    Octaveman, Just a couple of quick clarifications. When you say Bean Sauce I assume you are using Black bean sauce. Also, can I substitute crushed red pepper flake for the dried red peppers? Thanks, Mike

  3. I made a big pot of Erwtensoep over the weekend. Basically the same recipe as Chufi's with just a few additions. After letting the soup sit overnight you stir in a half cup of white wine and a half cup of light cream. The recipe was given to me by my neighbor from when I lived in Wassenaar (I will post it later).

  5. King's had some nice Prime Rib on sale at the Midland Park location this week. $4.99/lb. I bought a nice 3 bone one on Sunday and cooked it.

  7. A & P has colossal grilling shrimp on sale this week. Freshwater 13-15 count $6.99/lb.
  8. Live ones (I know you said you didn't want to clean them) are widely available at places like Market Basket, Whole Foods and Kings. They even had some at the Shoprite in Ramsey this weekend.

  18. I used to work in the area and we would have our holiday party there. The food was actually pretty good. I also went to a wedding there about 5 or 6 years ago and from what I remeber the food was very good. edit for spelling
  19. We ate there again last week I thought I would update this thread. Everything was very good and the wait staff seemed more on the ball than previous occasions. The menu. We had the 7-course. (format stolen from chefdavidrusso's thread) Started with something from the chef. A chinese style spoon with a piece of roasted artichoke heart, goat cheese and microgreens. 1st Course ME - Big Eye Tuna Tartar GF - Lump crab salad (cake) with avocado, greens, and citrus dressing. THE WINNER - Toss up. 2nd Course ME - Daily special grilled white aspargus with micro greens and balsamic vinagrette. GF - Heirloom Tomato Salad with Bleu Cheese, Crispy Shallots, Micro Greens, and Basil Oil. THE WINNER - Tomato salad. 3rd Course ME - Foie Gras with Cranberry Mango Bread Pudding, Red Wine Reduction ad Aged Balsamic Drizzles GF. - same THE WINNER - Foie gras (actually I forget what else was available, since we both wanted the foie gras. 4th Course ME - Sea bass with cockles in a tomato "broth". GF - Seared Tuna (I forget how it was presented) THE WINNER - Sea Bass 5th Course ME - Braised short rib with gorgonzola polenta. GF - Muscovy duck breast on toasted wild rice with red-wine and cranberry reduction. THE WINNER - Short Rib 6th Cheese course Five or six (sorry can't remember) types of cheese served with cranberry bread, creamy chèvre and Vermont blue are the only two I remember for sure. 7th Dessert (not a big dessert eater so I don't recall the details of mine) ME - Blueberries with shortbread and cream. GF - Fallen chocolate cake THE WINNER - Chocolate cake

  22. I was taken here a couple of years ago and I assume it is still there. It is a block up (towards the Grand Concourse) from the McDonalds which is under the subway tracks. Not bad Jamaican food, I had the goat curried goat because it was recommended.   23. A couple of more places in Allendale. Mezzaluna Flirt Beantowne Gourmet Inc. I haven't eaten at any of them but I saw they that they have outdoor dining.
