  1. Nothing quite says "good night" like sharing a 45 second ride with five styrofoam boxes of leftovers of the best steaks in town, a handicapped 'plaket' dangling from the rearview mirror (mind you, on the very day the 'handicapped' one ran a 5K race for brain cancer research) ...and coming home to six more delicious bottles of wine, 2 dogs and watching Tony Soprano suffer an anxiety attack in the tee box. *Waking up to a 40 degree rainy Monday gave me great pleasure.
  2. Alberto's Where is Alberto's? It's on the same block/same side of street as Johnny's Half Shell and Pesce...in an english basement of sorts... P Street.
  3. Is it Nectar's? Let's call it Hooligan's instead. I've heard good things about that place.
  4. I trust Palenaonrye. I'm going try what he says. Ride over on my new bike and have an onion bagel with veggie cream cheese and a coffee.
  5. LOOK! It's more of the candidness we know and love. Learn about the heritage, passage and lounging of India. "Divide and Conquer" "Though Seth, a traditionalist, wonders why anyone would want to go “bastardizing a great cuisine,” Tuli makes no apologies about his concerted effort to create the sort of happening, after-hours place that crops up wherever you find a heavy concentration of young, single urbanites. Asked why he’s chosen to depart from traditional Indian dishes with his new venture, he responds, impatiently, “Well, to go with the times, sir.” *So maybe there is no DUP in Dupont.
  6. Despicable. This forum is so popular now that the Nectar thread had slipped all the way to page five. More exclusivity: Last night I drank water out of Reidel O wine tumblers, and I could swear I heard The Beastie Boys resonating out of the crystal. Who else has those?
  7. Also, there's the White Bread (a.k.a. Sorry) Safeway near Chevy Chase Circle.
  8. And Pizza Hut has buffalo wing pizza. Does anyone have any of that Purell antibacterial gel?
  9. Blanche DuBois would have totally gone to Nectar and so would I ... (I'm delirious and vain too) Honestly, it's a perfect place for a first anniversary. Stella and Stanley would have gone to Dish (I'm afraid); Stanley in his beater tank top... NECTAR.
  10. Let's get our party-oriented 'socks' out, everybody. A cheesy op-ed.
  11. I like the idea of the evil/spoiled people who would shove me with their carts and baskets to dip the free baby carrots into the jalapeño ranch dressing... I... I...I like the idea of them and their cheese suffering together. "Go ahead buddy, push me for the cheese and steal my bike while you're at it."
  12. Yes, I love The Freshman! That was the best; that song... I won't eat 17 Year Cicadas or any others for that matter. Pretty much anything with more than four limbs/legs, that makes a graphic squish sound under the weight of me in shoes...is out of the question. If someone ever fools me into eating dog, cat or horse. I will hose them with MSG!
  13. This week I nearly guessed it "Pie in the Sky" But Mr. Kliman, I didn't like the Carciofi e Sedano. (and it wasn't a matter of preference!) And I did like the timbale that 'rivals peanut butter for stickness'. An honest review that points out that there are some inconsistencies in this friendly neighborhood joint. But none of that will keep me from returning... Comfort, genuine hospitality, and chairs that fall backward; that's all I ever wanted. The nice will stay nice, the wine glasses will start fuller than their tacky pour lines say, my friends will continue to meet me.... and the chairs will never stop falling. Review Ginger Cove next then
  14. |dumplin'| Are you the City Books reviewer for WCP? My young guess. You know about advertising/editorial budget at WPC, your first post was a poem, and you posted about Art-o-matic. That's very CP.
  15. There are a few gems on Scotland Yard's menu - excellent sausage roll and Scotch eggs as appetizers, a lamb filet mignon wrapped in bacon for an entree, and a tasty Scotch trifle. Scott Cheggs
  16. I'm going to keep an open mind about this place. There is so little in that part of the business district... It's that SOHO buffet lunch place ($11 for ambiguous chucks of meat that fuel my nightmares ) and Starbucks on every corner...
  17. I meant Panache. "Panache Restaurant". I was blinded by rain that day. Can't edit for some reason...
  18. hipster-poshpasteries? tsk tsk tsk.
  19. This week's column: "Why Was This Week Different From All Other Weeks?" It's a more personal review and one with distinctive food critiquing guidlines... Mr. Kliman, I like how you seem real . You mentioning 'family' and 'a friend and his girlfriend' give you even more credibility. Your voice seems more neighborly. Also, there's a new perspective on Rosa Mexicano here.
  20. Give Red Ginger a try... or Basil Thai (that way your off of the main strip; a.k.a (not) Mmmm Street, except for one or two places)
  21. Taking a stroll again in the rain, I decided to take another peek... The place looks good; it seems to be just about done. I like the hardwood floor and the sleekness of the bar. The red awning out front says 'Panaceta Restaurant' (I'm pretty sure it was not pancetta, but it's true I'm not seeing straight). The GM just told me that it's going to be French, Italian and Spanish, tapa-style and that they will be open late-night. I fear that anything open that late is doomed to the Oh-nozio crowd. They are e-mailing me a menu, so I'll post when it arrives... Maybe the cool people at ABC will hang there and I can meet some hottie with an IFB and Mac foundation...
  22. But "hipster foodie". I like that so much. I've heard of nouveau foodie, but not hipster... It sounds like something I would have loved to say in middle school. Like, gag me with a naked barbie doll you hipster foodie! Yes, this is a good thread and at the same time, hipster foodies with their little Zagat books and their Sunday Source or whatnot, they are annoying. Are chef groupies annoying, though? stretch, El Chalan is great Peruvian food for the money and it's a block from Farraglut West Metro... (have you been?) El Chalan
  23. This has to be a joke! Okay, now that this is established I feel better.
  24. You're great! "Hipster foodies"
