Not to mention it only works when you're not full, which is probably why on Seinfeld they had red wine as a backup when they wanted to play with that lady's toy collection.

Other fine options... Nodding Head The Happy Rooster Sansom Street Oyster House and Ludwig's Garten.

I remember being disappointed when I went to Petit 4 and saw the "closed" sign, but with Tartes around the corner at 212 Arch, now I can have both cheese and pastries from the top shelf in the same area when I visit Old City. BTW, Tartes doesn't open til noon usually.

I was looking through some old Rick Nichols columns I had stashed away and came across one about legendary fish buyer Tony McCarthy (at the time working at Neil Stein's Fishmarket on 18th.) There was a passage that caught my eye; "Fishermen 'fish the moon,' the bright nights when the fish feed longer. Full moons mean full holds and a rush to shore: You get good deals on the full moon. You don't want to buy, however, from the glut that's left a week later." With that in mind, I thought I'd make an entry just before the full moon (Dec 5 2006) to alert PA eGulleteers. And if anyone thinks of it before each full moon, just make a short entry to bring this thread to the forefront as a reminder. Phases of the Moon Webpage

Franzone's Pizza is another Bridgeport standout that competes well with the outside world. And their pizza sauce is sweet enough to almost qualify as a donut filling. But I'll stick with Suzy Jo for donuts. Worth a drive from Upper Darby.

Sounds like... Tofutti?

I brought some NY Bagels (2 salt, 2 sesame, 2 egg) to Linda & Jerry Mullane at Pig Daddy's BBQ in Drexel Hill. They're both NY natives (he's originally from Inwood, she's originally from the Bronx) and were recently lamenting the sad state of bagel affairs in this area (Hot Bagels has new owners and changed their bagels), so after reading this thread I brought them some NY bagels from Haverford Ave at City Line at the strip mall next to the corner McDonald's. They were especially impressed that the salt bagels had both sides salted.

Tried the Ma Po Tofu with Pork and it was delightful. Shared it with my wife, and she enjoyed it too. The tofu was engorged with spicy heat, but it was still manageable, just right.

Peter Kaminsky's "Pig Perfect" & Pollan's "Omnivore's Dilemma" got me started in the right direction, but for an assiduously researched reference, it's hard to beat Marion Nestle's "What to Eat."

I really miss the lobster (croissant) rolls from the old Yann's Patisserie & Cafe on S 18th.

Business Week confirms our suspicions. The synergy will flow like wine. In this case, synergy is taking Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and ending up with someone who dances like Fred Rogers.

Go to "Yahoo Preferences" and see if the "Hide Cake" button is checked off.

Tried to search Yahoo! Food for "foie gras" Result: Sorry, no matches were found for ""foie gras"". Suggestions: Check your spelling. Try more general words. Try different words that mean the same thing. Glad to see they're on top of things.

No doubt there are few from Tyler's target audience reading this thread. For those his show is aimed at, these commercials are most likely a step up for them. He is, after all, an instructor. The already savvy need not watch his show but beginners would do well to watch him. IMHO, I think he's an excellent instructor and I wish I had more teachers like him in high school. Sure, he jumped the shark, but let him make his money. I think he's earned it.

John, after seeing your "after" picture, I said "So THAT's what scrapple's made of ! " Thanks for solving another mystery.

Starting to sound more like "Rayhoo."

Just remember,Google puts paying customers at the top of the list. No guarantee of quality. Prepare to plumb the depths for quality sites.

That article was one of the best in the Daily News since your articles about Holly & Hot Dogs. Nobody who gets this paper should throw it out until they cut out that article. There's no excuse for not eating great tomato pie anymore. I can't believe I've gone to Alex's Pizza and never knew about Marchiano's right around the corner. Can't wait to try it, and I completely forgot about West Conshy Bakery. So many years have passed.

Try Foodies, Recipe Hound, or Recipe Source.

As mentioned abovethread. ← Worth many mentions. The best I've had of all of them. But it is sweet. Seems to disappear, so bring a lot.

Gnaw some. How about gnaw some?

For diners - there's Minella's on Lancaster Ave in Wayne, Ruby's in Ardmore Square, Main Line Deli in Narberth. Japanese, I'd recommend Hana, across the parking lot from the "Lancaster County Farmer's Market" in Wayne. Another good choice for Chinese is Sang-Kee Peking Duck, in the same shopping center as the Whole Foods Market on Lancaster Ave just before Wynnewood Rd. Much better coffee than Starbucks (locally roasted La Colombe) and the best chocolate almond croissants you ever ate (go early, open at 7) at Le Petit Mitron, 207 Haverford Ave in Narberth. Everything is made with butter, no shortening. Pastries that could make you relocate.

You gotta love Pig Daddy's "Ultimate Meateaters Burger" with a pair of half-pound black angus patties, cheese & bacon for $11.00. Ten bucks without cheese, but who eats a burger without cheese? Just tell them if you don't want the lettuce, tomato & caramelized onions.

No surprise, though Bobby's sandwich looked pretty good. BTW, did you see the size of the bite Tony Jr took outta Bobby's steak? My uncle once told me about Tony Jr's grandfather Armando, and how he would put a turkey leg in his mouth, twist it, and it would come out clean. Until now, I thought it was apocryphal.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. When (not if) Chris & Company come to KC, I hope they avoid bbq like the plague. Not that we don't have THE BEST (take that! Texas, Carolina and Tennessee ) but it's been done...to...death. Esp on TFN. Show 'em something they're NOT expecting! [stepping off soapbox now.] ← Here's an idea... KC hoagies & Philly BBQ
