  1. Mmm. Sounds delicious. May have to try going this weekend or on Friday.
  2. I've heard great things about this place. Has anyone been here? The original in Taiwan is supposed to be very popular. My friend raved about it. http://dintaifungusa.com/
  3. My mom always buys the Lees sandwiches, but I don't like the baguette style. I prefer the small loaf that you get at other places.
  4. I checked the Surfas website. That is exactly the kind of store Im looking for.
  5. Im looking for things such as duck liver, truffle oil, cheeses, caviar. Those sorts of things.
  6. Hi. I am aware of Pascals Epicerie. Are there any more in OC that sell gourmet food items? Also are there any close to downtown LA?
  7. Mmm. Sounds delicious. I have never been to Matsuhisa. How does this compare to his other restaurants in LA?
  8. Went to Darya at South Coast Plaza. Fantastic Persian food. Funny waiter. Had some filet mignon and lamb dish. My sister said it was juicier than it had been when she visited the place years ago. For dessert I had the Tiramisu cheese mouse. To. Die. For.
  9. The thing is that it was only the second or third times I've had pastrami, so I'm maybe you should take my word for it. By the way, it costs $6.50, I think.
  10. Okay, I hated their chilidog and chili tamales, but I thought the Pastrami dip sandwich was excellent. I'm not a pastrami person, so I want to hear what people think of this place.
  11. You guys need to give recommendations on LA's best strengths which are Asian cuisines and Mexican. By the way, what were restaurants did you try in OC that you liked?
  12. Haru Haru Sushi in OC. Z'Tejas in South Coast Plaza Le Diplomat in Brea Mall
  13. SF GATE's editors say veto the bill. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...EDG1O8EEH11.DTL
  14. thanks for the review. was it a busy opening?
  15. Are you sure it's owned by the same people at the Cali places? I think the names are similar, but possibly different ownership. I miss Green Papaya's pho, but this place has really good mi. I now have to find another good pho place that isn't a dive.
  16. Orange County has overall very good swim programs in schools, I guess. But yeah, Ive always noticed the good swimmers that OC has. I guess OC is a swim town. :) Not to mention SOOO many athletes from California!
  17. I have to defend my hometown. Yes SF and LA are far more exciting places to visit, as Orange County is not a world city and doesn't aspire to be. But it is a better place to live in terms of traffic, crime, schools, beaches, affordability and cleanliness then both SF and LA. (and frankly, every time a city has a random intense non-sports related hatred of another city, it smells of jealousy) As far as food, the ethnic cuisine that Orange County excels at is Vietnamese and of course Mexican. Neither LA or SF can compete in respect to Vietnamese. And there are good sushi places in Orange County. It's not comparable to sushi in LA, but what American city is? I will say that Taiko is not one of them. Had you asked me, I would have warned you to stay as far away from Taiko as possible. That is probably my least liked sushi restaurant. I swear Ive had better sushi at casinos.
  18. It's on Brookhurst. If you are coming from the south, exit 405 at Brookhurst, go North and it's on the left hand side. I'm pretty sure it is not the same restaurant as the french/vietnamese one. I think the one that you are refering to is the correct one. But if you go in, you will see that there is nothing French about the food., except was was influenced by France during the days of Indochine.
  19. Hi, newbie here, adding my contribution to the forum. Im very excited. I just found my restaurant that Ive decided to make as my go-to place for vietnamese soup. I just had the best 'pho' at a restaurant called Green Papaya *(not to be confused with the french/vietnamese restaurant of the same name) a few blocks on Brookhurst street north of the 405 exit/entrance. It is by far my best experience in Little Saigon. It was actually a mistake going in. I thought it was the french/vietnamese restaurant. I was hesitant to order the pho (the place was too decent looking to serve good pho) For those not in the know, the soup is fish/beef broth based with rice noodles and thin slices of brisket, beef, tripe. When they served it, even before tasting it, I could tell it was going to be good. The broth was much clearer than other restaurants and the aroma was much more fragrant and with hints of onion and ginger. You could tell it was the 9 hour preparation of the soup unlike other places. the broth tasted richer, not over-spiced. I forgot which one I had, but I think it was number 5 from the menu.
  20. I wonder if Rocco thought it was a foreign concept to hire a staff who had some type of experience. And not a very good idea to allow your staff to bitch about the customers on national tv. No matter how good the food is, I also wonder if after seeing the show, anyone would ever want to go to a restaurant in which the chef, a bunch of cameras, and a party of people are dancing and singing in an already very crowded restaurant. But, the prawns looked good!
