If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest a search on "Sarlat." Members who have already posted on the town, or the surrounding area, are less likely to posts again especially if their visit is not fresh in their minds. Posts the revive older threads are also more likely to spur additions than simple requests for information. It's suprising how an older discussion can stimulate new replies, especially from a member who wasn't online back then. It's been a long time since I've been in the region, but that should be a good time of year to visit.

Just back from that region. It's a drive but try to check out Le Vieux Logis in Tremolat. Had a fabulous lunch there, which for four with wine was 169 euros. Great value and they have one of the most beautiful garden dining rooms I have ever seen. And the amuse bouche was a creme brulee de foie gras, a dish that I usually DESPISE, but this one was outstanding. Simple, but absolutely delicious food, and superb service.

If you can, book a room and make a night of it. It's a Relais & Chateau hotel as well and rooms start at 159 euros. Apparently Henry Miller liked it so much, he stayed a month!

Yes, locals have told me that Henry Miller really loved Perigord......

you might try visiting the truffle eco-musee in sorges,

also what about visiting a foie gras farm? i always think its good to see the farmers raising the animals well, the more people who see this thing the better.

Will be in Sarlat and surrounding area in October....restaurant and/or market suggestions would be welcomed....

This is our favorite part of France! The countryside is really spectacular, low mountains with castles dotting the hills everywhere! Don't miss the caves with the 20,000 year old animal drawings. The Saturday market in Sarlat is terrific, and the town itself is a picture postcard of medieval architecture.

A unique eating experience in the Dordogne is the Fermes Auberges, where by regulations, all food served on the premises must be grown and raised there. Pricing is so reasonable as well. WE found ours while driving along, but you should also be able to get a list at the OT in Sarlat.

Here is one of the best online guides to Sarlat and environs dining, The Joker. Places are rated by from 1 to 4 "Jokers". Good little write-ups as well.

We just came back from the area. Indeed a very worthwhile destination. My recommendations are:

Rossignol

15 Rue Fenelon 24200 Sarlat La Caneda

Tél: 05 53 31 02 30

, Casual, a bit like eating in someone's dining/living room, at his home that is. Local Perigor food well prepared. Not far from the Market area in Sarlat. (Michelin gives it the coin sign)

Restaurant de L Esplanade

Rue Du Pont Carral 24250 Domme

Tél: 05 53 28 31 41 Fax: 05 53 28 49 92

Fine restaurant, we were there just when the sun set, (it took until 10 PM) and that is one of the he best sights in the Perigor-Dordonge area. Even if you do not go to eat have a look.

Le Centenaire

24620 Les Eyzies De Tayac

Tél: 05 53 06 68 68 Fax: 05 53 06 92 41

2* Michelin 18 GM – and quite creative, great cooking and service. And a very helpful and knowledgeable (English) Sommelier

Le Vieux Moulin

24620 Les Eyzies De Tayac

Tel: 05 53 06 94 33 Fax 05 53 06 98 06

Beautiful setting, in the middle of running water and decent food

Le Pont de L'Ouysse

46200 Lacave (not far from Rocamadur)

Tel: 05-65 37 87 04

We had a delightful lunch, sitting outside, enjoying the lovely garden and view, as well as the great food.

Enjoy,

Oh yes, I second the Pont de L'Ouysse. I had a very nice lunch there outside before heading to Rocamadour.

I think they have a Michelin star, no?

Indeed they do, also 17 GM.

A little west of Sarlat, but definitely worth a mention is Le Jardin D'Epicure - it's on the D702, just outside of St Cyprien. The number is 05 53 30 40 95. Had a fantastic dinner there about five years ago now, but from what I hear it's still going strong.
