  1. That's a very good question tommy. I totally missed that there was no address posted until I saw it. In any case, I emailed our reservation in so hopefully there's still room for us.
  2. All he has to do is reserve the pie and show up. You take your chances if you want to play it by ear.
  3. but we could always use more.
  4. Wear a raincoat. Bring a clear plastic tarp (a cheap shower curtain liner would be good) to keep the food & money dry. Bring a change of clothes packed in a ziploc bag or tupperware, so that you won't catch a chill from the air conditioned car ride home. If the people don't show (except for the eGullet people who will try to get there as early as possible, right?), sell to the restaurants or crash a Friday Farmers Market!
  5. The menu, so far. If you are still trying to figure out what to bring... I think we are short on veggie (not starchy) side dishes. Also, we need bread. Some iced tea and lemonade would be nice. More appetizers. Beverages home-made fresh apple-cider bottled water BYOB PA Wine, Mint Juleps and Victory Beer Appetizers Dumplings? fresh fruit and a dip for it (or is this a dessert?) mostarda or a fruit chutney is in order, to go along with some of curdnerd's cheese (Soba - please note that curdnerd is not supplying cheese) Mains ROASTED/SMOKED PIG - that is the point of this whole thing, right?) Pastitsio Sides Starchy enigmatic pasta mac & cheese sweet potato casserole baked beans (2 people are bringing baked beans) corn and tomato savory pastry potato salad of mysterious ethnicity Veggie Collards Cole Slaw marinated grilled portobella mushrooms health salad Desserts Banana Pudding blueberry PIE pecan pie homemade sorbets/ices brownies something chocolate from Pierre at Wegmans Dr. Pepper Cake Ginger Snaps derby-style bourbon pecan pie Misc (aka the more the merrier (TMTM)) Dry goods tables, chairs, tents ice

To Summarize Curdnerd's post/rules: 1. No Dogs. 2. Making mac & cheese. 3. Kids Welcome - someone needs to organize some kid activities and parents need to supervise them at all times 4. We're gong to be using lots of small tents. 5. Cheese Shop will be open for the first hour or so of the event. 6. place marker. (perhaps a cap on the number of people? or parking instructions?) Other notes: 1. We must completely clean up after ourselves. Everyone bring an extra bag or two and leave with some garbage, please. 2. Tents (not camping tents, party tents), tables & chairs -- the more the merrier. 3. The pig is $4 per person (kids count) 4. Remember to check the RSVP list for what you offered to bring -- and before posting that you are thinking of bringing baked beans.
  7. working on the new RSVP list. I think we now have 2 or 3 people making baked beans. no more. please.
  8. OK, not really too close, but I recall going to the Madison diner at 3AM at some point 10 years ago or so. You should call all the diners in your area to find out which are open late.
  9. We did that last year. The Ranier cherries are much more mild in taste, and they also go bad very quickly. So, even if both are available I tend to get the dark red Bing cherries as I like their flavor and texture better.
  10. Is that what Faith meant (on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) when she said she was 5-by-5???
  11. What's the opinion on mint with beets? (Asking because I have beets in the fridge and well, I always have mint, being that the garden is overrun with the stuff.)
  12. I think we should definitely have some non-alcoholic drinks, especially water, ice tea, and/or lemonade. It may still be pretty hot out and we'll be outside and a lot of people will be driving long distances, so we shouldn't drink too much booze. This would be a good thing for a non-cook to bring. Note: RSVP list above has been edited to this point.
  13. Hey Steven, could you let us know who has the best prices on watermelon each week? You guys seem to go through them like, um, water. Hint: It's not Shop Rite this week - cut seedless for $.49/lb. However, they are going "Plum Crazy" with 8 varieties for .79/lb each (see page 15).

