Her New York Times obituary

From The I Hate to Cook Book: "Start cooking those noodles, first dropping a bouillon cube into the noodle water. Brown the garlic, onion and crumbled beef in the oil. Add the flour, salt, paprika and mushrooms, stir, and let it cook five minutes while you light a cigarette and stare sullenly at the sink."

An eGullet thread with some posts related to the book

Imagine all the food you have eaten in your life and consider that you are simply some of that food, rearranged.  -Max Tegmark, physicist

Gene Weingarten, writing in the Washington Post about online news stories and the accompanying readers' comments: "I basically like 'comments,' though they can seem a little jarring: spit-flecked rants that are appended to a product that at least tries for a measure of objectivity and dignity. It's as though when you order a sirloin steak, it comes with a side of maggots."

Thanks for posting this Alex -- I adore the I Hate to Cook Book, and pull it out at least once a year when I am looking for a good laugh (though probably not when I am looking for a good recipe!)

Thanks.

Funny, I was thinking about her the other day!

I didn't know she'd passed.

I got the book at a yard sale, thought it was adorable, and I admit to smoking and staring at the sink when I'm forced to cook, despite not being in the mood.

The obit in the NYT listed her death directly above the man who invented Rice a Roni ...

The juxtaposition of these two obits ....
