  1. Oh no!! don't mention he who's name cannot be spoken!!!
  2. Yup, let me know if you feel like a drive out!
  3. Is it for Easter Sunday, or for the Summer Hols?
  4. No you can't catch bird flu from eating cooked chicken, you can only catch it from being in extremely close proximity to infected birds- and as the one in question was a wild swan, I think we are safe for now. We've just taken delivery of our first batch of locally reared free range guineafowl and chicken, our lady farmer is a bit anxious, but we are hoping that comman sense is going to prevail instead of hyped up news hysteria. No intention of taking it off the menu whatsoever. (Big Full Stop)
  5. I would definately go with the get good caterers and find a venue that lets you do your own thing. Personal experience 1) My own wedding-too many years ago to admit to but a true Northern Hotel wedding bash that my parents insisted on throwing- you know the sort- "coronet of smoked salmon" "rack of lamb" silver service that left you in fear of your life followed by an evening buffet courtesy of Brakes Bros- TAKE CONTROL or you will regret it- we have, in fact we are still saving up to have our own wedding anniversry bash to replace some memories! 2) Weddings I have run "outside" go great with independant everything, there should be no such thing as set menu A B or C. If you are offered anything like this then run for the hills Oh- by the way do enjoy your day!!!!!!!
  6. I'm always available for adoption!!
  7. Shucks, I've gone all red!! 1 am edit- actually you can read about us in today (Saturdays) Times magazine, or online review http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,632-2111090,00.html
  8. Not a patch on my other at West Tower They are two completely diferent animals, so I suppose it was hard to compare. I found warehouse brasserie exceptionally loud, playing Beyonce et al with the music competing with conversation throughout our meal. We were welcomed in, taken to a coat stand and told to leave our coats there- no offer of help despite them not being busy. I just don't get the fuss made over this place. We all plumped for safe lunch standby of Burger, with chips and salad garnish. The burgers came looking huge, but the cheese melted over was tasteless, and the burgers undercooked in the middle, but not in a deliberate way. My mothers husband asked if he could have a main course off their fixed 2 course lunch ( Lambs liver and bacon), but was told he would be charged for the 2 courses whether he had them or not. He and my mother had fish chips and mushy peas. Other choices ranged from bangers and mash to Monkfish at an extorionate price, or fettucine pasta cooked with four different sauces (not on one plate, mind) I'm sounding very much like the glass is half full here, but that is how it felt. To be fair, it was packed full of Southport ladies lunching, so perhaps it was just a case of wrong people in the wrong restaurant. The menu was not what I would call brasserie, and the quality didn't live up to much mentioned Bib Gourmand standard. I was very glad that my mum had chosen West Tower, and not gone with my suggestion of Warehouse Brasserie- and I really HATE saying my mother is right. But even my daughter commented that she much prefared the "pretty house on the hill" to the disco inferno.
  9. So I guess he'll not be at the stove that day!!
  10. Having eat at Ceasars palace restaurant http://www.caesarspalace.co.uk/ which claims to be Liverpools most popular restaurant, and looked like it whilst I was there, I'm afraid that I would have to agree, (Its like KFC meets CSI Miami)although Hope Street and Carriage Works are both working hard to rectify the situation. Good Chinese available though! Edited to add that they must have been looking at Warehouse Brasserie, Southport's website because they too have an odd promo video- perhaps it's catching up there- maybe I'll be bringing one back with me after my visit home!!
  11. I'm looking for edible rice paper A4 size- anyone know where I can buy it? Erica
  12. OK you persuaded me, we've booked a table (despite the video). I'll keep you posted!!!!
  13. Nope a few 'phone calls later we find everywhere is closed on a Tuesday lunch, including Michaels in Birkdale and Fraiche in Oxton, which would have been perfect. So we are back to getting all the guide books and maps out!!! Funny thing, looking at The Warehouse Brasserie- they put their address as Southport, Lancashire. Strange, last time we looked, Southport is in Merseyside, but its an obsession with all locals in Southport ( My mum still puts it on her letters etc)!!
  14. All depends...... I mean, it means very different things to all people!
  15. I've never seen 1)food disapear off a plate like that! 2) a promo video like that!! "The ultimate night out in Southport-" I'm definately allowed to say (coming from Southport) that that was the ultimate put off for me, along with boast of footballers and film stars!! Ugh.... I think I heard of a small place in Birkdale Village--- think I'll risk it and just turn up.
  16. I'm doing a duty visit home next monday (belated Mothers Day) and am looking for somewhere to eat on the way back on Tuesday- needs to be open for lunch, and to be happy welcoming my 6 year old!! Anywhere from Southport down towards Birmingham would be great- somewhere in Southport even better, as it would be great to find a great restaurant in my hometown!! Thanks!!
  17. I'd second the Firenze recommendation www.firenze.co.uk . Have to say its run by my first ever boss, and now good friend-but the food and welcome are both fantastic and yes, they moved out from the centre of Leicester.
  18. I forgot Steve Love's new place just outside Stratford Upon Avon.(If you going to drive...) I'm not sure if the 16 cover restaurant in the pub is open yet, but the pub looks lovely! http://www.collegearms.co.uk/loves-restaurant.html
  19. I ate at Saxon Mill a while back- it used to be a Beefeater or the like, and the make over is quite something. Its constantly packed, so you'll need to book or have a long wait at the bar downstairs. However the food and service were quite unmemorable, so a better bet IMHO is to go to Kenilworth to simply Simpsons.
  20. I'm sooo glad to hear that I'm not the only one to shout abuse at the TV during this, er program (v loose description).
