...... consider how much demand there will be early on and the fact that you'll probably be getting ultra fresh stuff that hasn't sat around at all.
I think we may have hit upon something here.
Except for Josephson's smoked delights, I haven't bought salmon for better than 30 years.
I satisfy my salmon jones when I'm in Oregon.
Then, we just about eat ourselves sick on the stuff my buddy brings home (usually the extremely rich whites).
And that stuff is never over 3 hours off the boat!
Maybe it's not their genetics.
Maybe it's not the special diet they enjoy over lesser salmon!
Maybe, with all the CRS fanfare and hoopla, the demand created results in the freshest salmon most people will come across.

little klong-lined town I remember has changed...see http://thomasriddle.net/index.html for some panoramic shots.
Actually, the town has changed since those pictures.
Sadly, the Siam Intercontinental has been torn down to make room for the Paragon; a new mega shopping center.
Just what Bangkok needs!

Here's a scan showing some of my recs for Bangkok.
Yok Yor Marina and Restaurant has great food and a wonderful dinner show.
MBK's 6th floor foodcourt is a good spot to expose a first timer to hawker food.
Because it's inside, it seems more "hygienic"!
At least it is air conditioned.
Kaiton is my favorite for khao mun kai (chicken rice).
Lek Seafood, although now dicovered by those dreaded farang, has good seafood at great prices.
You can still pack it away for a couple hundred baht per person (food).
This photo is taken from the rear of Lek, facing towards the Skytrain stop.
"Pu pad pong kari" (curried crab) is my favorite spot for the dish.
The shop is across from the Lumpini Police station.

I like khanom buang.
It's the little, crispy, browned, crepe looking things, silver dollar sized to the size of a tortilla.
Sometimes they're flat, folded or "pinched".
They are filled will a cream and other assorted"sprinkles.
You'll find them all over, around hawker haunts.

Unfortunately, to "the experts", one's ethnicity and/or experience is considered "irrelevant" compared to their "knowledge".
-
I always question "experts" on "all cuisines".

The original link will still work.
It goes to a portal that gives a choice of HTML or Flash.
-
Mrs. Stupid just finished her FLASH version of my site.
It takes a little time to load, but I think it's worth the wait!
Cheap Eats Flash Extravaganza!
The old URL will give you a choice of HTML or Flash.

Thanks.
That's my 3-year-old niece, "The Prim Monster!"

Yuca's is up.
Went there; done that; it was great!
Portos is a bit out of my focus area.
I have thrown in a few things around Disneyland.
Disneyland is often considered part of a visit to LA.
I posted Thai Nakorn, and because of a percieved rivalry, I included Renu Nakorn
My better half has decided to "upgrade" my site.
Stay tuned for the new, improved Cheap Eats Extravaganza!

Yes, Pink's is touristy.
But, La Brea might get passed by, so I did it.
Hollywood Bl is one place after another.
I'm really avoiding most places, unless they are a bit off the shiny path.
Most people will do Hollywood Bl and encounter Skooby's.
Someday, between bahn mi and pho, I believe Vietnamese will catch up to Thai for trendiness.
Half my inlaws are from Vietnam, and I spend too much time in Little Saigon.
I going avoid Vietnamese on my site.
I will definitely try to hit Yuca's.
It looks like my kind of place.
Haven't got a chance to eat there yet.
Thanks,
Curt

