  1. Point, sadistick.  All the General Tso's chicken I've had has had a good amount of chiles, hence spice.  You're correct about how the menu describes the beef, again, I don't know what is traditional/authentic in szechuan/chinese food, just what little I've had.

Try Rol San's beef (north of Dundas on Spadina, east side) and Swatow's General Tso (further south, east side again), take photos, let me know what you think!

I by no means claim to be an expert in chinese cuisine, I just go by what tastes good. To me, those dishes were well cooked with a light, crisp batter; key point being they dont swim in a sauce.

agreed on the swatow's general tso's, ive tried it as well as their black bean sauce low mein mmmm, also, their shrimp du mpling soup is awesome.

I will have to try out rol san's spicey crispy ginger beef...get to play more with the new camera :raz:

  2. Hmm...welp, You shoulda told me you wanted SPICEY. The fact is, it isnt advertised as SPICEY...its not Spicey Crispy ginger beef, its Crispy Ginger beef. I thought the general Tsao was unique in its spices, again, not SPICEY...

Sorry to hear you didnt enjoy it as much, so where is this Rol Sun place you speak of, maybe I will give it a shot and compare.

  3. Hahaha, sorry, If my list of 3 or 4 things (monkey brain, chicken feet, frogs legs, haggis) is getting long then so be it! But I'm sorry, NONE of those things have any appetizing attributes!

So what, you trying to make me nervous, Jake? Hehehe...Lookin forward to the writeup!

Last night I was at the bball game (was given coutside seats!!!) and had a BBQ Pork sandwich which was surprisingly good, very moist and tastey sauce! Too bad we lost in OT!

  4. Yah, equal parts sugar and water.

I would also strain the lemon juice to assure a smooth sorbet...Other than lemon juice, just cut it with a bit of water as you dont want PURE lemon, althought it would be interesting to see the look on your guest faces...laugh.

  5. Yah...Frogs legs, another on my list of Wont Eat's - - If its Digi camera, I wouldnt recomment keeping it for periods in the car in this weather, as temperature change can fuck with a digital camera, and sometimes seriously damage it.

Totally agree about it being key that there is no excessive sauce...

Hopefully after you go there I will still be batting 1000 on my recommendations on this site :)

  6. A new find for my family as our old joint (Peter's Chung King) has really gone down hill as of late; New Sky - Spadina just south of college...wow.

All I will say is WOW.

Sadistick, that's not nice, you have to say more than WOW! :raz: Seriously, you've got me terribly curious now as we frequent that area more often than perhaps we should. Please tell us more, including what you enjoyed so much.

To add my comments to Endy's question, for late night food I have a terrible weakness for crispy ginger spicy beef at Rol San on Spadina or souvlaki's from the Danforth, often Omonia as they seem to always grill them fresh rather than just reheat them.

Well since you asked so nicely...Although I will start off by stating that you are in trouble, especially if you have a soft spot for crispy ginger beef...as they made that dish there to PERFECTION - Their hot and sour soup is now my #2 favourite in the city behind Lei Wah Heen, and their General Tsao chicken was out of this world, so unique and tastey.

The best thing about their dishes is that the chicken or beef was crispy, coated in sauce but the key thing...not SWIMMING in sauce!

Oh, and I hear their soft shell crab is outstanding as well!

    There....happy now, Jake? :raz:

  7. Fine, if you dont like lemonade, just make a really nice Lemon Ice/Sorbet...they last forever in the freezer, and are a great palate cleanser when you have a nice meal.

Depending on how sour you like it (I Love it sour) I would just add a bit of water, and maybe a tiny bit of simple syrup.

  8. I wouldnt fry sweet potatoe fries...I would just cut em in fry shape, toss in some EVOO, S&P, maybe some Cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg, and bake till crispy.

The spices really work well with the yam's natural sweetness.

  9. Bill, I've tried the Flor de Cana 7 y/o and the 12 y/o but didn't care much for either one of them.

Sadistick, too bad about your Pina Coladas. Try again! If you can possibly get your hands on a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 y/o, then try it. We here in Florida can buy it for about $40 a bottle. Here's a website where you can learn more about it: http://www.ronzacapacentenario.com/

By the way, is it legal for someone to mail rum from the U.S. to Canada? If so then I'd be glad to send you a bottle Sadistick, for the cost of the rum and shipping.

    Hey Luna!

I have no idea if it is legal, I dont see why not, thanks very much for the offer, if you can get an approx idea how much it would be to send it to Toronto, Ontario that would be fantastic.

    Cheers

  10. Hahaha...oh the peer pressure...I WILL NOT GIVE IN! :P

I do NOT nor will I ever eat tripe, just the look of it gives me the willies!

I do love sweet breads...and i dont often eat sausages as I know what goes in to them!

Regardless, Haggis is just on my list of wont eat's along with tripe, chicken feet, and monkey brains.

  11. Been there recently...only been about 4 or so times...never had bad service...and if so, they should of said something to the manager and/or owner...they would of been taken care of.

  12. Apparently my quoting of the comedic genius, Ali G...offended (!?!?) someone...
Yes, I also got a message. Would have been a good joke too if it was me that sent in the complaint. But alas it was someone else. Probably a Kazakhstani for all we know.

Because of all this, I was also told to remove my 'copyrighted' avatar photo of Borat. How did they know it wasn't me?

... Actually, hey! Is that photo of the chef's knife you use your own? Did you take it? If not then you are also in violation of avatar policy. ("Oh, Manager Amirault?...")

wow, all I can say is its all good and fun to just talk about food, but to have a bit of a side track joke with one of the members in a thread shouldnt be such a big deal. KevV...what can I say brother...
Well, just nothing more about favourite Kazakhstani pastimes, if you please...

Now let's bring this back to the subject of food or we're both in trouble... So you say this Zucco place is good?

Hahaha, Kev...good stuff. First, I highly dout that pic of Borat is copyrighted, seeing as how countless websites use many pictures of him and they see no legal actions against the,.

I did not take that picture, and that isnt my knife...but...but.....but...I own the exact same one!!

Oh, and yes, this ZuccO(A) place is quite good, especially for the price!

PS - Parents came back last night raving about a meal they had a Mistura
