We are going to check out Cantina Marina this Friday. Has anyone been there, yet?

Recommendations on what we should try/avoid?

I finally went a week or so ago. It was an odd, eclectic crowd--think Gilligan's Island or some such sitcom--but the food was really, really tasty. Try the fish tacos or the BBQ shrimp.

will try. the folks here seem to think Maestroid and the Citron restaurant qualify as FoodTV 'best of $39(US)/day eats,' so will pass. Still waiting for the 'Washingtonian' crowd's endorsement before I go.

Tom Seitsema reviewed this place in the Post on Sunday. (Sorry, don't know how to add a link.) While anything with edible food would be an improvement in that area, the thought of wine being served in plastic cups is rather off-putting. What is up with that?

Agreed...the area sucks...the crumbling Hogate's, the mysterious Zanzibar...but it's worth the trek. The wine in plastic cups is part of the ambience, such as it is. I didn't mind it. The food more than made up for the ultra-casual atmosphere!!

Nice to know there's something halfway decent down in that neighborhood. I lived there for two years and had better meals at the Negril takeout than I ever had at Hogates, or Phillips, or whatever was down there at the time. We occasionally go to Arena Stage, so a dinner option other than the theater concessions is a plus.

Anyone been to this place lately?? I just noticed it in Food and Wine's latest writeup on DC restos (the same one that mentioned Nectar and Palena).

Cantina Marina

Food is a convenient way for ordinary people to experience extraordinary pleasure, to live it up a bit.
