    China 46

Completely agree there, which is why I mentioned brown rice being an exception in my prior post. It's funny...I had originally written something like "I think it's fair to say that most Americans expect rice" but I changed it. Yes, Jason. WE. As in Americans. C46 may not be geared toward American customers, but they DO offer rice. Do they only want to serve Chinese customers in their restaurant? Of course not.
  2. Just a forewarning--Tierney's tends to be very smoky, so if that bothers you... Oh, who am I kidding? I believe that the walls of that place are solely composed of tar and nicotine. Fwiw, the burgers I've had at Egan's have been good, although I'm not knocked out by much of the rest of their menu. And of course, hair from same dog can be had there, as well! Too bad Arthur's isn't closer.

Not the point at all. ← Couldn't agree more, jwjojo. We had a similar issue at Thai Thai in Stirling. Jason, I know you love C46, but I find it hard to believe that you're defending them on this point. C46 serves rice. Regardless of whether or not that's the authentic way to eat Shanghainese cuisine, I think it's fair to say that we all expect rice in Chinese restaurants in this country (although brown rice is an exception). Thai food isn't traditionally eaten with chopsticks, but all Thai restaurants that I've been to have them...
  4. Well, since it's only the 3rd or 4th time using my new (and first) digital camera, I'm gonna just say "Okay, Tommy! I see why." Btw, the lighting in there didn't help matters. First few with the flash were waaaay overexposed. And I should give FatCatBrew credit for...the braised short ribs and volcano shots, iirc.
  5. AHA!!! 6. Okay...album is now public, and I'm hoping this first pic works... Sweet Potato Soup (Amuse) Dammit!! Well, the link works, so I'm going to put them all up, but I can't get the photos to show here. Maybe after a night's sleep. Or some help from Tommy. Here are the rest of the pics from last night's dinner... Haricots verts with frisee, cucumbers and lime vinaigrette Sweet Pumpkin Ravioli Eggplant Tower (one of my personal favorites...) Basil and pignoli-crusted Tilapia with Rock Shrimp Braised Short Ribs with Parmagiano Risotto Volcano Mascarpone Cheesecake with Pineapple and Mango
  7. ZIP IT, Tommy!!! I've got the pics in an album, but haven't quite figured out how to get them HERE. Sigh...
  8. Actually, they didn't know that we were eG'ers--what I told them was that it was a bunch of people who are really into good food! Of course, I'm now a regular customer, and they had met Rosie before, but the rest of the group was there for the first time. And not everyone who was at the table is on eG. I will now attempt my first-ever upload of photos in to ImageGullet, b/c I have some good shots from this dinner! Please stand by...
  9. Deleting the duplicate post...dunno how that happened.
  10. Glad to know there's someone keeping them in business this week, Jason!
  11. In customers.
  12. I swear--I didn't order it this time! Chef did.
  13. I want to add my thanks and kudos to both the chef and owner...we had a wonderful dinner!! The salad, btw, was STUNNING. I described it to someone this morning as bright, light, and somehow, not too Spring for January. The combo of flavors was dead on delicious, and the lime was an unusual and excellent twist. The ribs put me over. Actually, it was the risotto. Well worth it, but up until that course, I wasn't feeling stuffed. They were just fantastic--definitely another 'regular' dish to add to my list of favorites there! Rich, I have to disagree with your comment as well--I think the prices at Fortunato are very reasonable for a restaurant of its caliber. I don't care where they're located or whether or not they're BYO--creative food made by a very talented chef using fresh ingredients shouldn't come cheap! We were all looking at the regular menu last night and commenting on how reasonable it is, in fact. Apps and salads all around $10 (some less), pastas for $15-18, and iirc, not an entree over $25...
  14. I couldn't agree more, David!
  15. I think we should have eG personals so we can all avoid these issues! Luckily, the guys I've dated have liked food (even if some couldn't cook), but I deal with this problem with a number of my closest friends. I've just resigned myself to an occasional lunch at TGIFridays or the local red-sauce pizza place with a few of them, b/c separate of their eating habits, I do love them. But I can't imagine having a boyfriend who wouldn't try new restaurants, recipes, wines, etc. YEESH. Life's supposed to be an adventure, isn't it?!? If you're not adventurous when it comes to eating, that must translate to (ahem) other areas, and I'm just not willing to put up with that!
  16. I wouldn't mind if he called me "Sweetie" on the air. Or anywhere else, for that matter. ← Exactly what I was thinking, Avocado!!
  17. Call Mark Gagnon at OME Caterers...973-560-4540; their food, staff, service, creativity and presentation are WONDERFUL!
  18. This is true (unless maybe you have teenaged boy metabolisms...)! The two of us (gasp) didn't finish our order--I'd say we got through 90% of them.
  19. It was so great to see everyone today! I arrived with a friend around 12:30, and was greeted by a whole mess of eG'ers, which just added to the festivites. A true show of what community means, imo, and I'm sure Eric will agree. We got a large order of fries to share, a 6-piece order of egg roll dogs, and he had a classic w/mustard (he's a minimalist) while I ordered a Melt, which comes with cheese (I had swiss) and carmelized onions. YUMMMMM!!! Definitely a fine choice, if I do say so myself. A birch beer and a limeade rounded out the order. Total: $18.50. Seeing the place full of happy hot dog eaters: priceless. I'm with Holly--can't wait to hear Eric's report from the other side of the counter! And not to be outdone by Tracey at the pie store (where DID she find room at that point?!?), we stopped at Applegate Farms for some ice cream about 30 minutes later.
  20. Not a bad thing, but don't you trust the rest of us, David?!? We are what you'd call GOOD EATERS, after all...
  21. Can't believe I forgot that one! DUH. And do you think we can refer to the 'twist top' as a Stelvin closure so we don't sound like we're talking about under-$10 wines?!?
  22. Thanks to a certain eG pal, Zardetto Prosecco is definitely a go-to for me for BYO, and it's under $10! I can usually find it at Bottle King and Total Wine. You stole one from me (Altos Hormigas--YUM!), but here are a few others that I consistently buy: -Casa Lapostolle Sauvignon Blanc (believe it or not, my local Shop Rite liquor store almost always has this one in stock!) -Ca 'del Solo Big House Red (anywhere) -Rancho Zabaco Dancing Bull Zinfandel (the under-$10 version is just fine, and most places seem to carry it) -Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages (when it's a good year) Edit: -DUH. Believe it or not, Bella Sera Pinot Grigio (Sometimes tougher to find in NJ than in other states, but I usually find it somewhere) Of course, now I think it's time to open a bottle of red...
  23. So...birder53...have you been back to the place in Warren? Any good for dinner? If so, please share the name! Thanks.
  24. Circa received 3 stars in today's Star-Ledger. Congrats to Michael and crew! GOT to get out there one of these days...