Damn!
It's been a good 30 years since I got me some education.
I needed that!
Consulted my Strunk and White's and made some concessions.
But, since my Olvera Street is the one in my picture, I'll stick with Olvera.
My site is for entertainment and fun.
-
Thanks for the heads up Carolyn.
Although I am the "Stupid_American", I can't believe I blew "included".
"Olvera"? You got me.
I'm winging the spelling and grammar; I have no software to check it.
I use no software to build the site either.
Everything is straight HTML.
Thai [is] far too trendy.
My wife is Thai, I live in Bangkok a couple months each year, yet I've been told I know squat about the cuisine.
With the exception of Thai Nakorn, Renu Nakorn and Wat Thai, I'm avoiding Thai joints.
But, there's a percieved rivalry between Renu and Thai Nakorn, and Wat Thai is somewhat unique.
I may pull Burrell's. [pulled]
BBQ suffers the same curse as Thai.
For sights, I'm really shooting for the more eclectic.
I'm going more for stuff like the Bodhi Tree [Carolyn, you'd love it!] and La Luz de Jesus.
I can spend hours at either, but I've never seen them in any guides.
I may toss in my "No Cost" Disneyland Tour, but it needs some text.
I don't know if I will have time to write anything for it.
Now I have to proof this site!
Thanks for suggestions.
I will try to check them out.
Before I add something, I need to experience it.
Because I live in Orange County, this might take some time.

Thanks
Finally took a photo and uploaded Clifton's.
Angeli is a bit steep.
I'm passing on most of the "tourist strip" places.
Skooby's is smack dab in the middle of the Hollywierd strip.
Although it's a bit outside the territory, I'll try to look into Hungry Fox.
-
I'm doing a website of some of the LA area's eateries and sights.
My concentration is basically from the East LA Interchange to Rodeo Drive, Dodger Stadium to I-10.
It's really aimed at the budget traveler more than the local diner.
I'm going for the places that may really don't show up in most guidebooks.
These are all places I've tried and survived!
I've just started.
I have more pages awaiting photos.
I'm always up for ideas for more spots.
If I've tried it, I'll do a photo and post it.
If not, I'll try to check it out.
Sorry about the gratuitous "babe" shot!

There's a pack of "chowhounds" planning to "stake out" an area at the Wat Thai "water festival".

Places like Thaitown, Farmer's Market, Sunset & Hollywierd Blvds, and the like, could be pages of their own.
Right now, I'm just drawing up a sampling to get people started.
I could mention Palms Thai, for Kevin, the Thai Elvis.
But,I don't even want to name a Thai joint.
Nothing fires up the know-it-alls like Thai food!
-
Here's a list of farmer's markets.
-
Where will you be staying?
It might help for more specific suggestions.
-
Two casual eateries that I always recommend are Point Loma Seafood and Boll Weevil.
Point Loma Seafood is on Emerson, just off Scott, between Harbor Island and Shelter Island.
It's seafood about as freash as it gets.
There are numerous Boll Weevils around the San Diego area.
The serve a plain, fresh, 1/2 pound burger (smaller available), that you dress to your liking from the relish tray brought to your table.

I was looking for the one on Fairfax.
Oki Dog, huh?
That might explain the problems I had with searches!
Although it's far from "all encompassing", this is the page.
It's still a work in progress.
I'll correct the spelling on the next incarnation.
I'm pretty much passing on the main boulevard "strips".
And, I'm avoiding bars and clubs.
I think people will cover those on their own.
I'm shooting for the cheaper, lesser known, side-street stuff.
Any other ideas?
Thanks
-
I believe the cross street is Willoughby, but I can't remember if it's on La Brea or Fairfax.
Anyone have the street address?
I haven't been there in decades!
I'm working on an eclectic/cheap eats/greasy spoon/wierd sights webpage for the budget traveler/tourist.
Any rec for the greater Hollywierd area?
My map runs from Hollywood Blvd to Olympic, La Cienega to Vermont.
Because Hollywood Blvd "Central" is a sight in itself, I'm not highlighting its individual spots.
I have a bunch, but I'm sure I'll miss something.
Aaahhh Okie Dog,....pass the Tums!
Thanks!

I spend a couple months in Bangkok, each year.
Unfortunately, I'm not due again until December ~ February.
If you head over, I will be glad to offer my suggestions, including a shop in Yannawa, a district of Bangkok, that prepares only rad na and pad see ewe.
Copper River Salmon
in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Cooking & Baking
Posted · Edited by Stupid_American (log)
In So.California, it's been noted that Whole Foods is already selling "Copper River Salmon"!
Don't know any buyers buying whites.
Probably farm raised without being dyed.
Have you tried it?
How's it priced compared to "regular" salmon?
