Scotland in “summer” - a short travelblog
Senior Sea Kayaker replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
I've really enjoyed following your Scottish trip. Lots of fodder for planning a future trip. Cheers. -
For sure. I was just listing my preferred bitter greens. I will also be growing chard, beet greens and radish greens.
-
I'm with you on that. Kale, collards, escarole, arugula, radicchio and dandelion greens when they're properly prepared. Grocery stores in my area don't carry half of the greens mentioned however I will be making up the difference in the garden (or foraged in the case of dandelion).

A little Thanksgiving humour for our southern neighbors.

@chromedome Good one. When I moved to Cape Breton last summer I drove. 22 hours driving time over 3 days. Doesn't look like much on the Canadian map. -

Not comparing just curious. -
Cold, damp and snowy breakfast. Herbed eggs (dill, parsley, chives and thai chilis) over potatoes and sausage (cut large for dipping) with tomato and clementine.

Nice to see you back. Were all of the spots you camped so crowded? I'm curious since campsites in campgrounds in Canada are much more spacious and in most cases have treed areas separating them allowing for some privacy. I am referring to national, provincial and territorial parks and not privately owned campsites. -
@Tropicalsenior That chicken skin looks chispy paper thin 😋

The packaging is interesting. Very similar to the 'Captain Highliner' brand available here.

Duck eggs: one of the things that is not available in this area and they are missed. They are, in my opinion, a tastier egg.
-
CFL Grey Cup today. So we're eating a lot of food I really shouldn't be eating at my age 😋
-
@liamsaunt You got me with that squash. Something I wouldn't have thought of doing. Something for the Christmas table.

Breakfast was a bit of a throw together this morning. Leftover spicy wonton filling, egg, aged cheddar, tomato and lettuce on a toasted ciabatta roll with an orange. Sloppy looking but tasted good.

We called them tangerines and my brothers and I would find some use for the wooden crates.
-
Breakfast wrap: ww tortilla, herbed eggs, chorizo, mushrooms, aged cheddar and spinach. Tomato and a clementine on the side. The clementines were the first appearance, and my first purchase this year, of 2 Kg. (5 lb.) cases at the grocer. Reminds me of how excited my brothers and I, when children, would get when they would show up around Christmas

@Shelby The pastry on that pot pie looks good. I like that you can see the little steam bubbles where they're under the surface.

Good food always tastes better after a day outdoors. Your photos do give a real sense of the terrain. -

Ketchup does have a place: left at the grocery store.

Yesterday was a day inside as it rained heavily most of the day (good thing the ground hasn't frozen yet). Late lunch or early dinner: pork patty sandwich with aged cheddar, sauteed cepes, hot peppers and mustard. Arugula and tomato salad and paired with a Cape Breton oatmeal stout.

I've not had the opportunity to visit Scotland and hope to do so. Vicariously travelling along will keep that trip more likely. -
Like to see someone weld with this or try to use it as a soldering iron (re. repairing household appliance).
