    Dinner! 2004

I went to a Monday night football party last night where we needed to each bring a dish. What a feast! We had pulled pork sandwiches, 3 different kind of bbq sauces of our choice for the pulled pork, chicken wings, chicken drumbsticks, smoked salmon, crabmeat rangoon, 2 different kinds of salsas. my dish was a pasta salad consisting of rotini pasta, 4 kinds of cheese, ham, bacon, red and green pepper, onion, chopped olives, sliced pimentos, old bay seasoning, basil and an entire bottle of ranch dressing.

  9. We are planning to go to New Orleans for my 30th birthday in January and we are trying to compile a list of restaurants, bakeries and food shops to eat at. We have one dinner planned for the Bombay Club, but the rest of the vacation is still open when it comes to the food. We will be in town for 6 days.
  10. I look forward to reading the upcoming posts..I think this is going to be a good one!
  11. so far i have used Beefeaters and Gordons and have had some nice results with these. I did not like the tanquray. What do you use and do what gins do you reccomend?
  12. I took a bottle of Jack Daniels and poured it into a jar and then i added tart cherries, 2 quartered apples, sugar, whole allspice, whole cloves, and a cinnamon stick. I then let all of this marinate in the jar for 8 weeks, stirring daily. I then discarded the fruit and strained it through a chesecloth. It turned out pretty good but i think i may cut down a little on the sugar (recipe called for 2 cups).
  13. Beergal...Thank you for posting the link to the website. I learned a lot about the product. I dont think i would buy it again though, i felt that it tasted too sour for my liking
  14. As soon as i took the little metal cork protector off the cork it popped out of the bottle. I poured it into a champange glass and it was REALLY carbonated. It has a real nice honey smell to it but the taste would take a little getting used to. I think the Malt liquor was a little overpowering.
  15. I wasnt sure where to post this but i figured the beer forum would be the best spot I found this at the liquor store today and i couldnt resist the urge to pick up a bottle and try it The label says its brewed and bottled by Hanssens Artisanaal Dworp Belgium. Mead provided by Llurgashall, Petworth, West Suffex UK Thw label says its 70% malt liquor and 30% mead and its corked like a champange bottle. Im going to give this a try tonight and i will post what i think of it
  16. Edward, the rum that i have is labeled at 40% alcohol
  17. I was at a local liquor store today and they had a special on Stubbs gold rum from Austraila for $7.95 a 750ml bottle. Being the adventureous type i grabbed one. Has anybody ever tried it and what is your opinions of it?
  18. Old Rasputin is a excellent stout, I truly enjoyed it. I even like the artwork on the bottle. It has a nice kick to it at 8.9% alcohol. I would recomend it
  19. What are flying saucers?? I have never heard of them.
  20. I would like to thank everybody for the advice and help with the wild rice question. I just got done making a marinade for the game hens. I split each bird in half and laid flat in a baking dish. The marinade consists of 1 and 1/2 cups of olive oil, 3/4 cup of dry red wine, 3 cloves minced garlic and 1 tsp of ground black pepper. I used Walnut Crest Merlot for the wine. So now the little birdies are marinating for the next 24 hours before their date with destiny on the weber grill its going to be a early dinner about 4 pm so i figure i will make the 2 mustard sauce about noon so it gives it a few hours for the flavors to blend together a little better. The two mustard sauce consists of 1 and 1/2 cups heavy cream, 2 garlic cloves minced, 3T Dijon Mustard, 2T coarse grain mustard and salt and pepper to taste. I figure on starting the wild rice about 1:30 and our friends will be over by 2. Us 2 guys usually end up doing all the cooking while the wives go into the living room and watch tv and gossip. I figure if we get the pancakes going by 3 and we start the hens on the grill by 3:30-3:45 we should be doing ok timewise I will let everybody know how it turned out...have a good weekend Scott
  21. What drew me to them is that i collect beers. I live near a liquor store that sells over 800 kinds of beer and you can buy them by the indivisual bottle. These were 4 beers that i havent tried yet. I started this hobby about 4 years ago when a friend of mine gave me a bottle of Guinness to try. I had actually hated beer at that time (perish the thought). Well I started doing a lot of reading on beer and traveling across the country and on vacations i would stop in liquor stores wherever i was going looking for diffrent beers. We would stop in restaurants and i would grab the beer lists and start trying local beers and talking to the bartenders about what is out there. Now im up to over 400 beers in my collection and im glad to say that i have tried them all. I save 1 bottle of everything that i try. I have tried some fantastic beers and i have had a few that i wouldnt give to my worst enemy. Thats what is fun about this hobby, you never know what you will find out there.
  22. Im going to be cooking with wild rice for the first time and i was wondering if there is anything i need to know or if anybody has any tips on it. The menu for Sunday is going to be. Grilled Cornish Game Hens with a Two Mustard Sauce Wild Rice and Mushroom pancakes Sauteed parsley carrots
  23. I highly reccomend this Rouge Morimoto Hazelnut..really nice creaminess and smoothness in the taste. I can see why the guy at the liquor store told me he as a hard time keeping it in stock. This stuff is incredible
