  1. Ah, yes, good point. Where else do you like the Cuban sandwiches in NYC?
  2. Perhaps we should have a law about the amount of perfume or cologne somebody can wear. The overuse of some of that stuff has ruined plenty of meals for me. Your liver might not get pickled by the effects of someone else's drinking, but you might die in a car accident as a result of that person's drinking, or a woman you know might get harassed, or worse, by a man who has been drinking (sorry, but it's much more common in that direction), or maybe you'll have a brawl picked with you which will result in a broken nose, or worse, or perhaps you'll get to experience a street full of garbage and broken glass after the barcrawlers finish with it in the middle of the night, etc., etc. It's absurd to continue to say that someone's drinking has no secondary effects on those around him/her.
  3. Well, how lovely to see you posting here, Mr. A. Just bring me my friggin' cigars.
  4. lest we not give credit where credit is due. That's not what I meant, dearest. I just wanted to add chicken fat to the "endangered species" list.
  5. I'll try to hit it tomorrow. Who's comin' ?
  6. Earlier in this thread I said something about hurrying up and eating chicken fat before it's criminalized...
  7. Let me add that Taza de Oro is a bit bigger, better service, nicer vibe in there, and more colorful atmosphere in general, and a larger menu. I haven't tried the sandwich there, but the food is good.
  8. I loved the big flat slabs of pickles in the sandwiches, and the sweetness of the jambon. I also liked that although the sandwich was hot, the cheese wasn't a goopy melted mess. Yum. I'd like to try the sandwich at Taza de Oro and compare... Big sandwich (we couldn't finish a whole one each) and a soda was $8.00 each, which included tax and tip.
  9. I'll try to provide some advance notice so we can all do a little dance of some kind to the appropriate gods.
  10. ummm....the food is different? seriously...two out of the three kids cook beautifully, and similarly to each other, but the third one (one of the sons, i won't say which), is just not as good. mind you, this is not about the pizza - that's dom and dom alone. this is about the other food, which is also wonderful. just a bit MORE wonderful when it isn't that particular son.
  11. I can tell which of Dominic's kids is in the kitchen at DiFara's without looking in.
  12. I have grids above my stove just like that. Between the cabinets and the stove. They're great.
  13. It's not like I don't have the opportunity to go with egullet groups - I'm actually planning on going with ONE PERSON, a non-egulleteer, if such a thing is imagineable.
  14. Lil' Frankie's. And LOTS of people love that place.
  15. I will, I will. Making plans. Busy life, ya know?
  16. I mean it. If I don't get to Blue Hill soon some weird geological phenomenon will take place.
  17. Similar to my experience, Matt. I loved the food, but the service was horrendous. I'll go back too, but not very soon. Or maybe soon-ish, but at an off hour...
  18. My mother bought lobsters in a market in Stamford, CT on Friday for $5.95 per pound, for 1 1/4 lbs lobsters. All who ate them (I wasn't there) reported that they were good.
  19. ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hot towels

I use baby wipes all the time, for everything. And in particular, they make toilet paper seem, er, quite primitive.
  21. Wilfrid, I asked the same question on another thread last week, and she answered. No idea what it was, however. Speaking of being more or less carniverous - did I eat anything you didn't? I don't think so...

    Dinner! 2002

Fatoosh is indeed a bread salad. , but it's mostly vegetables. I just threw the whole thing in the food processor, added some more veggies - onion, garlic - and vinegar, some hot sauce, some olive oil, and whooosh.
  23. I ate several pieces of potato, and enjoyed it. And I liked the goat stew very much. I have eaten those huge white corn kernels in other dishes, like cow's foot soup for example, and in those cases, they soaked up lots of flavor and the texture is appealing. I didn't understand the point of serving a plate of them with nothing at all. Bland doesn't begin to describe it.

  25. Oh yeah, capybaras are big. There's one at the Prospect Park Zoo, where I've been several times. Cute zoo in general - fantastic especially for younger kids.
