  2. Pretty entertaining. Did anyone look yet? I like how he even related underage drinking. Never available online, so you have to snag one on the street and turn to page 50- something. I hope this guy is as cool as Brett Anderson.
  3. So what's everyone doing for dinner tonight?
  4. For that size, a few 'cozy' places 'with yummy food' that come to mind are Pesce, Cashion's, and Lavandou. Maybe someone can help with suggestions in VA. How about Majestic Cafe? Two years ago I had a good dinner there with a small crowd. I mean, the value was good and it was easy to carry on conversation. I'm familiar with Bethesda, but it's less cozy there; too many chains now (Cafe Deluxe, McCormick's, Daily Grille, Mon Ami Gabi, etc.) and lots of luxury SUVs with wreaths on them.
  5. Swankalicious started this thread October 24. Is two months not enough time? sorry. didn't pay attention.
  6. Also, not to be prickly, but resis for 30 people around Christmas time should be made with a little more advance planning. Especially at prime time on Saturday when there are only two of those left. I'll be curious to find out who ends up taking them, what their reservation policy is and how the service ends up being. Popular places have to be booked already...
  7. I've been trying to get over this cold, and I think a trip to good old Pho 75 last night finally did the trick. The people I was with gave me a hard time at first because I ordered the 'chicken noodle' (sounds too American) pho, but everyone settled down when we all realized that it was the same good pho we've always known. Mmm. That broth and that chicken, with all that basil and Jalapeño to put in there...and hot sauce and plum sauce. Makes you feel so alive. I'm all better now! Leave it up to the Pho Master General to cure you.
  8. Umm, the green stuff? Mint flavored Hershey Kisses. Can't they just stop... We have After Eights and Yorks.
  9. What's Rocks gonna do on New Year's eve? After a while you must have to get creative... Rocks, are you real? Like, can we poke you?
  10. Hooters might be second place for Chinese; following Big Won, of course... he he.
  11. Mark, What did you write at nearly 4:00 a.m. on November 30 and then edit later that day around lunch time? Hmmm. I'm starting to wonder about all the edited posts around here? There should be a no-posting-after-the-bar closes rule... (...and for a someone who studied English, my spelling is despicable )
  12. Yeah, I agree about the staff at Palena. There's no pretention there at all. Derrick and his staff make the place as friendly as any neighborhood joint, which is priceless in fine dining scene. I need to go back there soon... Cheese plate with Ruda's fruit/nut bread (can't remember all that was going on in there, but it was the best I've had of it's suit) made me especially happy, along with some of their wines by the glass. I need to make more money so I can sit in nice dining room and order everything.
  13. Does anyone remember a Mediterranean deli/market next to the ghetto Giant and G.C. Murphy's (in the 2 Amy's and Cactus Cantina hood)? Smalti's or something... Where did it go? Someone said Faxhall Square, but they lied to me... Anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?
  14. Too bad it makes being a chef sound so easy. I appreciate how hard you guys work. That's all for now... (edited by my editor)
  15. Because John W. is nice Go to page 10 of PDF
  16. Don't forget Sexstar (nectar)

    Ginger Altoids

I found them by mistake this morning at 7-11 on the way to work and bought them after having read this thread yesterday. Spice-o-rama! Much more than 'curiously' strong, I think. 3 calories...and all that power. But I can't say it's that much of a pleasure to have in my mouth. They burn, but don't freshen the way the cinn or spear do. I swear I'm not that whimpy. Also, what is gum Arabic, one the ingredients?
  20. Yellow walls are totally sexy...
  21. But wouldn't they be booked anyway? Is it loud in there, John?
  22. I haven't been, but someone I work with just told me that La Perla was where they went for an anniversary last week...and that were realllly pleased with everything. Seems like anniversary ambiance (at least from the outside). Has anyone been there?
  23. That is a good point, but I meant more like, if you smoke, go outside. Don't stop going out entirely, don't stop having good dinners. That's weak. Like, not being able to do the things you enjoy b/c smoking ain't allowed. There's a happy medium... Step out in the fresh air for a second. Sneak into to the back alley or something... I defend public health and I defend friends in local hospitality. I'm not so strong, but I'm also not going let something that kills people (me) rule me.
  24. It'll happen eventually, so it may as well happen now... Not such a bad thing. Smokers, we aren't that weak are we? Who's quitting with me? Plus there are always those cigar lounges that have a 'special permit'. For example, The Oak Room at the Plaza. The rich will always be allowed to smoke...
