  1. Couldn't say it any better.
  2. I really like Cafe Ole a lot. One reason is because of how convenient it is for meto walk down the street and grab a glass of wine and tapas. Their tapas are pretty top rate and a little cheaper than most other tapas places in the area. The Lebanese Celabration is my favorite and I probably order it ever time I go there. I have also been getting the Mediteranian Lamb Salad a lot. Most tapas are in the range of $5-7. If it is nice out, they have a very large outdoor seating area. On Saturday nights they have a band come and play as well. It is usually Carribean or Spanish themed music. I usually can eat there for about $50 or less with wine which is why it is on the Washingtonian Cheap Eats pretty regularly. The only problem I have had in the past with this place is the service. Sometimes it is a bit "rough". But recently, they have had some new staff come and it has really improved. As far as comparing it with Bardeo, I'm not sure it really does because the atmosphere is completely different. Bardeo is really more of a swanky wine bar. You're not going to get the quality of wines at Cafe Ole that you can get at Bardeo. Also, You can go to Cafe Ole in your shorts if you want. It's really casual. They also allow you to bring your pets if you sit outside and they will give them a dish of water and pet treats.
  3. Jenny, I just realized that your avatar is a picture of a Billy Joel record. I'm so slow. Well, I don't have much to add because your original post pretty much sums it up. I'll just say that I agree with your praise of this place. It's a great wine bar and their tapas as as good if not better than just about any other place in the area. I think if Cafe Ole weren't right next store to me, I would be there a lot more often.
  4. My favorites are Spezie and Kuna. Has anyone tried Mama Maria's & Enzio's? I think some of you might be confusing Faccia Luna with this place. It's right across the street on the side of Sushi-Ko. I really want to try San Marco. I'm just never in the mood for Italian when I'm in Adams Morgan. From the recommendations here, I'm looking forward to it.
  5. Having worked in a restaurant as a bus boy, host, waiter and an ice cream scooper, etc, etc, I am very patient with wait staff. Most people I know that are really impatient with wait staff are people who have never worked in a restaurant. The fact is that there are so many things that can go wrong between the time the waiter takes your order and they bring your food out. More times than not, the mishap is not the waiters fault. There are some times though, that problems that arise are obviously the waiters fault, but no one is perfect. The only time I tip less than 20% is when it is obvious to me that the waiter is being lazy. Like when I have to wait 20 minutes for my check, because my waiter is socializing, and I am the only one in their section.
  6. The location in Largo is top-notch. I eat there for lunch quite often. The burgers are always fresh and juicy. However, most people don't go to Largo. I work there and even I forget where it is sometimes.
  7. Get anything with the hot salsa at Chipotle.
  8. Yes, I have been there - only once. Neisha is pretty typical for Thai places. I liked my meal but my wife did not like hers. So I would say it is pretty spotty. Honestly, it was a while ago that we went so we are due for another try. When we first went, they had just opened and we have not made it back since.
  9. You got me right. Mrs. DCFoodie's name is Amy. But I don't mind if you call her Mrs. DCFoodie. After being smacked repeatedly by Mrs. DCFoodie, I am told that you should refer to her as Amalah.
  10. Where else are you gonna get a tomato and mozzarella sandwich, as good as you can get here, as quick as you can here? I'm not saying it is the best you can get anywhere, but given the choice between Micky D's and Cosi, I choose Cosi. Plus - Smores. They're awesome!
  11. Wow. What a great event this was. THANK YOU MONICA FOR ORGANIZING THIS! I'm so full I could burst. Time to hit the treadmill and work of some of that tandoori chicken.
  12. I second that. My wife and I love this place. I especially love the wine tasting while you wait for your table.
  13. I'm there. My wife will attend as well.
  14. Spezie is wonderful Italian. Their web site is here. Check their menu out.
  15. Cafe Deluxe has half-price wine on Monday as well. Chef Geoffs does the same but it is only that LAST Monday of every month.
  16. When I was at Indique the other day I noticed this place. It will be hard to make the trip over to CP with Two Amy's around the corner from me. However, you know that since it is right by the Uptown, it will probably do well even if the food is horrible.
  17. That's too bad. I kind of liked Cities.
  18. I'm not sure what happened here, but I did not write this post. Perhaps I was posting in my sleep or something. My wife and I ate at Heritage India last night. I originally wanted to eat at Indique, but alas, no reservations available. Not that Heritage is any less favorable, but I really wanted to try Indique again. I hate that Indique is by the Uptown, because it is always soooo crowded. Guess I need to try planning ahead next time. I think I might try going there for lunch today. Heritage was wonderful as usual. I got the Lamb Korma which was probably the best I have ever had. My wife got the saag paneer and was not terribly impressed though. She prefers the saag paneer at Haandi. It might just be a matter of her taste though. Her comment was that it was too creamy and that the cheese was not firm enough. I also still can't get over the fact that Heritage charges you for rice, but the extra cost is worth it for the wonderful food. We'll definitely be going back, despite my wifes bad experience with the saag paneer. As a lover of Indian food, I am ashamed of the fact that I have not yet been to Bombay Club. I will have to try it.
  19. First of all, let me say thanks for the advice on my writing from someone who is obviously more knowledgable about the restaurant biz than I. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Your feedback is noted. I am only a software engineer who eats out A LOT. It took me some time to muster up some bravery to post links to it on a site like eG. I pretty much expected someone with culinary expertise to cut it apart and I was hoping for some feedback. As you determined from reading, I do tend to stick to good eats and not fine dining and as you stated earlier in your post, it does not make my opinion less relevant. Everyones opinion should matter, even if they are stating things that others have already covered. That is kind of the whole point of a discussion board. Many times restaurants open and they are great. Then they get reviewed and a lot of buzz. They can't handle the popularity and quality of food goes downhill. I would hope that people would continue to post their ongoing opinions about restaurants. I realized when I first posted in this thread that it was an old thread, but, I did not think that made it less relevant. And as I stated in the review on my site, the only reason I went to Komi was because I read the review in the post. That is no secret. No, I didn't discover Komi and I have not been to a lot of similiar restaurants like Cafe Atlantico, Palena, or Firefly. So maybe it is not just Komi, but this style of restaurant that I was commenting on. I have a big appetite, but you probably would not be able to tell from looking at me. If when I am eating at a place like Komi, I am supposed to order more than entree, then maybe they should not charge as much as they do for a single entree. Or perhaps, and this is just a perhaps, I should just stop eating so much, and let me stomach shrink down to its normal size. Maybe then the entrees at Komi will be enough for me.
  20. Red Ginger is definitely still open. I bus by it all the time on the way to Gtown.
  21. I am really surprised how few people put Il Pizzico on their list of favs. Maybe it is not as good now that Enzo has opened Spezie. It has been a year since I have been there, since I live in DC now. When I lived in Gaithersburg, these were my favorites in that area: Il Pizzico India Bistro PF Changs O'Brien's Pit Barbecue Melting Pot Lebanese Taverna
  22. It's better, although it's a bit more expensive and not just because of the 10% dining tax. However, it's well worth it.
  23. I would not exactly call it self promotion. If I have already written something about a restaurant, I am just going to link to it, just as if I had found an article on someone else's web site about it. Yeah, I know, convenient that a lot of my posts so far have been for places that I wrote reviews of on my site, but give me time...
  24. I found that Komi serves quality food but the portions were really small. I found I could have eaten at least three of their entrees. That being said, the preparation and presentation of the food was perfect and everything tasted great. Also the small entrees leave you with plenty of room for the homemade donuts which I highly recommend. Check out the Komi I wrote on my site.
