  1. Did you post a recipe for this anywhere? It looks wonderful! Please send some samples or something! LOL!!!
  2. Where to begin..... One of my friends frequently makes herself egg sandwiches for breakfast. She lays the eggs the same way on the bread each time, starts at a certain corner of the sandwich and cuts each bite in a certain order every time! When I serve white rice, my three kids and I sprinkle sugar on the rice. That's the only way we eat it. My husband thinks that's disgusting, my kids think it's the only way (they're 14, 13, and 9 yrs. old). I have NEVER eaten ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise. Mayonnaise has to be one of the worst things on the planet. Just the thought disgusts me. Thus, I have never eaten egg salad, tuna salad, or chicken salad. When I eat something, I spot the best french fry, potato chip, onion ring, corner of steak, crispiest edge (you get the idea) and I have to eat it last. I have a bunch of oddities when it comes to food. this one may not be odd, but I love vanilla ice cream with orange juice poured on it!
  3. My sister, who is a nurse, told me of an interesting dessert she had at the hospital cafeteria. When she arrived in the cafeteria for lunch, everyone was "oohing" and "ahhing" over this beautiful chocolate cake, with white icing, displayed on a crystal platter at the end of the serving line. She made sure to get in line so she could get a piece of this beautiful cake. Upon finishing her lunch, she decided to dig in to the cake. At first bite, she spit it out and said "Oh, my God!" At the same time, she noticed others in the cafeteria with a very similar reaction to the cake. Something was definitely wrong with that icing. They had to know what was in the icing, so one brave employee went to the lovely young lady who had proudly displayed her cake creation--she asked her "how she made her icing". She proudly replied that she had used mayonnaise and cool whip mixed together -- NO LIE!! I wonder if anyone ordered a psych consult for this girl?
  4. Does anyone remember Burger Chef? When I was a kid, that was the place to go. Their hamburgers were better tasting than McDonalds. I guess they were eventually phased out.
  5. I absolutely relish vanilla ice cream with orange juice poured over it. My husband and kids don't appreciate it, neither does anyone else I mention it to, but I love it! Now if you try it, don't make the mistake of using vanilla bean ice cream. (Sorry to those of you who think there is no other vanilla ice cream). Breyers vanilla bean ruins this treat! UGHHHHHHH!
  6. I was laughing so hard reading these stories, I thought my son was going to call 911 for someone to come and take me away. This is definitely not the worst meal on this post, but we were visiting a pastor's home and they served us tri-colored pasta with a jarred cheese sauce over it. It was warming to the belly, but unappealing. They were so enamored with this "meal", I started to think something was wrong with me. The "best" part, the pastor was feeding my son (approx. 1 yr. old) from his plate. What could I say? "We don't want him eating from your plate" ?? I heard another story from a lady who had a visiting preacher in her home. He was apparently a "big wig" in the church organization. Anyway she served some sort of chicken "balls". I got the impression that they were similar to a croquet (spelling). Anyway, when she served the preacher, she noticed that a strand of her long hair was suspended through and through the pastor's chicken ball. She spent several seconds agonizing over whether or not to tell him. Well, she did tell him and do you know that the preacher would not let her replace it? Instead, they attempted with much effort to pull the hair out of the chicken ball. I have to assume that part of the hair was left in the middle, and that the preacher ate it. I hope he prayed over his meal that day.
  7. Is this person really your friend? Maybe it's a setup!! Those raw eggs definitely don't cut it!! Too Risky!! I make a from scratch, no-bake cheesecake. It was my grandmother's favorite dessert. It comes out light and fluffy. No eggs in it, though. You better tell your friend to find another recipe or another cook.
  8. I rarely post, but after reading the "ultimate chocolate cake" posts, I'm wondering about the ultimate chocolate frosting, filling or whatever the experts call it. Something fudgy would be absolutely awesome. I went to Macaroni Grill for Mother's Day. My kids ordered ice cream with chocolate sauce. Didn't sound so extraordinary, but I did taste it. The chocolate "sauce" was delightful!! It was more fudgy than saucy. Now I can't get that taste out of my head. What do you guys have out there for topping this cake?
  9. Hey Ladybug! You're sure getting your props here!! All I can say is when we come to preach at your church, I better get basket with EVERYTHING! Popcorn, covered nuts, marshmallows, cookies, rice krispie treats (dipped in chocolate, of course), mints, water, oh yeah AND Barbeque............Ha! Ha! Ha! I had an idea, too. If the visiting minister has children, you may include a candy treat of some kind (lollipops, licorice...), or even cookie pops. I think what you're doing is awesome!!
  10. Have we really lost our minds?? I guess I am quite a wimp when it comes to trying anything "different". Perhaps the most bizarre thing I ever ate was boiled peanuts, which my college roommate brought from Florida. Beyond that, I'm not too adventurous. I tried deer meat, but couldn't get past the fact that it was indeed deer meat. I read a magazine article written by Mary Tyler Moore entitled "I Never Eat Anything With A Face". After reading some of these posts, it's not a bad idea. Hats off to those of you who are sooooo brave!!
  11. When I serve white rice for dinner, my kids and I MUST have sugar on it!! It's a bad habit I taught my kids. I usually cook the rice w/butter, so it's already there. Sugar is sprinkled on at the table. My husband thinks we're all very weird!! I, too, grew up eating warmed leftover rice, milk and sugar for breakfast!! I think we're very normal!! Maybe my husband's the weird one!!

    Dinner! 2004

I roasted a turkey today. Call it a late Thanksgiving. Had to get that turkey out of my freezer! Well my husband brought home BOXED stuffing to go with it!! Boxed isn't exactly my favorite (AT ALL), but I was out of time to fool with REAL stuffing. So, I sauteed onion and celery in butter, cooked the stuffing in chicken broth, added the onion/celery and seasoned it with poultry seasoning. I must say, it was good! I "doctor up" just about everything. My NINE YEAR OLD actually complimented me on the stuffing. He doesn't usually care for stuffing one way or the other, so I considered that quite an honor!
