I gave mine a pedicure. Many of my friends already thought they were gross, so I thought I'd soften the scariness a bit. Those look great! I will reduce the cooking time when I make them again. The ones this time were coming off the bones too easily. I miss the bit of chew!

@heidih: Can't remember what previous chicken feet were like. These seemed shorter on the "handle"? Used to get them from the Hutterite colony close by. Don't have any contacts these days. Will have to check next time I go to the big Chinese supermarket. I remember tying several up one Halloween and hung it on my neighbor's mailbox. Freaked her out! 😆 A friend gave me a container of Schawarma seasoning. I marinated chicken breasts and had plans to grill on the BBQ. But it was blowing with gale force winds then snow! So I grilled stove top then finished in the oven. Eaten with peas and mint in Basmati rice and stir-fried mixed vegetables.

Kung Po Gai for supper last night, using up the leftover Crudités from the princesses' visit Then I put my life at risk making dim sum style braised chicken feet! Luckily, I had a huge wok with a big lid as the feet splattered like crazy even though I fried them really well first. I remember then why I deep fried them outside on a turkey fryer in the past! The fried feet were dunked into ice water, then braised in black bean garlic chili sauce in the Instant Pot. They were maybe over cooked at 30 minutes and natural release, but so lip smacking delicious!

When the granddaughters come for the day. all they want for supper is noodles! So noodles it is! The youngest and goofiest princess! They actually want JUST noodles. I added beef and beansprouts to the adults' version. I also had some dim sum items: store bought har gow, xiao lung baos, and I made sticky rice in lotus leaf. They each have their preferences, and Nana aims to please when we have these rare gatherings.

Son and daughter are out from the city. Cooked one of our family's favourite comfort foods: Beef, tomato and egg with lots of rice! Saved a container to send back with him to our daughter.

Thai Coconut Curry Lamb Shanks - one pot cooking = Instant Pot. Luckily, everything was ready and being consumed when the power went off! There was a pole fire not far from our section of the city. +500 customers affected. They estimated 3 hours for repairs, but they surprised us with their swiftness. Power was restored in 45 minutes. We enjoyed our supper with candlelight. Naan was also present to sop up the plate (store bought frozen)

Deep fried whole pickerel with a sweet & sour sauce (pineapple, bell peppers, onion, tomato, rice vinegar, ketsup!, chili mango sauce, lemon juice and sugar to add a bit of sweetness). A nice change up from steamed with ginger and onion. Then I spent the rest of the night making up Char Siu Baos. Son and daughter are coming out from Winnipeg, so will send some back with the "left behinds"

    Dinner 2021

Played in the kitchen yesterday! De-boned and stuffed chicken wings. man! Tedious job as the wings were smaller than what I'd like, but better portion control 😏 I made a bunch and cooked up 5. Put the rest into the freezer. Still had filling left. Stuffed some large shrimp and wrapped them in egg roll wrappers. Too big for wonton wrappers. Still had a bit of filling left, so I did the rest with wonton wrappers. Deep fried in a big wok! The assortment The stuffed wings Had Moo Gua soup earlier And did up a pack of country-style ribs as Char Siu for baos later...

    Dinner 2021

Lovely day for a drive out to our house on the old family farm. Got home in time to throw in some Yorkshire puddings. I made in mini pie plates so I wouldn't have to use a 12 muffin tin to make 4. Had a small tenderloin roast and that cooked up quick at 475F. Resting took it beyond the medium we like, but it was still pretty good. Stir-fried white and fresh shitaki mushrooms with peppers and zuchinni. Sweet taters were cooked with the Yorkies.

