  1. If I may borrow a page from the original WOW .... Each new week should have it's own thread. The title would be something like: WOW [YVR] - Name of Wine The description would be the week it runs (e.g. January 11-18). The WOW in the Wine forum actually runs for two weeks. Thoughts? It is up to the current "cupholder" to PM the new "cupholder" for the next WOW by the middle of his/her posting period. *sigh* I'm too tired to think anymore. Read more about it here. A. ← Ooops.... newbieitis..... Mea culpa and all that Sorry for posting an additonial suggestion for another Grenache... was just so darned excited to see a topic about wine that I got carried away. If I could figure out how to erase my comment I would. Must check that out before posting again Now back to your regularly scheduled programing.....
  2. And Akbar's Own used to be Meli Taverna about 7 or so years ago... perhaps a tad longer as I can't actually remember when I last saw it there. But I think Akbar's Own used to be located where there's now a Thai Restaurat (the name of which currently escapes me) further west on Broadway near Alma which prior to Akbar's used to be a Sweet Cheribum. Whew! Another doomed location would be on the corner of Alma and West 5th. Many moons ago, it was a place called "Heart's" (I actually worked there for a while). Now it's a Japanese restaurant and it does seem to have survived under that incarnation for a while though it was quite a revolving door prior to.
  3. I like the Yalumba Bush Vines Grenache but my real FAVOURITE Aussie Grenache is: Grenache - d'Arenberg The Custodian 1999 SKU #603845 / UPC #9311832392005 Price: $25.99 Alcohol %: 13 % Sweetness: 00 Volume: 750 mL Country: Australia YUMMY I didn't like the Los Rocas that much.... found it too smoky or something. Which is actually my issue with a number of wines I've had from Spain.... not sure why. Anyhoo.... I will absolutely join in this WOW business once the next two weeks have passed. Giving the old bod a break from the bad (well, good, really) stuff till the end of January.
  4. This may be too late for you 2roost but I did see Myer lemons available at Choices Market on 16th Avenue the other day.
  5. So I had to come out of a lengthy lurking mode (and actually register with the society ) to add a comment or two about The Living Room Bistro. I have eaten there three times over the years..... first two times: the food, the service, all good. But the last time we went (probably about 2 - 2 1/2 years ago) the food was really mediocre and I haven't been back since. Now.... I have not written the place off but it just hasn't been top of mind since the last experience. As for places on 4th Ave that are great.... well.... there's Bishops of course, and Pastis and I like Maria's Greek Taverna when that sort of mood strikes. I miss Taka Japanese and have yet to try it's replacement "Yuji's" except for take out.... was not terribly impressed but will give it a "dine-in" run one of these days. Okay... back to perusing
