phrase "preaching to the converted" comes to mind. The kids in the high school are harder to convince, although we have 6 of them working with us for work experience this week, and they are very switched on to food. The queue at the take-away at lunch time in town is still big though! Menu items at the primary school range from roast dinner to curry, baked potatoes and hotpot with pleanty of green veg, kale, broccoli, spinach!!

The search system is just as bad all over the country! Just to add, the new paperwork involved in order to get the full 5 stars is amazing, and meant that we ended up with 3 stars, but without having any recommendations for improvement given to us except fill in more paperwork.
