  1. I actually think the ISO... topic is a good idea, but give a chance after the weather warms up a bit. It's so cold still that I don't think a lot of people are going a lot of places.
  2. Jason and Rachel. You did a wonderful job organizing the meal, and very good menu choices. Wonderful evening.
  3. I was inspired by Jason's recent photographs to go to Wondee's twice this week. I had tried it a while back and thought it was rather bland, but either we ordered badly or they were having an off day -- I have changed my mind and thought the food was excellent.
  4. I don't think it COULD be a bigger flop than we think.
  5. I'm surprised to hear that about the chicken. I have had the chicken twice and thought it was excellent both times.
  6. I'd be interested if it's a night I'm free.
  7. I really miss the Afghan restaurant on Oak Tree Road. It was originally called "Afghan Grill" and changed the name to "Asian Grill" (I think) after 9/11 and before they closed.
  8. I've been to Koreanna a few times since they moved to Fort Lee, and I think it's still very good. I haven't been to any of the other Fort Lee restaurants though, so I can't tel you how they compare.
  9. I'll second the recommendation of Moghul in Edison (although it's a couple of years since I've been there). If you are looking for something further north, I still feel that Kinara in Edgewater has cooking about at the same level. Their web site is at http://www.kinararestaurant.com
  10. Thanks - I don't know why I assumed Japanese, but it did have a feeling of authenticity.

Maybe it's time for another egullet dinner there to pick things up?
  12. I believe that Gammiok (Main St., Fort Lee) is open 24 hrs. I went there once a few years ago. It is an unusual Japanese place with a very limited menu - probably some kind of Japanese fast-food place that belongs to some tradition I'm not familiar with.
  13. Mediterranian Armenian on Main Street in Fort Lee, was family-run and had a larger-than-average menu for a middle eastern restaurant.
  14. I drove past Mo'Pho yesterday, and they seem very close to opening. A neon sign in the window was lit and they have a 'help wanted' sign up.
  15. I've heard that John's Shanghai (Edgewater) has started serving Dim Sum on weekends. I have not tried it yet. I think that John's Shanghai is competitive in quality with China 46.
  16. Any chain that lists Beef Stroganoff as an American pasta dish has to be really strange (its on their web site).
  17. I found a link to a brief article link here
  18. Actually, I think it's $5 with ez-pass!

That seems to be the way they do it (I think Jason or someone mentioned it earlier). They had a number of dishes and 2 soups out as a buffet. They had a stand where the cooked dumplings fresh when you selected them, and they brought out a few more dishes after we sat down. The latter included the chicken in hot sauce, a dish with bean curd and vegetables, soup dumplings, and a plate of meat-filled dumplings. The soup I had was a beef and cabbage soup which tasted a lot like middle-european stuffed cabbage. We were offered ice cream when we were finished, but were too full to take them up on that.

I went for the Sunday brunch yesterday. Had a very good time, but I took too much food - I wanted to try everything, and I didn't realize how much they would be bringing around to the table later. The hit of the meal was a dish with chunks of chicken in a hot red sauce that they said was not on the menu. They looked as though they could use more customers, although the waiter said that the brunch is doing pretty well. He said the brunch hours are 11:00 to 3:00.
  21. Rachel - Keep the jello mold - I like it.
  22. Unless they know each other, in which case it's not a coincidence.

I'd be there often if they did dim sum.
  24. They are obviously in the process of re-designing the site. If you go there this morning, there is a whole new design, with several pages marked 'under construction'.
  25. I wish to thank everybody involved in organizing this extraordinary dinner. I second the motion to do it more often. It's hard to pick favorites. I vote for the noodles, the dumplings (all of them), the soup, the shrimp. and the duck. PS And I wish to complement Jason on the photographs.
