I bought this yesterday in the Bronx ($16) at Mt. Carmel liquors. Its Dominican, 8 years old according to the label, and is produced by a distillery I am unfamiliar with.

Anyone try this one yet? I'm cracking it open tonight.

I see from Ed's site that he likes it and lists it as Premium grade and difficult to find....

We bought this on our trip to the Dominican last year. It's actually quite nice on the rocks. nothing else. Which is not how we usually drink rum. I'm no rum expert ( I usually drink it in eggnog  ), but I found this to be a very nice sipping drink. My husband who is a scotch expert, likens it to a single malt without the malt. Does that make sense?

I think we paid $8.00 for it in th DR.

Practice. Do it over. Get it right.

Mostly, I want people to be as happy eating my food as I am cooking it.

I tried some tonight and it reminds me a lot of traditional Cuban rums, like Matusalem Anejo Reserva. It has that wonderful cane sugar nectar sweetness to it.

I think I'm going to go through this bottle pretty quickly.

Macorix is another label made by the Brugal company who is most famous for their Brugal line of rums. Macorix is actually the name of the town where the distillery is located in the southeastern area of the Dominican Republic. There are a couple of other Macorix labels, I wasn't impressed with the 12 year old but do like the 8 year old. The other rums from Macorix aren't nearly as good but make good cheap mixers depending on where you buy them.
