  1. My wife and I go there frequently, because we live right down the street from it. I've never once had a bad meal there, and I think their burger is one of the best around the area
  2. Unfortunately, now that I'm employed once again I can't get there during the day. My only hope is that they are open on the weekends for dinner or something like that, becaause this is all looking WAY too good to miss.
  3. I'm staying at the Embassy Suites in Buckhead, which I am to understand is about 1 1/2 blocks from a MARTA station. I think I'm going to track down Watershed, even if it doesn't fit my exact "requirements", which aren't really requirements at all but rather just a starting point for suggestions. And therese, I can't switch hotels, as I am in fact an employee of Embassy Suites. But thanks for the suggestion . Since it seems like restaurants in the Buckhead area are of the more upper end, do you have any suggestions? FoodTutor - what are your two restaurants? Perhaps I'll check them out.
  4. Actually, it isn't particularly close ... but there is a ton of great food in Buckhead ... your local transportation? ← I have no pre-planned transportation.....pretty much cabs and/or public.
  5. I'm going to be in Atlanta (Buckhead) on business next week and I'm looking for some good places to eat. They don't have to be truly "cheap", but I'm definately not looking for the 3-hour, white table cloth experience. Ethnic is good, no sushi though. And if it's around in that part of town, some good soul food wouldn't be a bad thing, either. And while you're at it, some good evening entertainment suggestions would be a help. Thanks -David
  6. I'm going to be in town for 4 nights next week on business, staying in Buckhead. Is this place anyway near to where I'm going to be? -David
  7. I'll check it out one day early this coming week and post. Probably for lunch, if anyone wants to be a co-guinea pig.
  8. Doesn't look like I'm making it for lunch afterall. Trying again for next week
  9. I've heard this rumor a couple of times recently that there's a really good Indian Restaurant in the upstairs of Natl. Wholesale Liquidators on 17. Does anybody know anything about this? Is there any juice to it, or are people severly misguided
  10. For the record....the Horseradish Havarti, smoked turkey, and peach chutney ROCKS!!! It's the perfect balnce of smokey, hot, and sweet.... Then, with not nearly enough time to prepare yourself, it hits you....this blinding, make-your-eyes-melt, make-your-nose-explode horseradish heat. And the best part is you never know when to expect it next, so from then on you eat your sandwich with this sort of "horror flick" sense of excitement. "Will it be this bite? Maybe? No...false alarm. Maybe this bi....AAHHHHHH - IT HURTS....MAKE IT STO....oh wait, it stopped. Whew...." Kinda reminded me of taking a big bite of the fresh horseradish at my first Passover Seder Great to meet you Glenn....you're now my Jersey City goto, and on my list to pass on to all my friends.
  11. I think I'm gonna hit this place tomorrow (4/7) for lunch if anyone wants to check it out. RP? Lou?
  12. Hi Lou - I would definiately vote for option a. You don't want to devolve into Buddy Hackett's Chinese restaurant where the guests are choosing 1 from Column A and 2 from Column B. You have a vision of what your dish should be and I think you should stick to it. Let us know what you decide
  13. Sorry it's taken me a while to get back... Brunch at the GRI was passible but nothing outstanding. They had the standard buffet fare...the fruit salad was fresh and ripe, but the traditional "cantalope/honeydew/pineapple" variety. The green salad was, again, fresh looking but under-whelming. They had bagels, danish, muffins, and the like which were good if not obviously purchased from a mass producer. I think their hot entrees fared a little bit better, with two notable exceptions. They had scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, bacon and sausage, and eggs benedict (that actally had decent hollandaise). They had lamb stew, which was pretty good, and a chicken dish which may have been marsala (?)...I can't really remember at this point. The biggest dissapointments were the carved meats...they had lamb and fresh ham, both of which were overcooked to the point of inedibility. Forget juicy ham and medium-rare lamb....it was brown shoe leather lamb, and ham that I initially thought must have been turkey because of it's grey-ish beige coloring. They came close to redeeming themselves with their quiche...I thought it was excellent. Ham and cheese, if I recall...good buttery crust, nice richness to the custard, and the filling was well-seasoned. So basically, if your expectations aren't very high you won't be dissapointed. It worked for us because it was low-key and relaxed, and it didn't matter if my 17-month old was a little rowdy. But I would stick to lunch.....get the reuben.
