I have to give props to Josh Friedland & The Food Section for pointing me toward a great round-up of "best kosher franks" in The Forward. Here's a link to the article and a the best-of list.

Not to spoil the surprise, but Forward food writer Matthew Goodman ranked Abeles & Heymann as the number-one frank, topping even Hebrew National.

Anyone know where to find these franks?

Thanks a lot, GG. I knew I hadn't seen them in the "usual suspects" (the kosher marts) -- apparently these are gourmet dogs!

I don't think of them as "gourmet dogs" exactly but note, with no small amount of pleasure, that they are available here in Atlanta as well! Thanks for asking, alacarte ..it opened up a new world of hotdog happiness!

They have them at Fairway, as noted on the NYC shopping thread in April. They've got the beef ones and the bison ones, as well as a few other products like salami.

We liked the Abeles and Heymann in our roundup as well, which encompassed Beef Kosher-style and Kosher dogs. Here is our review matrix:

We purchased ours at Shop-Rite, in Englewood NJ.

I just bought some in Fairway this afternoon (the power of suggestion). I wanted the bison franks but they didn't have any, so I got the beef franks. They're almost twice as much as Hebrew National. They did have bison salami, but I didn't get it. There were quite a few other things by this brand as well. I'd never heard of it before, so thanks.

In my opinion the Bison Salami is their best product.

I'm pretty sure that The Kosher Marketplace carries their products. I'll check the next time I'm there to save you a trip.
