Hi

A group of us are leaving for St. Barth on Fridays. Does anyone have any dining suggestions? Have any new restaurants popped up in the last 8 months or so. What about drinks, places to go after dinner with an atmosphere. We are all in out late twenties-early thirties.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Not sure about "new," but you MUST try:

Wall House - casual French dining just off Gustavia Harbor. Their coffee-glazed duck is fantastic.

Andy's Hideaway - super-casual (swimsuits and sandals) place tucked away behind a shopping center in St. Jean. Andy's a hoot too! Good for lunch.

Le Rivage - casual waterfront on one of the cul-de-sacs (forgot which one - the one near Guanahani). We used to bring our dog Carrie (yes, like the movie) there - it was her favorite. Sandwiches to entrees, lots of locals.

L'Esprit d'Saline - inland, off the salt marshes, exquisite "new" international fare.

Francois Plantation - a great "splurge." Classy Caribbean atmosphere, to-die-for wine list. Prices to match too, but worth every penny. Fine dining at its best.

I found the restaurants at Eden Rock (Tapas Bar and their Fine Dining room) over-rated; great settings but indifferent service and so-so food. Le Gaiac, at Le Toiny, was just a little bit better. For a great hotel dining room, L’hotel Saint Barth Isle de France is the place to go. (Well, Francois Plantaion is technically hotel dining too...)

Are you staying in a Villa? Don't discount getting a lunch at the Rotisserie in St. Jean, complete with cheeses, wines, etc.

Have a GREAT time and report back, OK?

Thanks GMI

We are staying in a villa and plan to take advantage of the great selection of cheeses and pates thay have in the great supermarches. I'm sure we will hit Mayas to go a couple of times also. I agree with the comments on Eden Rock, we went just after it reopend and were very disappointed...the view is incredible mind you.

We are a big group and would like a couple of suggestions where we can have great food, enjoy a lively atmosphere and not have to worry about bothering others if the noise level tends to increase as the night progresses. Andys would be perfect, I know, (food is always good) but we would also like a couple of places a bit more formal.

More formal: of the ones I mentioned, Esprit d'Saline, Wall House, and Le Rivage (which is right on the water). All can accommodate larger groups and are open air, which will help if/when things get a bit, shall we say, raucous!

In addition to La Rotisserie, a great place for take-out prepared food is for La Petite Colombe in L'Orient (right on the main road) and also long the road that leads to Colombier (or Corrossol? I can't remember). They also have wonderful roast chickens and side dishes along with fantastic breads and patisseries. Look in the refirgerators for chilled roses (we love Tavel) to have with your piq-niq.

I second the recommendation for Andy's Hideaway, and regret not going to the Wall House. Fresh lobster at La Langouste was wonderful, if pricey, as was the fresh grilled snapper at Pipiri Palace in Gustavia. Do Brazil, on Shell Beach, looks like a nice place to have a sunset drink.

Enjoy!!!!