  14. So, Chef...did you get to The Jefferson?? Do tell! ← Didn't end up going to the jefferson....our son was sick so we opted to stay closer to home. We actually ended up being able to walk-in at Zarrole at about 8, so i guess it all worked out. We were fairly impressed with Zarole. It's the kind of place that I think is able to stand out because it's not in NYC....if it were, there would be a dozen other plcaes like it with-in 10 blocks. But I don't mean for that to detract from it's accomplishments...I thought my foie/scallop dish (with some kind of vanilla syrup or something like that) and my veal chop were excellent. My wife had a goat cheese "napolean" and grouper, if I remember correctly. Perhaps that's it....I can't really remember the precise details, just a week and a half later. It was very good, but not overwhelmingly memorable.
  15. My wife and I were in Ridgewood a couple of Sundays ago, and checked in on the Office for their brunch. They have discontinued it, citing a lack of business. They are still open on Sundays, but with their regular menu. We're trying the Glen Rock Inn for ther Sunday Brunch on Easter...I think it's $16.95 for the buffet, young kids are $6.95, and under 2 is free. I'll post about it ....
  16. Thanks for all the recomendations....I think we're going to try the Jefferson. I'm fairly confident that it will be an outstanding expererience - we've never yet been steered wrong by an eG suggestion.
  17. Yes, it's right by the RR-- nice French, probably the best Frisee salad I've ever had-- a work of art!! (Can't believe Zarole is booked already!) ← Zarole's not booked up, but they can't take us at a time that fits our schedule.
  18. Yeah...we thought about Zarole, but they can't take us. Is Latour the one right around the corner from A&B Bakery, by the train station
  19. My wife and I want to go out for dinner on Saturday for our annivesary and we're looking for a restaurant not terribly far from Glen Rock/Ridgewood. We've done Rocca, we've done Village Green...past those we don't know the places to hit. No real parameters in terms of cuisine, or level of formality, or the cost. But we are hoping for a somewhat nice dinner. How far would American Grill be from us? Is that our best bet? Thanks for your help -Dave
  20. Hi Glenn - I've been lurking in this thread fo a while, just because my work schedule was so hectic and I had had to step back from posting for a time. But I want to wish you the best of luck!! Any of us who have even owned or run a small restaurant know all the frustrations and joys that go along with it, and I give you many kudos. I am sending as much good karma your way as I can summon. I wish my life took me towards Jersey City more often, because MELT sounds like the type of place that I would have lunch at every day. But I'll make it out there someday soon -Dave
  21. I certainly appreciate your confidence, but "promptly" might be a strong word. Lunch was definately quite good. I'm still not entirely convinced that sushi is my thing, but Snoopy kicked ass. And the wasabi rolls (tuna, wasabi, jalapeno, and maybe other things that I can't remember) were good, but could carry a kcik, as Tracey and I both found out. And the eel was excellent, but I'll leave it to the other more experienced sushi eaters to fil in the details. Thanks for hooking that up, Ev....it was a fine, fine afternoon.
  22. I think you should keep it very simple.... "Melt - A Damn Fine Grilled Cheese!"
  23. What a great concept. I kind of wish there were a non-sushi restaurant that would work like that. Hmm...maybe that's my key to riches......
  24. I don't really know where any of those towns are in relation to me, so I guess I'm pretty flexible. BTW..what exactly is omakase? -Dave
  25. I would definitely be in for sushi on the 2nd. I will admit to my complete and total lack of sushi eating experience...it' not something I have historically enjoyed, but I'm willing to give it the old college try. Lunch at AAG would be great too.....any day works for me. Thanks for spearheading this one, Kim!!
