  1. I'm not positive, but I swore I read something about them delivering after 5:30pm. They don't knock Rocco's off the top in my book, but it's better than most places in the area that I've had.
  2. Just checked this place out for lunch. It's pretty solid. Their pizza reminded me of something I could get on the boardwalk, which is a good thing. It seems like the kinda place that would be my go-to delivery place if I lived in the area.
  3. Had a few pints of Young's Double Chocolate Stout over the weekend. Delicious.
  4. Took 3 friends to Dinic's for some roast pork sandwiches on Monday after the Phillies' rally downtown. Of course, everybody loved it, and we all had to complain about how it sucks that we normally have work in the 'burbs and can't go to the RTM everyday for lunch.
  5. Stopped at Bravos the other day, and I must say their pizza is damn near inedible. They had cheesesteak and buffalo chicken pizza, but the "cheesesteak" and "chicken" were the of the processed-Steak-Um's variety just dumped on top of a flabby, bland pie. I'd say this place nails the description of "crummy local pizza shop". Was I at the right place, on the corner of Skippack and Valley Forge, next to the Wawa? I gotta find this Charlie's joint. But for now, Rocco's is still my go-to spot.
  6. Not sure about the article, but there was this very informative thread on the quality of beef in the area... http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showto...dpost&p=1355247

    Pumpkin Ales

Right here, sir. http://www.dogfish.com/brewings/Seasonal_B...Ale/3/index.htm Not sure about shipping, though.
  8. Why I haven't posted on this thread more often is beyond me. Oh well better late than never. I've been on a Sly Fox O'Reilly Stoudt kick since my bar around the corner got it on tap the other week. I love that stuff.
  9. There are a few places serving them around town, but I haven't found any good enough to put in this "highlights" topic. Bummer... ← Has this changed at all? Has anybody found any worthy soup dumplings around? Kinda jonesing for them...
  10. I like your style, man.
  11. Why not just add a wine pairing?
  12. Seconded. I was actually given a $200 SRO gift certificate for a birthday present in 2005. Unlike JM Chen I had already worked my way through the SRO roster excepting BP but, even if I hadn't, I still reasoned that there's more meaningful eating that you can accomplish - for two - with a $200 credit at BP than any other SRO restaurant, including, perhaps arguably, Morimoto. JM, get the Gachot and Gachot rib eye (assuming it's still on the menu, which it must be) and then play around with the balance. ← Thirded. That being said, I'm far less adventurous than many other people who post on this board. I love good steak, and I agree that this is the best steakhouse in the city. With a $200 head start it should come down to either Barclay Prime or Striped Bass. You can go to all the other places anytime and you'll get the most out of the gift certificate. That is to say that you'll most likely still have to put up money at Barclay Prime while you might have a balance at the other places besides Striped Bass or Morimoto. I haven't been to the last two so I won't speculate.
  13. Seems like a whole lot is going on ... http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment...tml#recent_comm
  14. I say go for it. See how it turns out. What's the worst that could happen?
  15. It's in the same shopping center as Rocco's, kind of up in the corner next to Blockbuster. You could definitely miss it if you weren't looking. It's nothing spectacular but the lunch buffet is hard to beat, and it's better than Great Wall in the next shopping center over.
  16. Below is my quick $.02 in parentheses about the places I have been to during my lunch break or right after work. I would also like to throw in the Italian Market (not positive where it's located) for their killer hoagies. Out of sheer convenience, I'm at Rocco's and China Jade more often than the others. If I have a little extra time on my hands and want much better food I try to get to the Black Lab and Columbia. Da Vinci's and Iron Hill are ok, and Da Vinci's has a really cool stained-glass skylight over the bar, but with the other two so close and IMO better, they are difficult to get to.
  17. Word.
  18. The wings at Union Jack's in Manayunk are crazy good. They have about 10 different sauces you can get, fried nice and crispy, they're not expensive and the place has a great selection of beers. I understand it's not withing the geographic area of the original post, but I didn't see a "best wings" thread. Such a clutch neighborhood spot.
  19. As someone who doesn't know any better, I never in a million years thought that sushi is something that would have a high sugar content .
  20. Nice to see so many EGer's getting some ink. I thought Zack Stalberg's quote was amusing. Does a guy who sings about cheeseburgers dressed in a Zorro mask really take himself "too fucking seriously"? I think it's exactly the opposite. And not for nothing, but from the picture I think LaBan is a pretty generic-looking guy. I don't think he has much to worry about. Edit: It's always interesting to see the spin a story gets when most of the info comes from one side.
  21. I wanted to bump this thread because of the discussion on the Fuji thread as to who has the best sushi in the area. I would like to preface this post by saying that the only thing I know about sushi is that it is raw fish. I've tried it and didn't like it, but I'm still very interested in learning about it and would like to give it another shot. All that being said, I would like to touch on some of the points that were addressed in the Fuji thread. For starters, what are the biggest factors that go into determining who has the best sushi? The places that have been speficially mentioned are Fuji, Zento, Morimoto and Yasuda in NY. Fuji sems to have been knocked around a bit since it's re-opening on the other thread, but it has some pretty favorable reviews on this one. I would like to know what are the differences between the above mentioned places. Why is Zento better than Fuji? If price weren't a consideration, would Morimoto be the only really good sushi place worth going to? Dagordon made a point on the other thread that the sushi going public needed a kick in the tail and to demand better sushi. From reading up on the Yasuda thread in NY, it seems like that place is the end-all-be-all of sushi experiences. If I'm correct, Yasuda is strictly a sushi bar while Morimoto's sushi bar is a compliment to a larger restaraunt. As it stands, we have to assume that dagordon's comment is correct because Philadelphia doesn't currently have a stand-alone, ultra high-end sushi place. In Vadouvan's opinion, Zento's sushi is better and cheaper than Fuji's, so does price always equal quality? Again I ask because if price weren't an issue would Morimoto be of such better quality that it would negate both Zento and Fuji? I don't mean to call you two guys out, but you seems to know and care a great deal about this subject. For the record, I haven't been to ANY of these places and barely know anything about sushi, I'm just trying to stir the pot so I can learn a little bit more. Comment away...
  22. Yeah find a good tailgate in the parking lot. The Linc has your average stadium food fare with a few Chickie's and Pete's stands mixed in, and I believe they added a stand that sells the Schmitter. The food inside isn't too bad, isn't too good either. But I wasn't being sarcastic about finding a good tailgate. There are plently of people who set up shop and just grill food in the parking lot the entire game. Just gotta ask around. Football is an entirely different beast because of the tailgating aspect. Most people either tailgate or just hit Sarcone's on the way down to the game. Since it's a Friday night game, though, I guess Sarcone's is out. GO BIRDS!!!
  23. Well, that bicolor corn is absolutely spectacular. I just grilled up a few pieces and I can't imagine corn tasting much better than that. The white corn is also damn good, but the bicolor is simply on another level.
  24. Had a completely forgettable burger today at the Iron Hill Brewery in Phoenixville. Had to meet somebody there for a business lunch. Order the burger med-rare with swiss and bacon, came out mid-well. It was surprisingly still quite juicy, but the meat seemed relatively flavorless. The fries were way overdone. If it were my choice of where to go, we would've been at either the Columbia or Black Lab.
  25. Anybody know what time they're open till?
