  1. Great idea. Plus the money would be going to a good cause.
  2. Tufano's in Little Italy was great when I was in college. It is bigger than a mom and pop place, but still has a lot of charm. Most importantly, the food was always fantastic. Tufano's Review Tufano's on Vernon Park 1073 W. Vernon Park Chicago, IL 60607 (312) 733-3393 Map it
  3. I'm surprised to see that Giordano's isn't getting more love. There are few things I enjoy more than a spinach, mushroom, & pepperoni stuffed pizza. They've got this great buttery crust that is just crispy enough- my mouth is watering just thinking about it. When I'm looking to mix things up, Lou's is also an excellent choice. I haven't been to Chicago Pizza & Grinder, but after reading feedback here I feel like I it's worth looking into.
  4. Is it end or edge grain? Do not pressure wash it or it will be ruined. Sanding or scraping are all I ever do. ← Ditto, use a plainer and make it real nice, nice. ← Thanks for your help. I'll be sure not to pressure wash it. Sanding is a great idea to smooth over the cuts and scrapes. I'll definitely try that. WineSonoma, what you mean by "end or edge grain"? ChefDG, I'm not sure what a plainer is. Can I assume it's a type of sander?
  5. I like to use them in ghormeh sabsi. Just be sure to crack them open before dropping them in the pot.
  6. Here's a question: We've had a wooden cutting board for several years now (more than 5). Over the years, the cutting surface has gotten fairly beat up, but I've been pretty good about washing it and keeping it clean. I'm thinking about taking a Hi pressure washer to it to try to get into the wood and clean it. I'm wondering, is there a rule of thumb for how long you should keep a wooden cutting board?
  7. Very similar to SuzeSushi's, but mine is a mixture of fresh red tomatoes (and yellow ones if available), torn basil leaves, pine nuts, fresh mozzerella, minced garlic, and a simple vinegarette folded into fresh fettuccine. Perfect for summer picnics too.
  8. A few years back, I was at a potluck lunch at a hunting lodge with my uncle. I was enjoying what I thought to be the best BBQ beef sandwich I'd ever had. I later found out it was BBQ raccoon and squirrel meat. mmmm... roadkill(ha, just kidding) My uncle's friend who had invited us to his lodge had hunted them and his wife prepped it. It was delicious, but I made sure to ask about the other dishes before trying any.
