  1. Here's a link: http://www.mingspantry.com/m-bvin.html I don't really think it tastes much like balsamic personally, but balsamic would probably work too.. Here's another link that I randomly came across, in cause you're watching your yin. http://www.richardseah.com/naturalhealth/blackvin.html ← WOW...black vinegar sounds great...thanks so much for the tip.....thats gonna save a ton of calories that i could use elsewhere...like on pastry!!! mmmm Thanks again!
  2. black vinegar? that sounds interesting...but what is that? Dont think i have ever heard of it...what does it taste like ?? That would definately be a good idea..no calories there.
  3. YEAH! that was going to be my next question....what to dip the meat into. I do the same...butter and lemon. BUT!!! what do you do when you want to keep the calories at bay. Today i had a HUGE crab...almost 2 1/2 pounds. That takes alot of butter. What do else do you think might make a tasty dipping sauce that would not be loaded with calories. I eat too many crabs to keep using butter. Got any ideas???
  4. I once got safeway to cook a live one for me becuase they were out of the cooked ones but i have to honestly tell you that i didnt care too much for them warm. I thought i would becuase i have always cooked the blue crabs i use to catch when i lived in New Orleans. SOmehow to my taste buds...the dungeness just dont seem to taste as good warm as the blue crab. But cooled to room temp they are really good. Also... maybe i need to add a little salt to the cooking water as i think these cooked crabs are boiled in seawater or something. It is really wonderful these dungeness are so good cool...becuase they can be bought and then just eaten straight away. Blue crabs dont taste good when they have cooled and are even day old. Many a time i use to have to throw them out after putting them in the fridge to eat the following day....they tasted terrible. But not the dungeness..they are just as yummy the day after. I will try the live again...maybe i will try adding some of the crab boil seasoning that's used in New Orleans...that might be REAL interesting.
  5. I usually get my seafood from a smaller supplier i totally agree with you. I did get some crabs this week at QFC becuase they were cheap...and they were pretty good. But i have not gotten any from a place like university seafood...i will have to try them next time i am in the area. I try to eat crabs alot as it is one of the perks of living in this area dn they are SOOO good. Thanks for the tip and your comments
  6. I LOVE to buy a big FAT crab from time to time...but it occured to me that some places might have better than others. I tend to get them when they are on special offer at the grocery stores...but i have never had any from Pike Place. Has anyone had them from different places and noticed any differences ? Or... do the grocery stores get shipped the same crabs that go to Pike Place? And how big do they get?? .... the biggest i have managed to find in the stores are about 2 pounds...what have you had? Thanks
  7. I am glad to see this thread.....I am on the other side of the country but i have been dying to know what Sullivan's breads were really like. I would consider moving to the city ...just for Sullivan just becuase i am so MAD for for REALLY good bread. I'd be interested to know what people think of their breads compared to the breads of Acme and The Cheeseboard in Berkley. If anyone would care to comment on that i would love to hear what you have to say. There are some AWESOME bread bakers in northern Calif. I do look forward to tasting Sullivans bread someday. I even called and asked if they would overnight me some and they said no. Everytime i look at their website to see the bread porn...it drives me NUTZ! I know...I'm crazy....BUT!!! LOVE GOOD BREAD! I even heard Mario say once in one of his cooking shows that 'if you cant get good bread where you live...move to somewhere you can!!!' I SWEAR he was talking to me! HAHAHA!!! Anyway....i would love to hear your opinions if you have any about the comparison of the the bakeries. Thanks
  8. You know.... i actually wrote them a letter telling them that smokey bacon flavour would be REALLY good. I do hope that they were at least considering it. When you taste the new sample..PLEASE let us know what you think. I LOVE good chips and new flavours! I look forward to hearing what you have to say. Yum!
  9. WOW!!!! I am DYING to taste that one. Last week I found the 20 OZ bag of Maui Onion on sale and have been having a pig fest on it with every lunch. Hawaiian BBQ sounds AWESOME! Have you tasted them yet? I am still crossing my fingers for smokey bacon flavour someday. Mmmmm
  10. GOOD FOR YOU!! I did the same thing to celebrate the year 2000. I blew off my nice FAT job on December 13 1999 to study pastry. You will LOVE your new life! Good luck!
  11. I would love to see this...do you know if they will be selling the candy that they will be making as well? Cant wait to try it.
  12. OK! I have NOT had a good burger since i have been here...becuase i TOO had an 'in and out habit' What is this Dick's place please.... and is it really as good as In and Out burger??? Thanks so much
  13. It has been my expecience in Italy that pizza is usually eaten with a knife and fork as you would anything that needed cutting....and eaten one bite at a time...not picked up as a piece to be bitten off of. When i first went as a 16 year old...I was confused about it till i was shown by my elders how to eat it properly. You dont need a really sharp knife...just a plain old knife and fork...thats it. Sounds to me that Via Tribunale is doing it the real Italian way. I look forward to trying it.
  14. WOW! You stop there and have never had their boudin????? YOU MUST try it! I use to drive over from new orleans when i lived there just to get my hands on pounds of it. AND! I would always have one for the road...or maybe 2 links on the way back. It was a long ride back. I can STILL smell it and taste that first yummy bite....mmmmmmm SOOOO GOOOD!!!! Make sure you get some hot and ready to eat next time. I am so jealous.
  15. WOW...tha sounds great...just what i think my poor friend from Indy needs...i'll definitely check it out!!!
  16. Thanks for your suggestions.... i will look into all of them...especailly Tom's place!! SUPER!!!! Thanks SO much!
  17. even though it has been 2 years since i left NOLA i STILL cant get The Best Stop out of my mind....how do you think it compares with Poches boudin? It was the best i ever had. I briefly considered moving back just for that alone but i am so addicted now to the salmon up here in the NW that i dont know how i would manage without that either. edited becauce of my lousy spelling
  18. Thanks SOOO much for all the suggestions...i especially like the suggestion of roast beef for boxing day. Now if only i had somewhere to take my friend for breakfast Christmas morning. I think the good hotels will be the places to check for that. Thanks again.
  19. Thanks for all your suggestions on dinners...i am sure i will find what i need from what you have suggested. Now...Christmas morning it would be lovely to have a nice early breakfast ..somewhere we can sit and chat and maybe look at the sound....or watch whatever people are out and about.... Downtown might be nice....or are there any nice hotels with lovely places to have breakfast? I know this is asking alot at this time of the year....but if anyone can help on this i would be most appreciative. There is always the hope that someone might know of some nice little warm inviting place. Thanks again for all your suggestions.
  20. Yep... I know Placebo is with Beechers. Since i live in the area i follow the pacific NW board daily. I just decided to look at the Louisiana board for a moment as i was having a true pains missing my old apartment out by the lake down the street from all the fresh caught shrimp. Not to mention i think i would sell my soul for a link of white boudin from the Best Stop. My LORD! Never had it THAT good anywhere else. I love it up here in the NW...rain and all but there is nothing like La. food! I love New Orleans especially. Thanks for the post.
  21. I am only passing thru here but i spent many years in NOLA...i am currently in the Seattle area but holy COW !!!Flat out the BEST butter i have EVER had in my LIFE! is from a place here in the Pike Place Market called Beechers. It is absolutely BEYOND WORDS!!! They make it themselves and it puts ALL others to shame..amd i do mean ALL OF THEM!!!! If you are ever in the area and can get to Beechers you WILL NOT be disapointed! I buy loads of it at a time...it freezes well. I just cant be without it. it is to die for on good bread. When you taste it...you will know what i mean! TRY IT!
