My wife will have a long layover at the Dublin airport. Are there any interesting lunch (or shopping) options close to the airport?

Flexible on price and cuisine, but casual is preferred. Maybe something a 10 to 15 minute cab ride???

Thanks

Dublin city centre is aproximately a 30 minute cab ride from the Airport. I'm not aware of anything of interest closer. How much time will she have?

Cab fare into town isn't cheap (approx £20.00 if I remember correctly, but the express bus service is good and doesn't take much longer once you are on it).

There a quite a few threads about Dublin already on eGullet, a list of which you can find here.

Looks like the City Centre is the best option. I was trying to be lazy and research all of the possibilites in Dublin.

Andy, thank you for the link---a lot of wonderful threads to go through.

Malahide is a lovely seaside town much closer to the airport than the city centre. She could visit Malahide Castle or take a long walk along the strand overlooking the Irish Sea down towards Portmarnock. Although it's been ages since I've eaten out there, it's an upscale bedroom community and has plenty of dining options for a town its size.

Malahide is on the coast north of Dublin - so taking a taxi from the airport avoids city centre traffic.

"Bon Appetit" had a good reputation some years ago - classic slightly old fashioned cooking in a Georgian terraced house with sea view. It may be worth checking if somebody can give a more recent reference but it's probably the kind of place that will never change.

Swords is a boring town about 10 minutes from the airport - food in the Old Schoolhouse is much better than expected and the setting is really very pleasant.

Check opening hours/reservation by phone. You should eat reasonably well in either place but nothing really memorable. For that you would need to go somewhere like John Desmond's superb little restaurant on Heir Island - on the other hand, it's off the coast of West Cork and nearly half way to Boston, so perhaps on another visit.

All of the suggestions were greatly appreciated.

My wife ended up taking the bus into the city center and exploring. She stopped into a pub for lunch....but forgot the name of it.
