  1. ]...and then they rearranged all the furniture in the lobby of my apartment building

    It's only a Web-based shift for Post.

    wash post web redesign

I love how rolley eyes guy is looking up the webpage; he's looking at redesign of site. Very cute.

Can we have a few more clickable smiles in conjunction with the redesign? :tummy hurts guy:, :drunk guy:, and :hypnotized guy: would be fun. he he

Also, we need the :foie gras happy: clickable smile.

  2. Ewww.

That combo of indifferent chef, booze and raw fish makes me ill.

Dragonfly mini mes all over the city...

Actually, tho, some foodie friends were saying how Sake Club (a different place in Woodley) is really authentic and that it's supposed to be quite good. I'll have to check in with them or go myself since it's in the hood.

    Menu looks looks really yummy.

  3. SWoody:

    Glad to know you're there!

Off season, are places like Back Porch Cafe, Blue Moon and La La Land open?

    I like those places.

Totally dig La La Land b/c of that bartender with the leopard hair and for those ballistic 10 oz martinis that make me think I'm someone else.

Do you shop at Bin 66? It's a great wine store, but you prolly know already if you live there. If you don't know 66, the guys who run it are Tom and Tom and they have two awesome black labs that run around store. Wine tastings are usually 4-7 on Sat. during regular beach season.

    Cheers.

  5. I'm glad that JRage, hopefully along with JRage's wife and Salivate, didn't take that comment to heart.

...and JRage, you guys are good in my book. You kindly offered me that pumpkin soup, which is above and beyond what I expected .

    Remember how nice that was?

    JRage said:

"...It's pretty tasty... give me some advanced notice and I'll have them make you a pumpkin bowl if you want... "

I hope to take you up on that before pumpkin soup goes away too

(or maybe it's gone; I don't know). Bye bye

  6. Pardon me for thinking there was some affiliation--your initial post just sounded a lot like it was written by a PR person.

..and not a unreasonable assumption when written in press release style and nearly 600 words in length.

    I really like Mendo.....

but so much promo and so little critique makes me wonder if salivate isn't sleeping with someone on payroll there (salivate, just a joke  Please don't hurt me)

  7. you can always dine at Starbucks...it's two doors down to the right...it's sad that there aren't many options for good food around logan circle...somebody (with a lotta loot ) needs to open an independent restaurant near there... sooner or later..if they can pay the rent!

    On that note...

It's not really in Logan, but does anyone know anything about JOJO's Restaurant & Bar on U Street, between 15th and 16th Streets? It's in one of those town houses next to MEEPS...and they just painted the place creamy cilantro green.

What excites me is the name, though, the key words being "& Bar".

When a place is that close to the homestead, there really needs to be a bar.

Also, Rice is supposed to be open now on 14th Street. It think it 14th and Q.

The honchos 'with a lotta loot' are building condos that I can't afford...

  8. To Trudge or not to trudge.

    It's worth the trudge if:

    a. You are Mark S. or John W.

    b. You're in the service industry and go there enough to make friends with Mark S. and John W.

(then du Coin likes you by default)

    c. If you are a Washington correspondent for Agence France Press

    d. If you like yellow walls and bright light at 1:45 a.m.

    e. If you enjoy watching chefs fall backwards out of chairs (my fave)

  9. So, I finally got around trying Jamison's ambrosial pumpkin soup with sweetbreads (Mmm times infinity), but I'm certain that the experience has inflated my expectations...

I'm forging ahead on soup tour this Saturday.

    Where should I go next?

    (edited on 1/11/03)

Actually, Alex made that soup at Jamison's place. Thanks Alex, and sorry i didn't credit properly...

    It's an amazing soup.

  10. 8Track,

Let me tell you a secret:

The latest ABC report says that Washingtonian's circulation is 152, 439

The Sunday Post's circulation is about 1.15 million at this point.

People count on Sietsema and he clearly likes Nectar.

    Hush now.

    Secretly, I'm from Chevy Chase...

  11. I've been there a few times now and have been pretty pleased. It's the overall package; a combo of the lively atmosphere, a pretty predictable, but nonetheless tasty menu...and the friendly people who work there.

I might compare the place to Cafe Deluxe.

I can't describe the food with much passion or detail, but I've tried several of the apps at this point (asian wings are really good; an ahi tuna app was what I hoped), had a couple of the salads (arugla, prosciutto and peaches was nice) ...and tasted NY strip and bistro fries off of someone else's plate. It's really reasonably priced and the portions are pretty generous.

...and as for rezis, I know they have a book, but it's really a waiting list. I called one Thursday night when they first opened, and they told me they don't take rezis at prime time. The place gets packed.

It's fun, the gay guys who go there are fun...and Victor (at bar) who used to work at Rupert's is quality.

  12. I think I'm heading to Firefly to read the Post, drink wine, have an excellent bite, and say "hi" to one of the friendliest chefs in town. Go to Dupont, and walk down New Hampshire to the Hotel Madera-- right there. I'll be the stunningly handsome guy in the lounge wearing a blue shirt and khakis.

    Al:

When you read the Post, checkout WORLD'S FARE section. It's a trial run. Deep inside the paper where ads are. Curious what you think...

    rachiesarah:

I agree about Firefly and Nectar. Say 'hi' to Reed if you pick Nectar. Splendid batrtender. Do you have budget cap, btw?

  13. jackal10:

    Thanks for sharing this!

Does anyone know if there are any new funky hybrid pumpkins that can be eaten?

I mean, in different colors and what not.

I'm scared of those white pumpkins. They're so ugly, but I guess some farmer was thinking the kids could draw and paint on them better; keep the kids away from knives...

Foodies are good pumpkin carvers, right? Egullet carving contest! With wine. Dangerous, but fun!

  14. Did you have Jamison's pumpkin-butternut squash soup at Nectar yet? Mmm... sweetbreads. Delicious...

In once a week and all you ever get is cheese... tut tut.

    Who are you, tut tut?

I need pumpkin soup. I've got a long road ahead...

Right now, though, I'm trying to find 50 more cent for my Rold Gold pretzels.

    Office snack machine is calling.

Should I get the Zoo Crackers instead?

I might need Nectar Saturday night. Uncle is at that other GW hotel where Dish is and different Auntie in town too...

    They're pretty big foodies.