    Dinner 2021

Local little Chinese grocery had live oysters just in. I have never bought them in the shell before, but in my moment of madness, I bought 12. I didn't even have an oyster knife! A friend told me to warm them up in the oven for a few minutes, and they will open just enough for me to get a tool in. It worked! I still had to work for it tho'. Got 6 ready and baked them with cream cheese /herbs with a bit of chili sauce and lemon juice. Topped with butter bread crumbs. They were good and made the struggle worthwhile. More seafood for supper: Bouillabaisse with pickerel, scallops, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Toasted sourdough bread to sop up what broth was left from spooning! "I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopus's garden in the shade"

Shrimp seemed to be making a frequent appearance on here lately. Spicy Shrimp ( and a few scallops) and Creamy Cheesy Grits: Hubby is not used to eating savoury grits, but ate it! He prefers his for breakfast with milk and brown sugar. Crunchy Oven-baked drumsticks - done in the air-fryer. Used the Kewpie Deep Roasted Sesame dressing as a dip It was lovely. Sides: turnip fries and mixed veg.

Caribbean Beef Stew with Coconut Brown Basmati Rice - from Weight Watchers Cook Up Comfort cookbook. Need to try to flatten this Covid weight gain...again! This is a make again recipe. Used a blade steak from the freezer, marinated with Jerk Paste (called for jerk spice but none in the pantry), browned with onion & garlic, added canned diced tomato, beef broth, simmered for 50 minutes. Added cubed sweet potato and green beans and simmered another 10 minutes.

    Dinner 2021

I had planned a Caribbean Beef Stew for supper, but my cousin dropped off ANOTHER TWO packages of the Costco Kirkland Polish Beef Sausages! I still have 2 pks of 15 sausages each all separated and frozen in the freezer. So that's what we had for supper. Not sure why they are labeled sausages when they are wieners. These are the ones they serve at the Costco food counters. I love raw onions with mine, but hubby likes them slightly cooked. Sweet and Spicy mustard, mixed veg, and oven baked potato wedges = satisfying supper. Tomorrow - dropping off a pkg to our son and family, and some to other friends. As much as we enjoy these as hot dogs, too much of a good thing will spoil hot dogs over a camp fire!

@Ann_T Halibut's the bomb in any shape and form! Envious of your fresh source. It's quite expensive on the prairies, but I do pick it up whenever it's "on sale". @rotuts and @chromedome: Have never tried salmon or lobster in Fish and chips. Can frozen lobster work? Split the tail in half or use smaller ones? Sounds delicious! With leftover wonton filling (pork, shrimp, waterchestnuts), I made one of my favourite: spicy tofu with eggplant and pork. Not sure I can call it Mapo Tofu but it was good over rice.

    Lunch 2021

A good friend had a hernia operation down in her diaphragm a week ago. Had been on pureed food until now, and was craving for some wonton soup and congee with pickerel and ginger.. So I did up a care package or two and delivered it to her house - no-contact delivery, of course. She can keep some out for supper and lunch tomorrow and the rest will go into her freezer. There was still some congee and several wontons left, but not enough of each to make a complete serving for each of us at home. So I threw the wontons into the congee, added century egg, fuyu, pork floss, pickled radish, and voila! a new combo for Al Yankovic's Wong Way Kitchen! 🤪 "Hello, Welcome to Wong Way Kitchen. I take your order please? I highly recommend the combo #5! Yeah! Combo 1,2, ah 3,4,5 Everybody loves Chinese steamed or fried, from the Chinese restaurant around the corner, so you say you want some won-ton soup, I’ll bring your order

As @liuzhou and @MokaPot said, abalone needs to be tenderized or slow cooking. I shucked, cleaned, and blanched the little abalone in hot water for a few minutes. The 10 little fellas and re-hydrated Shitaki mushrooms went into the liner pot of the Instant Pot with sauteed garlic, ginger slices, mushroom soaking liquid, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and cooking wine. The whole lot was cooked for 50 minutes on high pressure. Everything was just tender, and each abalone was 2 bites! I also had some scallops on the shell to cook up. These were steamed on a rack in the wok with the Shanghai Bok Choy . The liquid from the abalone was perfect, thickened with cornstarch slurry. There wasn't much flavour to the abalone other than from the braising liquid. I was dreaming about the fresh baby abalone we enjoyed at a seafood buffet on the 15th floor of our hotel in Soeul, but alas, the ones I cooked didn't quite measure up.😉
