  1. Seems like not the greatest location to me. Until a couple of months ago, I lived a block away. I don't ever remember seeing those restaurants busy. Maybe they get all their business during the day, when I was at work. I have to admit, I never even got around to trying Chin Chin's. I did try the Mexican place next door, and I don't remember being terribly impressed.
  2. Back from the honeymoon (Maui), so I thought I'd quickly follow up. We ended up going to Etta's. Not a terribly adventurous choice, but I was in a seafood mood and it was good. Thanks for the ideas!
  3. I'm pretty open, really. Until a month ago, I lived in Belltown, so I know a lot of the restaurants on the north end of downtown (and will likely choose one of them), but I was kind of curious for a "brainstorm" kind of response. Basically, where would you go for a similar occasion? There is actually one vegetarian with us, but he eats fish and I've never been anywhere with him that didn't have something he'd eat. Even The Met, with its focus squarely on beef, has several things I'm sure he'd like.
  4. I'm getting married on Saturday and I'm trying to decide on a place to go to dinner with my best man and a friend tomorrow night (not really a bachelor party -- I'm not looking for something crazy). We'll probably go somewhere downtown, since they're staying there. Any suggestions? I can figure something out, but I'm curious what you folks would recommend.
  5. It's unlikely the name will change in Chicago. Marshall Fields actually owns the name. The Bon was just licensing it from them. The license is running out (and apparently they were unable or unwilling to renew it), so they have to change the name of their version. At least, that's my understanding of the issue.
  6. We drove by there last night and I actually thought it might be open. Lots of people in there, all the TVs on. I guess they were just doing final prep for opening.
  7. It's my favorite "everyday" cookbook. However, that could be largely because it was my mom's primary cookbook when I was growing up, so I sort of grew up cooking from it. I've found most of the recipes to be reliable and good, if fairly simple. Fannie Farmer is usually the first book I pick up when I want a recipe for something basic. When I want something new or adventurous, I tend to look elsewhere.

    Moving with wine

I'm packing to move, and I just realized that I haven't given any thought to moving my wine. I have only a couple dozen bottles, and none of them are rare or unusally valuable. But I still would like to get them to the new house intact! The move is pretty short -- around 20 miles. And I'll be moving this stuff myself in my car (it won't be riding in the back of a truck or tossed around by the guys from the moving company). Do you have any tips on how to pack and move these bottles safely? Would a wine shop be willing to sell or give me some of their empty shipping boxes? Should I just wrap them all in paper or bubble wrap and put them into a box I already have? Thanks!
  9. Thanks! For the record, I believe that Armadillo BBQ has gone out of business (or maybe they moved somewhere else). I think a week or two ago, it suddenly appeared to be closed down and now the space looks unoccupied. I'm glad to hear that I probably didn't miss much in not getting there before it closed!
  10. Hello all. This is my first post here, so I'll begin with a brief introduction. My name is Sean, and I've been living in Belltown for a little over five years. I love both cooking at home and eating out, so I'm always interested to hear about new food-related places. We're getting ready to move near Bothell and Woodinville, and I know the restaurant scene out there (if you can call it that) is quite a bit different from what we're used to in Belltown. Do any of you have any favorites you'd recommend we try? We know about The Herbfarm and Barking Frog. But what else is worth checking out? Thanks!
