Just had one of the best meals ever in California, at Root 246 in Solvang....a Bradley Ogden place. One of the highlights was local Morro Bay oysters with a watermelon/tequila ice, but there were little tiny lime bombs in the mix. That much acidity doesn't work with alginate, so I asked. Fingerling limes, one of which was produced for me by our waiter. A tiny little finger of a lime that does not juice so much as spew little lime bombs.

Google give no love or info. Anyone else know anything about them?

Yes, Stuart's right. I think you're talking about microcitrus aka finger limes. They come in lots of different colours and are native to Queensland. Apparently they are now being grown in California.

On menus I've only seen them as 'lime caviar' on oysters. I've never seen them at the shops, but that's probably a reflection of the suburb I live in!

For other Aussies, Kendall Farms and Daley's were the first two nurseries that came up when I did a search for plants. I wonder how far South they can be grown?

We have cultivated the Australian Fingerlime here in the U.S. We are the farm that provided the fingerlimes to Root 246 in Solvang and are very pleased to hear they were such a big hit. The photo I have attached is of the fruit from our trees. Click here to be directed to our fingerlimes.