    Lobster 101

I just throw them in the pot to steam and slam down the lid. I've never heard a scream. In any case that's just steam escaping the shell, I think. Takes too long to get a huge pot of water to the boil and then the bugs get water logged.
  15. Invite us over.
  16. So, Laura did you go to St. Martin? Report?
  17. If Marisoll's is still around (haven't been to PR for 5 years) then definitely hit that as your nice dinner spot, then move on to a club. I see that Miguel Gierbolini thinks it may be closed, which is a possibility. But I did find it on Yellow Pages of Puerto Rico, so, JIC: Chef Marisoll 201 Calle Carite (Old San Juan) San Juan, PR 00926 787-725-7454
  18. Mark, rlibkind already claimed baked beans, so unless you are doing something highly unusual, the only other baked beans I want to see are Finks (which are excellent, very meaty). Hey, I know, why don't you make that pasta salad with the chicken & raisins. Haven't had that in ages! (seriously, I really like it) ~~~ Current RSVP list: Alanz + Lauren & Joshua - enigmatic pasta (3) Andrew Fenton & the Mrs. - Banana Pudding (2) Curdnerd & family - supplying the location, that's enough (unless you'd like us to sample some of your bread & cheese ) (3?) Dbrociner + wife, Stephanie, and our daughter Sophia - sweet potato casserole and garbage bags (3) docsconz + wife & kids - home-made fresh apple-cider (5) Double 0 + family (4) dumpling - non-alcoholic drinks and/or dumplings and/or wicked good blueberry PIE (1) Elyse (wants a ride with the Shaw-Shapiros) - bringing pie (1) Fat Guy & Ellen (2) Fink - bringing the cooked pig(s) at the reduced price of $4 per person (1?) herbacidal (1) howard88 - Cole Slaw (2) Hscottk + wife (2) Jason & Rachel Perlow - homemade sorbets/ices, maybe ice cream (2) jogoode - maybe (1?) johnjohn - brownies (1) (offering rides from NYC or Long Island) Jonathan Sibley (1) JosephB & Donna (& pup? Are we bringing our dogs now?*) - corn and tomato savory pastry (2) KatieLoeb - plus others from the Philly area (1) Kim WB + guest - dessert from Pierre at Wegmans :) (2) Lisa1349 + guest - PA Wine, Mint Juleps and Victory Beer from Downington, PA (2) Liz Johnson + husband - Dr. Pepper Cake,a table? (2) LReda & Sue & children (2-6?) =Mark - ice, marinated grilled portobella mushrooms, table & chairs (1) NewYorkTexan - maybe (1) pnapoli + guest (2) Randi + friend (2) rlibkind (Bob & Jean Sue) - baked beans (2) RockADS21 + Mrs. Rock (2) Rosie & Lowell - health salad (I think that's some kind of cole slaw) (2) Slkinsey + bergerka - Ginger Snaps (needs a ride from NYC) (2) SobaAddict70 - mostarda or a fruit chutney is in order, to go along with some of curdnerd's cheese (1) Suzanne and HWOE; potato salad of mysterious ethnicity (2) Suzilightening - since she's planning on arriving late, she should probably bring a dessert (how late are you planning on arriving?) (1) Tommy & the Mrs. - non-food stuffs (ice, paper plates, forks etc, napkins, cups) (2) Right now we're at 66-70 approximately. Please confirm your numbers, especially if there's a question park next to your entry above. Also, start thinking about the dish you are planning on bringing and post it, and if you have folding and/or lawn chairs and/or folding tables, I think they may be welcome as well. Reminder about the facilities provided by Curdnerd: Curdnerd - there was a question above about dogs, whether or not they are welcome, please address this, thanks. What is the people capacity of the site?
  19. The trick to making "additions" to sorbet, or ice cream for that matter, is to not add them before or while churning. Cut up the add-in and sprinkle it onto the ice cream as you spoon it into the storage container. That way the chunks remain chunky. The almonds pretty much need to be chocolate coated to not get soggy. I think you should have just taken an actual Almond Joy bar and cut it up and layered it into the coconut sorbet. As for Jason's opinion about our sorbets, hmm, well, I think they taste good, but the last few have had a texture more similar to Italian ices than sorbet. I'm pretty sure it's due to the water content to amount of sugar, particularly with the watermelon sorbet. The mango sorbet we made last year had a nice creamy texture. I just think we're not that picky.
  20. I don't know if you'll be able to ship this to the UK, but Amazon currently has a great deal on this ice cream maker. Click here for the Musso 4080 Lussino Dessert Maker. It is currently listed for $594.95, with a $100 rebate if purchased by the end of July so then the price becomes $494.95. In addition, it is appearing in our Amazon Gold Box right now, so if it appears in yours as well, there is an additional coupon for $89.24, for a total price of $405.71. Oh yeah, it also qualifies for Free Shipping (within the continental US).
  21. What, no pictures!? Sounds like it may be worth another 6¢/lb to get the watermelon in civilization.

    wd-50

Especially, if they did any fact checking, they could easily call WD-50, Wylie freely admits to being internet/computer illiterate.
  23. List above updated (this is just a place marker for me, BTW).
  24. I figure 1 RSVP list per page is good, so I just edited my previous post with your contributions.
  25. I've added this to the eGullet Calendar for you all.
