Alu Bukaras are dried sour plums - lets says Indian prunes.

Cherimoya

I make a chutney with them but I admit (head hanging in shame) it's a mix (Shan brand) - just dump the whole contents in water and cook for 20 minutes.

I also add it to biryanis and especially snack on them.

Hope this helps...

fresh plums are also called alu bukharas and not just the dried ones.

Yup I remember them as plums. During the plum season, my mother would make lots of plum jam and we used to have it in yogurt after meals like a dessert.
