  1. I'll probably get various types of opinions from asking a question like this but ... where's the best pizza in NJ? I additionally look for quality of topping. For those of you who've gone through this, I apologize. Honestly, I didn't feel like sifting through old stuff. Notable places I've been to were DeLorenzo's (Hudson St), Una Pizza (Pt. Pleasant) and ... Thanks for your input! :Dave
  2. I can't understand the popularity of the white house. IMO, you can get better subs at any number of italian deli's in NJ. They also make a very mediocre cheese steak. Go only to see if they still have the autographed picture of OJ up on their wall of fame. You can get a better meal from the hotdog vendor outside of the Trump Plaza. White House sucks.
  3. Michael Jordan's in Grand Central! I have not had a better hamburger anywhere. It's expensive but very well worth it. Beware, it's large (I think 20oz)
  4. You'll have to let me know how it is; it's also on my to-do list. Has anyone been to Uncle Jack's in Queens? I'm scheduled to go to Benson's in a couple weeks. I've never been there. Besides the steak and crab cakes, what else is good? Be honest, am I making a mistake going there? (I'm probably spoiled with Lugers/strip house/river palm taste)
  5. You'll have to let me know how it is; it's also on my to-do list. Has anyone been to Uncle Jack's in Queens?
  6. I've heard good things about Fornos of Spain in Newark. Any good? Worth the trip from Monmouth?
  7. The food at 'the truck' is fantastic and very reasonably priced. I used to walk from CU at least twice per week for it. The only bad thing is that there's no place in the area for one to comfortably sit. Get the taco
  8. so where's the best peking duck? I want to get spoiled on my firsr experience
  9. steak ... the best is in NY? So, I guess I have to pay tolls to get the best?
  10. I've been to Luger's and I love the place! If I knew I was going to die tomorrow, I'd eat there tonight. Where else have you had great steak (in Jersey)?
  11. And how were the apps? Is what you ate at Lugers better than all of what's available in Jersey? (I'm making an attempt to keep this a Jersey topic ).
  12. Excellent! You'll leave there happy, definitely one of the best around.
  13. Is Frankie & Johnnie's really a "Luger's in Jersey?" What's their best side and what's their best appetizer? Is there a NJ steakhouse (or anyplace for that matter) that has luger-style bacon strips?
  14. I couldn't agree more but I always try to look past all the non-food downfalls (except service). For me, Luger's is a "prime" example of that, I HATE everything about the place except the food, which I .
  15. Better than River Palm? That's one heck of a statement ! Now I'm faced with a dilemma : now I want to try F&J's and hold off on Mignon (once again). What do you suggest? I don't mind the smoke (in fact I kind of like it ) and I don't mind noise. Just as good ? Now I'm really confused... Mignon? F&J's? Mignon? F&J's? Mignon? F&J's? Which one do suggest for a first timer? Tommy, I'm curious, where did you have the best steak in NJ? Thanks
  16. Nope, only the same three exist: Edgewater, Fair Lawn and Mahwah. I really wish they'd open another closer to Monmouth
  17. I live near Crown Palace in Middletown. What's special about Peking Duck, I've never had it? I've heard others talk about it.
  18. i think you'll really enjoy it. make sure you post about your dinner! Will do, thanks!
  19. everything i've seen suggests that their steaks are dry-aged for about 28 days. Thank you! I stand corrected, they do have dry aged beef! I even contacted them, questioned their host, he read off the menu and, yes, they do serve dry aged beef (so they say). And get this, their 40oz porterhouse for two is only $45. Either way, $45 is an absolute steal! Dry aged beef and BYOB ... what could be better! F&J's once again gets delayed; mignon is next on the steak agenda. Thanks again.
  20. Is Brickhouse an Inn? Are they noted for steak? I can't seem to find anything on them.
  21. I would say Strip House has the #2 steak in the State, 2nd to River Palm Terrace, by a fine margin. The steak at SH is unique, with some kind of salt concoction for flavoring, but it's still excellent.
  22. Strip House if FANTASTIC - I highly recommend it!
  23. No, No & No. I've heard very good things about F&J's and I'm trying to get a minute to go there. Mignon supposedly wet ages their meat so I'm not hyped about going there.
  24. So far the best steaks I've had at NJ steakhouses were (in order) River Palm, Strip House, Lorenzo's Café, Old Homestead, Salt Creek Grille, Morton's, Sammy's, Manhattan Steakhouse, Assembly Steakhouse, Bacchus, Prime Place and Danny's. Does anybody have any suggestions where else one can find prime dry aged beef? Thanks :)
  25. Yes I've been to Strip House and I can't wait to go back! Their food prices are very reasonable. Two of us had (1) double strip, (1) rib steak, (2) appetizers, (2) sides and (2) beers; the bill was only ~$160. Steak dinners are one of my hobbies and when the double strip was put in front of me I thought, "no way will I finish this." Nevertheless, I did. Yes, it was that good. I typically don't like seasoning on steak and the steak at Strip House is seasoned with some kind of salt concoction. The mixture of prime beef, dry aging, charring and that salt concoction made for a magnificent steak. The steak's flavor is second only (in my opinion ) to River Palm and Chicago Chop House (IL). The rib steak was so good that it made my medium-well-eating guest want it medium-rare next time. It was the only steak I've ever seen her enjoy. The creamed spinach is undoubtedly the best I've ever tasted. One may feel differently because the spinach has a unique flavor, which I think is truffle. The lamb shank was unique and extremely tasty (it tasted like US Lamb); the goose fat potatoes were okay (and indeed fatty); the mixed greens salad was nothing to write home about (and was served on a warm plate). I feel Strip House's wine list is short and unfair. I like a steakhouse that has a wine for everybody and they had no wine for me. I don't like starting at $40 for a bottle of wine that is marked up about 250%. Even their beer selection is narrow and unfair at ~$7/beer. All in all, despite the alcohol setback, I can't wait to return to Strip House! I feel Strip House and River Palm should share the top-seed for steak in NJ and Morton's should be bumped from the #1 food rating (zagat). I will make it to Frankie & Johnnies one day; I hear good things from friends.
