  1. That's "Carswell". Go to the Members page (link is near the top right of this page). At the bottom of the Members page, there is a search feature. Type Carswell in the box and hit enter. You will get a link to Carswell's member profile. Click on it. On the right of Carswell's profile page you will see a Profile Options box with links to "Find Member's Topics" and Find Member's Posts". Click on the latter. Sad to say, Carswell hasn't posted here since February. These days you'll find him sharing his vast knowledge of Montreal on "that other food board".
  2. Yeah, Nari reminds me of Rachel Ray too, only sincere. Will Travel Channel make her Kathy Lee to Tony's Regis? Only time will tell.
  3. Let me take you up on your offer with two questions. First, how hard is it to get into 112 Eatery? If I make reservations two weeks or more in advance would that be likely to secure us a table? Second, can you reccomend any places that serve Hmong food? My wife and I both like Vietnamese and we're curious as to how Hmong cooking may be different.
  4. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Our group's choice is likely to be Nye's which looks like a good place for a party. But my wife and I will have plenty of chances to dine on our own and we'll be usings your recs as our guide. I'll post my impressions of our trip when we return. Thanks again!
  5. They were looking for moderately priced restaurants that would take a group and were close to our hotel. A fair number of people in our group are not foodies. Not being familiar with this board, they used City Search as a source of reviews.
  6. A group of 15 of us are coming to Minneapolis in late July. The persons organizing our get together have compiled a list of places for us to dine as a group. We've got a week to research the suggestions and vote for the place we would most like to eat. Since this is my first visit to the Twin Cities, I turn to you, my fellow Gulleteers to guide me in my choice. Here's the list: Charley's Restaurant at the Depot 225 3rd Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55401-2524 (612) 758-7826 Sawatdee 607 Washington Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55415 (612) 338-6451 The Old Spaghetti Factory 233 Park Ave Minneapolis, MN 55415-1148 (612) 341-0949 Basil's Restaurant 710 Marquette Ave Minneapolis, MN 55402 (612) 376-7404 Nye's Polonaise Room 112 E Hennepin Ave Minneapolis, MN 55414-1012 (612) 379-2021 Bombay Bistro 820 Marquette Ave Minneapolis, MN 55402 (612) 312-2800 Keegan’s Irish Pub 16 University Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 (612) 252-0880 Gardens of Salonica 19 5th St NE Minneapolis, MN 55413-2225 (612) 378-0611 Fri-Sat 11am-10pm Monte Carlo Bar & Cafe 219 3RD Ave N Minneapolis, MN 55401-1401 (612) 333-5900
  7. I'd book in advance at any "name" restaurant in Montreal during festival season.
  8. For funky Chinese (intestines, tripe, shrimp with the heads intact), there's South Garden in Merrimack.
  9. Here's a map. Jean Talon Market is the largest farmer's market in North America. Montreal Public Markets Havre aux Glaces 7070 HENRI JULIEN (514) 278-8696
  10. La Chronique offers fine dining (French). They had a seafood tasting menu back in April, but I would not characterize them as a mainly seafood restaurant. Here is a link to their website with their current menu. My French is terrible. When I want to read a French menu, I copy and paste the text into Google's translator page.
  11. If you like excellent food, stay away from every place in your original post and pore over this forum. That Kids in the Hall line is the equivalent of "The only celebrity I would love to bump into in Australia is Crocodile Dundee, which is unlikely!" Too funny. ← Do you mean that to apply to Les Chevres as well?
  12. Haven't eaten at Jardin Nelson, so I can't really comment. Buona Notte is good if you care more about celeb sightings than food. For good Asian Vegetarian, I would go to Chu Chai. Milos is an excellent, though expensive choice for seafood. You may also wish to consider Ferreira (high-end Portugese) for great grilled fish and the normally meat-heavy Au Pied de Cochon is doing their magnificent seafood platters now thru September. Hope you have a wonderful time in Montreal.
  13. Maestro S.V.P. is nothing special. Get your oyster fix at Joe Beef. Also APdC may be doing their seafood platters by now. Personally, I would choose Brunoise over L'Express any day of the week, but really, they are very different dining experiences. L'Express is a classic French Bistro while Brunoise is a great neighborhood resto that does French market cooking at a reasonable price (though it is creeping up and up). If bistro is what you want, then go with L'Express (though some people say Le Continental, just up the street, is better).
  14. Who is Grill Bitch? ← Beth Aretsky, Tony's former Chef Grillardin at Les Halles. Tony immortalized her in his book Kitchen Confidential. "Grill Bitch" is how she refers to herself. She even uses it on her business cards.
  15. Probably too recent... buzz is that Anthony actually has a cameo and is credited as "the saucier" ← Compared to who?
  16. Tony introduced her as "the artist formerly known as The Grill Bitch".
  17. Just saw the Quebec episode. All I can say is BEST SHOW EVER! My wife and I ate at Au Pied de Cochon 3 years ago when we were in Montreal for our honeymoon. Seeing Tony eat there brought back for us all the excitement, the energy, and the gleeful excess of that amazing restaurant. And the meal with the Inuit was the most remarkable thing I have ever seen on television. This episode really and truly lived up to the series title "No Reservations". Keep up the astounding work, Tony and crew!
  18. Let me encourage you to try Anise. It is a wonderful place for an anniversary dinner. It is a very feminine restaurant. Its décor is simple, elegant, and soothing. Racha Bassoul’s cooking is very subtle and refined, her use of spice very restrained. The house cocktail, sparkling wine with house-made violet syrup, is perfect for a romantic toast. I took my wife there last Valentine’s day and it was one of the best meals of our lives. For Sunday, I would suggest one of the upscale BYOWs such as AL’Os, O’Thym or Les Infideles.
  19. The last time I sat in that chair, I kept getting elbowed by the server slicing the country bread.
  20. Plus APDC has excellent beers, such as St-Ambroise, on tap.
  21. Au Pied de Cochon is open 5pm to midnight every day except Monday. Au Pied de Cochon's Website
  22. What is the URL?
  23. In Burlington, check out L'Amante for upscale Italian. I love the squash blossom fritters and the Penne Bolonese. I probably won't be the only person to reccomend A Single Pebble, a Chinese restaurant in Burlington regarded by many as the best restaurant in Vermont.
  24. I started this thread by saying that I missed APDC website because it would remind me of the good times I had at the restaurant. This new site fullfills that function for me. While I agree that web sites should first and foremost inform, I find myself more charmed than annoyed by this particular site. I'm tickled by the eccentricity and the photos tell me what kind of food is served as well as something about the atmosphere. But, this subjective reaction aside, I do agree that a menu with prices is what's needed. Finally, I would like to point out to those are a little too free and easy with their perjoratives, that most brochures are expensive to produce and that cheap shots are often a sign of lazy thinking.
  25. The old site had no wine list and a menu that they never, ever updated. My guess is that they favor a low maintenance site that still gives people a good idea of the ambiance and the food served.
