Sogno is a "do go." This BYO storefront restaurant at 69 Broad St, Red Bank is a cut above the many Italian restaurants in NJ. We munched on bread, herbed butter, and olive oil while reading the menu. Once we ordered olives, cheese and a few slices of cured meat were brought to the table. For appetizers I had broccoli rabe with roasted garlic and grilled lemon which was listed as a "side." Lowell had a special of polenta with wild mushrooms which I also helped him to finish. The sauce was fantastic as were all the sauces on the dishes we had. For an entrée I had beef short ribs braised in Barolo wine over farro with a horseradish gremolata. Very good. Lowell had a special of monkfish with escarole. We managed to share one dessert. A fresh peach tart with vanilla ice cream was a perfect ending to this meal. Coffee was good. Do try this place. Phone: 732-747-6969. BTW--I checked my files and David Corcoran from The New York Times gave this restaurant an excellent on 5/5/02.

See, there are actually some good restaurants south of the Raritan River

All you have to do is come visit every so often. Sogno is very good, one of our favorites.

Off to the UK tomorrow. I have some 8218 for you. Denise and Tommy will give to you on Thursday.

When I looked in the refrigerator this AM there were biscotti that I didn't buy. Lowell said they were in the doggie bag we brought home. Nice touch.

Rosie,

Sogno is one of my favorite restaurants in the Red Bank area. I have been there several times over the past year and have not been disappointed.

Glad you enjoyed your experience there.

Were you at Sogno on a Saturday night? We dined there about a year ago and we loved the food. However, the noise level was so high that it made having a converstion among the four of us almost impossible. Luckily we had a late reservation and by the time we were halfway through our entrees the restuarant had emptied out quite a bit and we enjoyed the rest of the evening. I wonder if they did anything to improve the acoustics. Two gentlemen who left as we were being seated complained to the hostess/owner about the noise. She got quite defensive and basically said that after all they had spent to decorate the restuarant (it does look nice) it was not worth it to invest more money to deal with the noise level. I disagree as this is the only reason we haven't returned. I was hoping to hear from someone on this board that noise is no longer a problem. Otherwise, I'll just have to try a weekday night and hope for the best.

What bothers me about Sogno is that they nickel and dime you to death with sides and starch being sold a la carte. $5 for a potato with a $25 entree? You'd think for $25 they could drop a potato on the plate. $4 for sauteed spinach? Ill bet they charge you for tap water and ice at 25 cents a cube...
