Sadly, I don't, but I'll leave a message for a friend who still has (Polish) relatives there. John (the Hot Dog Guy) might also have some ideas--you can PM him off of one of his posts on the eG Hot Dog Run thread.

No clue, but there are a lot of Polish butchers and kielbasa makers in Bayonne! Would they know what you're talking about?

A friend with a VERY respectable palate has told me time and time again that this is his favorite place in northern NJ (and yes--GULP--he's been to Fascino). His fiancee is from Italy and they say that nothing beats it and that every time they go back it's even better than they remembered. I'll be very curious to hear your comments after you go and I hope you'll start a thread on the place. Enjoy!!

Well, I was in the Montclair WF last night and they didn't have it, which was a MAJOR disappointment...this thread got me all psyched to try it!!
-
Yes, I'm PLANNING (unofficially, of course) on getting back there ASAP with my fellow foodies. And of course, everyone should remember that The Jeff is participating in the Hudson Restaurant Week promo!

Adega Grill, which is in the Ironbound (Portuguese/Brazilian/Spanish) section of Newark, is a terrific restaurant that has a lounge attached; the lounge is VERY legit club-looking--and nothing like the decor of the restaurant. I'm told the place is HOPPING on the weekends. Here's the thread about Adega Grill.

Thought I'd bump this up and share the Wine Library's sale page... Happy shopping!

Perhaps for Charlotte this is decent food, but (and I really mean this in a kind way) in northern NJ, you have so many REAL Chinese restaurants, I can't imagine why you'd go to a chain (if they even have them here)...might I suggest you hop up to China 46 for some really great food?!? The link to the C46 thread (with great pics) is here but there are plenty of other spots in northern NJ as well. Do a search at the bottom of the page for Chinese in the NJ forum and you'll see what I mean!

Let them know they can send my commission any time they're ready... And fwiw, that's the first time I had been on the 101C site; it was linked off of The Food Section as an article about the Fancy Food Show. Then the fig jam caught my eye, and it was all over...

Glenn- Just read about Dalmatia Fig Spread with Orange on the 101 Cookbooks blog and thought you might like to know about it!

My co-worker who lives a block from The Jeff just came in to tell me that he and his fiance went in there on Sunday once the snow let up. And I quote "We love that place!" This time, they sat at a table, but he said the food was excellent, as was the wine. Oh, and it's all my fault.

Yeah, except that it EASILY feeds 2 or 3 people!!!

Dunno, but the survey for favorite restaurants was included in this issue...

Sorry, Menton, but I don't think it's that local! CJ's and Fat Boys in Madison are just two examples of Morris Cty delis offering them... According to one of the on-line etymology dictionaries: sloppy 1727, "muddy," from slop (q.v.). Meaning "loose, ill-fitting" is first recorded 1825, influenced by slop "loose outer garment" (1376), which is probably from M.Du. slop. Hence, also, slop-shop (1723). Sloppy Joe was originally "loose-fitting sweater worn by girls" (1942); as a name for a kind of spiced hamburger, it is attested from 1961. That certainly explains the SLOPPY part!!!

...and they're definitely not serving these in a legit Kosher deli!!

The thing I don't get is why they bothered to include the stars. I don't care if they think that a place has great ____, but then why not write a few sentences about each of the places that has great ____ instead of mini-reviews of 10 (overall) 1 and 2-star restaurants? The big list of 37 is just that--a list with addresses. Not losing sleep over it; just thought I'd share.
-
Actually, some of them ARE tableclothed places (i.e., Mignon)!!!

The Feb issue of NJ Monthly features a cover story entitled Comfort Food 37 restaurants show off their traditional favorites to warm your soul Maybe Rosie can enlighten us as to why the ten places featured are all 1, 1.5 and 2 star-rated places?!? Forgive me--there is one 2.5 starred spot highlighted--La Riviera Trattoria in Clifton. Never heard of it--not that that means anything! I'm not sure what the eG protocol is on listing all of the places from the magazine, but if it's legal, I'm happy to share. It's everything from bagels (G&A's in Butler) to Falafel (Evelyn's in New Brunswick) to Tuna Sandwich (The Cheese Shop in U. Montclair). Some very odd choices, though, imho.

Two places immediately come to mind, although it's been years since I've had them... CJ's deli in Madison Town Hall deli in South Orange (which, iirc, is either being renovated or is under new ownership--or both!)

Maybe you can hang a sign out of your window that says $50 for shoveling AND waitering tips...?!?

John, I noticed a Frankie Dee's (D's?) on Centre Street in Nutley this week...anything worth knowing about?

As I told someone today, I could easily survive for a month with the containers of different homemade soups in my freezer! There is also meatloaf, meat sauce, one of the knishes I bought at Tabatchnick's last week on the Hot Dog Run, and Lord only knows what else! Oh, and Klondike Bars. Lunch today was leftover lamb shanks that I made in the crock pot earlier in the week--over some mashed pots. And the rest of the wine I used for the shanks. Dinner was already-cooked turkey. NOW I'm wondering what to have...perhaps a glass of madiera!! Warms you from the inside on out.

Rocca gets a Good from David Corcoran in tomorrow's NYT New Jersey section. Corcoran is more pleased by the entrees than by apps, but ends the article with "As the cooking becomes more consistent, word of mouth will take over, and Rocca will be a hard secret to keep." And yes, Rosie, he mentions the truffles!

Funnyyou mention the Claremont Diner; it was one of the first places my friends and I went to to hang out after we got our driver's license. I think it's b/c it was far enough from home that we felt like we were really OUT. And/or, we'd end up there on the way home from NYC--with a stop at the White Castle for the guys, of course. There or the (now defunct) Dakota Diner in Pine Brook; probably spent more time there or at (still open but redone and just not the same) Paul's Diner in Mountain Lakes.

Oriental Yum-Yum at the Morris County Mall...it's where my dad introduced us to (real) Chinese food! My bro and I were probably 9 and 7 at the time, and we had our first taste of moo shu and discovered that there was more to Chinese food than chicken chow mein. We became regulars there and the owner always made a fuss over us, esp when it was my b'day, b/c it falls so close to the Chinese New Year. When Yum-Yum closed, they reopened in what is now (I think) a jewelry store in Florham Park. It was fancier, I was older, and somehow it was never the same.
