I'm vaguely plotting a trip to france post a weekend in brighton, was thinking of getting the eurotunnel over to calais on sunday aft/evening spending the night there then heading to honfleur and sa qa na on monday, then back the next day.

looking for 'somewhere' in the calais area, a decent brasserie for some steak frites would be perfect as would somewhere with rooms out of the way (within reason) all considered

any thoughts?

thanks

i have been to these two places a number of times

http://www.cotedargent.com/modulosite2/fic...132&id=319&fr=0

The Channel has a fantastic wine list excellent fish and great cheese. Service is efficient and friendly.

I know you asked for steak frites but i have ignored that.

At the cote d'argent you get a great view of the sea front, on one occasion we were booked on the 2pm ferry to go home but decided to go for lunch instead and watched the 2pm ferry from our restaurant table with some excellent turbot and a bottle of Chateau Fuisse. We got another 2pm ferry the next day!

I notice the A la carte menu is not on the cote d'argent website.

Until the exchange rate turned against the pound I used to visit Calais a few times a year on one day booze/ French food cruises.

A 3 or 4 course Prix Fixe lunch was always factored in. The most memorable meals within Calais were at the two restaurants David lists plus http://www.aquaraile.com/ which majors in seafood and has the advantage of an extensive channel view from its location at the top of a seafront residential tower block. On a fine day you can see Old Blighty  .

If I had to select my favourite it would be le Channel. IMO it wins on QPR and its extensive wine list.

thanks, unfortunately it seems that the combination of a decent place and open on a sunday night is too big an ask for calais so i think i'm going to hot foot it from calais to honfleur and eat twice at sa.qa.na instead
