  1. Your blood pressure would probably go way down if you'd stop worrying that the "vast majority" of the readers of this survey are not as smart as you. What are you talking about my blood pressure for? Well you for one needed my help to work this out. Anyway, what is "objectively 'best'" supposed to mean? 'Best' is an objective term, which is why I am against its misleading misuse. 'Best restaurant' is not the same as the subjective 'favourite restaurant', or the qualified 'I think it's the best restaurant'.
  2. Oh and while I remember, the same family had carpet in the kitchen, bathroom, and toilet! Each was, in its own way heavily discoloured.
  3. And how old are you now? Is this supposed to be funny? If so, can someone please explain it to me?
  4. In Spain the English have a reputation for uncleanliness second only to the French. In fact we have a joke, "Where do you hide something from and English/Frenchman?" "Under the soap". As as a 16 year old student of English, I was sent to spend 5 weeks with an English family near Brighton. I was used to showering daily, they had no shower. Instead they bathed weekly, and all used the same bathwater, and expected me to do the same. I just couldn't bring myself to do it and ended up going to the local swimming pool every day. Oh, and the food was even worse.
  5. Restaurant Magazine can do what they want, but I think their use of 'best' is very misleading. There are a lot of people who don't bother to examine the selection criteria, the kind of people who recieve their information from the press second hand via abridged versions of the the original feature. This means that as a result, the vast majority of those who hear that French Laundry is Restaurant Magazine's 'best' restaurant in the world, are under the impression that it actually is the 'best' restaurant in the world; Is it? If the answer is 'no', or 'can't answer that question' etc., then the poll is misleading. As I said before this is due to the use of the categorical (and untrue) term, '50 Best Restaurants in the World'. Put simply, it's dishonest to claim that this poll provides this information.
  6. If we are to continue to debate this subject it will require that we remain civil to one another, not mis-represent the arguement as it has so far played out and not pre-suppose what others may or may not think. Please, I don't mean to be uncivil, forgive me. What I'm saying is that I understand why you, having close links with the magazine, being a voter, being present at the ceremony etc. might find it uncomfortable to then criticize the voting procedure. However, Oakapple does not have this excuse, so why the total lack of objectivity?

Oustaù de Baumanière in Les Baux-de-Provence is not a million kms away.
  8. I agree---it's actually a whole lot clearer. And pace Marcus's hand-wringing, it's just as relevant as any other restaurant-rating system. It's just another data point. I can understand why, as a voter, A.Lynes willfully ignores that despite its informal, and admittedly crap voting system, Restaurant Magazine still misleadingly purports to present a ranked list of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World. What's your excuse?
  9. The fact that restaurant magazine have managed to get together some of the big names for its awards gives the top50 a veneer of respectability. Nevertheless, from a methodological perspective the results are meaningless, because there is NO methodology. Therefore, when the Daily Mail report that Fat Duck is the 2nd best restaurant in the world they are basing their claims on what is essentially an unsound straw poll of 300 individuals who cannot be in a position to answer the question "what is the world's best restaurant", because, as everybody knows, the only answer is "I don't know, I haven't eaten in all of them". Consequently, the Daily Mail is perpetuating an untruth generated by Restarant Magazine's misleading (50 best restaurants in the world) choice of name for their feature. In fact, if it was called, "50 restaurants collated from a list of 300 foodie top 5s", I don't think there would be any argument here today. Of course, it sounds shit though, and I doubt it would tempt T.Keller to cross the Atlantic .
  10. With 50 nominated films, it's highly unlikely that actually happens however. What are you talking about? Movie people like movies; they eat drink and sleep them. Movie people don't watch movies in order to vote at the academy, they watch them because it's their business to watch them.
  11. I don't go to Antonys yet, but if it does piss on the Fat Duck that would make it the joint best restaurant in the world according to a British Magazine. The Fat Duck is the second best restaurant in the world after French Laundry and before El Bulli.
  12. We call this the Seta de San Jorge, and they're really quite easy to find yourself, not like truffles for example. Why don't you buy a book and go look for some?
  13. Because it's not like every other article you've read? Creativity is pretetious to anyone who finds the world good enough as it is. There's no missed opportunity when one tries to do anything. Just because Adria has re-defined the formal conventions of his medium, it doesn't follow that the writers of this article need, or have the talent, to do the same. I'm interested in Adria, not in Day & Pomerance and how they think they can improve the written medium.
  14. Quite pretentious, and a missed opportunity. Why the absurd format? Why so little text? I'm really disappointed.
  15. But the context differs, and this is far more important.
  16. Went by yesterday. Reminded me of Pret á Manger in U.K., little evidence of Ferran's food style. Quite like Armani Jeans, in this sense.
  17. Hi victor I thought to take your advice and see h blumenthal at madrid fusion but when I phone they say me that he is not on the programme? But he is on their web.
  18. Hi. I can second casa gerardo. Also there are two good places in arriondas: casa marical, and el corral del indianu, but I would still prefer casa gerardo.
