No wonder the three (yes three) drinks tasted like shit. I kept re-ordering hoping something would be decent enough to drink. I agree, the Lechon there is out of this world.

check out Habana Cuba Restaurant off of Steven's Creek & Race in SJ. Great food, just skip the drinks...

Melissa, you're telling me that i'm not invited? And I thought the North and South are united now... *tsk* *tsk*

or you can grab a mojito there and then cross the street for dinner at Bistro Elan. It's not new, but has been my Palo Alto favorite for years. Went to Elan on Aug 3rd with my friend tharrison that used to love the place, I wasn't impressed and suprizingly, she wasn't either. Does anybody know if anything has changed here or we just hit a bad day?

Somebody mentioned Orginal Joe's, good gawd, why whould anybody reccomend that in a foodie forum, heh. Yes, it's very historical but the food is sub-par at best imho.

Wow, thanks for the review, lots of infomantion about this great restaurant :-)

mmmm, and grits too!

No way, I like water packed tuna better, I never cared for oil packed. As for taste of canned tuna, you can't compare it to -real- tuna, you have to think of it as totally different product.

I painted the American Foods factory in vacaville, ca (now renamed as International Foods) It was kinda cool to see semi-tankers drive up with the "sauce" and see how they "cook" the food right in the can itself. As for eating it, i'll stick to my Tuna Helper, i don't care what you people say! ;-)
-
I have to admit, i'm addicted to Tuna Helper's "creamy pasta", maybe it's because I refuse to eat any sort of hamburger sandwitchs, i'm cursed with this afflection but I admit it here today, on eG, that yes, i love Tuna Helper "creamy pasta" (but i can't stand the rest of the "flavors", they are vile)

just admit it, you love me ;-)

They've been here for a while... The only one I've came across was the one at the Solano mall in fairfield, ca. I was bidding a job there for the mall management when i saw the sign, i jumped up and down and ran to it giddy. My friend tammy would tell me all about the chik-fil-a for years and making fun of me for never expirencing it. Damn that woman, she was right, freaking awesome fast food. mmmm.

Richard better bow before and kiss my shiney metal ass for losing funding at his restaurant a couple days befor my reservation when he opens up again :-)

I feel a tip is something that is a gift from me to the person(s) that offered service. And as a gift, I tend to give readily but when I see it being turned into another venue to pay the stuff a wage, then I get huffy about it. I normally tip 20-30% because that's what I feel is apporiate in my situation because it's my way of saying thank you. If the business is going to force me into saying thank you, then screw them and they can have their 18% and go to hell. As for the employees, they make a wage, I don't feel obligated to pay them a secondary paycheck. Like i said it should be thank you gift not a forced contract tax or fee. And to really think about it, I rather have the money go to the underpaid mexican dishwashers in the back, they are the ones more deserving an additional income. As to get back on track with TFL, I have no problem paying the 18% tax but they shouldn't expect me to tip an additional 20-30%, it's wrong IMHO. PS. I'm very impressed that you learned to use the computer at your ripe old age of 99 :-)

I really dislike giving an additional tip over above a manditory gratuity, if they are going to force me to pay a tip, then screw them I say.

i -love- chik-fil-a, finally they are coming to California, woo hoo

I think so when the venue has been praised so much with TFL and Keller as the chef. Places like the french laundry is all about the food, and for us foodies, the skill and prep and art that is what it's all about. When you start making TFL more of an entertainment destination (that I pray would never happen) things start to change. I want Keller to keep striving for perfection in food and not having to worry about mass marketing his name to make more of a profit. For example, Nobu has faultered over the years even though Nobuyuki-san is doing a awesome job traveling from one Nobu restaurant to another on a constatant basis. The quality isn't there as it once was, and each place has it's own level of quality as well.
