i'm curious to hear about Farmicia if anyone has been and cares to share their experience. i had a res during restaurant week, but had to cancel. thanks, arice

agreed! i often stop in during lunch to grab a late afternoon work snack. they have a nice variety of nuts and wasabi peas and such. i usually end up buying something nice to bring home for dinner as well... go sue's! allison

tim, wowee, your food and mission sound grand.... and parking?!? i can't wait to stop in for a bite. arice

katie, i have to agree that the pineapple mint was really amazing... just when you think the mint is about to overpower, the flavors just meld together. my husband picked this winner.... quite awesome. i had the chocolate banana which was just my speed, yum!

thanks for this info about covered bridge. i was just reading the fair food's 2004 flyer thingy that has a listing of a number of CSAs and was wondering what the selection is like. i have a vegetable garden though and wonder if i'd just be getting more of the same? i am signed up to attend the event @ Yards on sunday too. Do they offer tours of the brewery while the event is happening? -arice

i realize this topic is water ice, but i need to know more about this fish cake/hot dog combo referenced by mrbigjas. is this a sandwich with both a fish cake and hot dog in one bun? where is johnny's? -arice

went to citron this week actually. living out here in ardmore, it gets tough when you want to try a new place, not many choices. citron was fine, not great. we stuck to their tapas menu and had a variety, some very good shrimp, some ok octopus and decent, but not great humus. oh, and good mussels. beers were expensive (atleast i thought 5.50 for a stella was a little pricey). i would stick with lourdas, the greek place in bryn mawr which is good and BYO. or, if you're in the mood for indian, main line jewel of india in ardmore is good too. there's also pretty good sushi at a little place in rosemont, but i can't recall the name. bella luna has closed. allison

the white dog runs a foundation called the fair food project. they publish a guide that features listings of local restaurants that focus on local and organic ingredients. it's an impressive list! it looks like they are getting ready to publish a new guide. more info can be found here: http://www.buylocalpa.org allison

i'd be interested to hear about people's korean favorites in the areas if anyone has anything to add. i agree with the rec of mainline jewel of india in ardmore. very good food (excellent dosas!), and in my opinion better than khajuraho. khajuraho is actually in ardmore, not haverford. thanks, arice

caviar assouline had just gotten some jubliees in when i stopped at lunch today. i am planning on getting some for friends. they took my name in order to reserve them when the box was unpacked. if you're interested in getting them, you might want to give them a call. they have locations at liberty place and reading terminal as well as somewhere in old city. allison

Jubilee! Jubilee! Jubilee! they sell them at caviar assouline too. allison

i'm finally working in center city (15th and market), cool! the lunch options in the area are vast and i'm hoping for some advice on places in the area that are on the inexpensive side... my definition would be $6.50 or less. i spent $10 on day 1 at the samson kabob house, very tasty, but too pricey for an everyday lunch. i found the king of falafel truck today and had a nice falafel for $3.50. of course, i'll be attempting to bring lunch a few days a week too. so, where can i go in the area for tasty options... sandwiches, salads, sushi, burritos, etc. thanks, arice

i think chloe fits the bill very well. it's byo. the room is small and softly lit. they have a nice variety of dishes. i had wonderful roasted chicken there a few months ago. the desserts were great too. the only "issue" is that they don't take reservations, but if you go early enough or perhaps later, you shouldn't have a problem getting seated and having a lovely meal. enjoy, allison

the patisserie (le petit mitron) is indeed delicious. everything looks beautiful and there's a large selection of items... totally yummy croissants, pain au chocolat, fruit tarts, pastry, home made chocolates and ice cream too. i only wish i still lived in narberth so i could walk there! it's definitely worth a trip to narberth to check out both places. allison

speaking of pocky cravings and for those of you on the phila suburbs... a great new japanese grocery opened in Narberth this past summer. it's called Maido and it's located on Narberth Ave, right up the street from the Narberth movie theater. it's quite large, has an excellent array of japanese snacks, frozen items, a sanrio section, noodles, rice and seaweed galore as well as a nice refrigerated section with produce and various packaged misos, seaweed salads, tofu, along with a number of things that are a little hard for a non-japanese speaking person to figure out. the owner and her mother prepare good homemade okonomiyaki (sp?)and yakisoba at their lunch counter. it's definitely worth a visit! their website is located here: http://www.narberthpa.com/Maido allison

thanks to everyone for these good brewpub suggestions... i imagine there are other, non-brewpub places that folks can recommend. i'm open to other suggestions if you have them! thanks much, allison

hi. i'm looking for suggestions for early evening weekday drinks with a group of friends. i'm hoping to find some place where we can sit and talk, not stand and scream. i'm open to old city, art museum and center city suggestions.... is there a larger brew pub in the vicinity of reading terminal? if so, does it fit into my requirements and can anyone recommend it? thanks, allison

dlc... thanks so much for the suggestions! i'll definitely have to get out for some tasty fried fish while i'm there, though too much of the fried stuff makes my belly hurt can't wait for some sunshine actually! philadelphia has been awfully cloudy lately. allison

pjs... thanks so much for the suggestions! mario's, leanh's and billy's tap room sound promising. i know that my mom has taken to norwood's, as it seems to be one of the few good restaurants near her house. i'll be visiting from philadelphia in a few weeks so hopefully we'll be able to try some of your recs. i recently read a short "36 hours" column in the ny times on st. augustine. are you familiar with o'steen's or the gypsy cab company? are either worth the trip to the st. augustine area? thanks again for your help. allison

hi, my mom recently moved to new smyrna beach from the orlando area. i'm looking for recs of good places to eat in the area. she hasn't been too lucky finding places that she'd opt to return to and instead prefers to buy fish from her local fish market to cook at home. i'll be visiting her soon and am hoping we can try some new places... we like most cuisines, prices don't matter at this point (if it's cheap and it's good, even better!). all recs are appreciated. thanks in advance for any assistance! allison

i agree with everything y'all are saying RE: the economics of menu selection for restaurant week. though i was disappointed that pasion! wouldn't consider including a veggie or fish dish, (even a smaller portion if needed) i understand why they are not. those people who would like to dine there during this week that are not meat eaters are just out of luck. we have been there once and have always wanted to go back... another time i suppose. we are going to alma de cuba instead... their restaurant week menu will be a bit more varied than pasion. allison

i called to make a reservation at pasion! and was disappointed to find out that the entree portion of the menu will be restricted to a choice of only chicken and skirt steak. my husband, a "fishatarian", won't be able to eat here with this "deal". just a note for everyone who may not think to ask about the menu before reserving for restaurant week. oh well, we'll try some place else. --allison
