  1. Actually Royal Palace IS a strip club across the street from the Hinkley Hilton on Connecticut. Not sure how I know that, really.
  2. We have one here in the Metro DC area, in Pentagon City in VA. So I would love to participate as well.
  3. Ya ever been to Ben's chili bowl? It's only a DC institution...
  4. Washington DC- blue crabs and half smokes. But not together
  5. I was able to get reservations about 3 days before during the week about 2 months ago.
  6. I ended up taking them to Matchbox around 10. It was good for catching up (we got a cozy booth) and their pizza's always good. I love their Fire and Smoke pizza. SMayman and I are going to be checking out Poste and DC Coast during restaurant week as well. We will for sure report back to the group about our experience there, right Sara?
  7. I have to completely disagree with you, Jenny. Bourbon is one of my favorite bars in D.C. But I think that to really appreciate Bourbon, you have to, well...Try the bourbon. There are at least 30 specialty bourbons on the menu, with a wide range of prices, and the bartender that is usually there is very knowledgeable about the process of bourbon making and explaining what you should look for when tasting. I for one am glad that there is finally a bar in DC that specializes in such a unique drink that is so welcoming and friendly as well. Just my two cents.
  8. I think as a rule that some of the best drunk food can be found in Las Vegas on the strip. There is nothing better than finishing up your craps game at three in the morning and then feasting on the $.99 foot long hotdog that magically comes with a free beer. Oh, and don't even get me started on the $6.00 prime rib. mmmm. That's good eatin'
  9. Someone above mentioned the Safeway and their workers protesting. Here is a little background on the Safeway strike. More than 70,000 UFCW members in Southern California are taking a stand against corporate greed. Forced to fight by supermarket giants demanding wholesale cuts in health benefits that would leave current workers unable to pay for their care—and effectively leave future employees without any health care coverage at all--workers from seven locals voted over 90% to reject the offer by three of the largest supermarket operators in the country, Von's (Safeway-owned), Ralph's (Kroger-owned) and Albertson's and set up picket lines October 11, 2003. The job action was limited to Von's in order to reduce any inconvenience to customers but the other chains responded by locking workers out of their jobs. Even though operating profits for Kroger, Safeway, and Albertson's over the past decade have risen ten times faster than their contributions to worker health care in Southern California, the companies insist on what amounts to a 50 percent cut in medical benefits that would shift almost a billion dollars in health care costs onto employees over the term of the proposed contract. These workers are on strike for all workers—union and non-union—here and across the country knowing if these three supersize, super-profitable, supermarket chains can cut benefits here, then every worker is at risk. If you want more information on the strike, please go to www.ufcw.org I for one am boycotting Safeway until there is an equitable end to the strike.
  10. Could you tell me where this place is?
  11. The absolute worst meal that I have ever had in DC came from Haydees in Mount Pleasant. I ate my queso and then 5 mins after I was in the bathroom, the sickest that I have ever been in my life.
  12. Whitey's in fact is closed. I had a great burger for lunch the other day at Charlie Palmer's. It tasted exactly like the ones that my dad makes on the grill in the Summertime. Along with the burger they serve five types of mustard ranging from sweet to hot. It was really good....damn. Now I can't wait until lunch.
  13. I wish that I could make it Monday night. I would really like to meet you all.
  14. Edmund Fitzgerald Ale...made by the Great Lakes Brewing company.
  15. Not at the Hall of States, but next door. My entire building was lining up for pictures and autographs. Maybe I should invite him to lunch at our spectacular cafeteria.
  16. I got to meet him last week as well. He was in our office and is thinking about filming some K Street from our roof top deck that overlooks the capitol. He was outrageously handsome and very sweet.
  17. It is Sake (not saki, my bad), but I have to say that I am not sure that this place is trying to be a high end place like Nobu or Morimoto's or whatever the "it" flavor of the day is. I was only commenting that for an Adams Morgan watering hole, where you can have a good drink, listen to a good DJ, and have some ok food for a reasonable price...this place is pretty good. I mean, you could go to Toledo Lounge or Milly and Al's if you want to. But for my dollar, I think that Sake is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. If you want to have a nice dinner and drop some serious change, PLEASE go to one of the places with the $150 prix fix menus. But if you want to have a good drink, some snacks, and hang out with your friends, I can't think of a better place in AM.
  18. Saki is on the corner of Columbia and 18th. I believe it is where Columbia Station and Whisper used to be. I forgot to add that the one disturbing thing about the place was the really ugly couple sitting next to us that made out the entire evening. I mean I can handle some PDA, but in this case I almost vomitted.
  19. Well, it was actually pretty good. They have this happy hour special from 5-7 where they give you a free glass of sparkling wine, 20% off the food items, and then some chocolate covered strawberries for "dessert". The sushi and maki were pretty good...by no means the best I have ever had, but I have to say that the vibe in the joint is pretty cool. Very laid back, kind of a Kimpton-Hotel thing going on with interesting music, and a very interesting light set up. The crowd is not your typical 20-somethings, rather a more professional after work crowd. The service was really good, never for a moment was there an empty glass. I had one of the best dirty martinis ever. I hope that this place survives, as that corner has turned over ownership about 1/2 dozen times. The actual menu has about 25 items on it...all japanese. You all should check it out.
  20. My girls and I are checking out this place tonight for happy hour...is there anything that we should not miss on the menu?
  21. I also think that Labanese Taverna would be a good choice. (I am speaking of the one found in the Woodley Park neighborhood in particular). They have a large menu and there are always families in that place when I have been there.
  22. How about my box of bisquick? Pretty shameful. Whateva, it reminds me of my childhood.
  23. I second the Mr. Chen's suggestion. I am always happy with the take out that I get from there.
  24. I so wish that I could make it, however I am leaving for San Diego today for work. (I know, poor me). But I am in for next week! I am looking forward to meeting you all at some point. I have been lurking for far too long on this site and I feel like I know some of you already.
