  1. I think University Seafood & Poultry, in the U-district, usually has quail eggs (or at least that is what I think I see out of the corner of my mind's eye).
  2. Oh, and for you soda pop shoppers, another source: http://www.realsoda.com/
  3. Gotta love Ting. And Kola Champagne (by D&G) - a super sweet, cream soda style confection that I drank like water as I child. Not sure I could finish one now, but I still love it. and now I am off to find out where I can get Ting in Seattle.
  4. This sunday, we (boyfriend and I) stopped by Baguette Box - its probably our 5th or 6th visit. We have a routine - we share 2 sandwiches: one is always the drunken chicken (oh, how I love thee drunken chicken), and then we try one of other sandwiches. This time, the other was the braised pork with roasted red pepper (I think we have a 2nd favorite now). So, even though we really like Baguette Box, we have wondered if the bread had to be so darned crunchy. And yesterday, it wasn't so darned crunchy. Still great bread, just a little less likely to scrape the roof of your mouth. Anybody else noticed this? I am hoping it is a shift to less rigorous bread, not just a fluke.
  5. Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by D. Madison taught me scads about vegetables, among other things. And for the southern vegetarian - The Grit Cookbook - from the restaurant in Athens, GA. They have recreated all those bacon-based veg. delights for vegetarians. Good stuff I tell you. And I am so excited that after reading this thread this morning, I stumbled upon McGee's On Food and Cooking in a used bookstore (one that is sadly closing and has everything discounted 50%). Kitchen science will be my bedtime reading for the remainder of the summer. I imagine it will make for interesting dreams. And like many others, I really enjoy Elizabeth David's writing. It makes me want to reinvent myself as an adventuress in the kitchen, instead of the recipe-bound, cook book clinging novice that I am.
  6. PCC is Puget Consumers Co-op. See http://www.pccnaturalmarkets.org
  7. Diggity Dog in Wallingford has quite an array of hot dogs & sausages. The basic version is a "Diggity Dog" - a kosher all beef hot dog. They also have a nice selection of condiments ( including chili). Great stuff for a hot summer afternoon.
  8. The Mai Tai at Luau is lovely, and a little dangerous - just as it ought to be.
